Chapter 1: Betrayal in the Dark
It was supposed to be a special evening. I had taken half a day off from work, planning to surprise my boyfriend, Jason, for his birthday. But when I arrived early at his apartment and looked through the window, I saw something that left me speechless.
Jason, my boyfriend of two years, was with Lily, my best friend from college. They were together in a way I never imagined—too intimate, too close. My heart sank. The pain was sharp and immediate, like a dagger to my chest.
These two people, the ones I trusted most, had betrayed me. I couldn’t believe it. My hands were shaking as I pulled out my phone and quietly filmed the scene. This wasn’t the life I had built. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be.
I left immediately, tears welling up in my eyes. I didn’t know what to do next, so I just sat in my car for hours, trying to process everything. But the more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I couldn’t just let this go. I needed answers.
The next evening, I called Lily over. She still didn’t know that I knew. She came over, all smiles and casual chatter, acting as though everything was normal. "Hey, what’s up?" she said, her voice too cheerful.
I didn’t waste time. I pulled out my phone, opened the video, and hit play. As soon as she saw it, her face turned pale. Her smile faded, and her eyes widened in shock.
"How do you have this?" she gasped. "Delete it! Delete it now!" She lunged for the phone, but I was faster.
"You think you can just erase what you did?" I said, my voice cold. "You betrayed me. Both of you."
Lily’s face shifted from panic to guilt. "I can explain. It wasn’t like that. Jason... he came to me first. I didn’t mean for it to happen."
"Did you or didn’t you sleep with him?" I demanded.
Lily’s facade cracked. "Yes, I did," she admitted, tears welling up in her eyes. "But it’s not what you think. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to hurt you. I made a huge mistake..."
I couldn’t stand to listen to her anymore. The anger was bubbling inside me, but I forced myself to stay calm. For a moment, part of me wanted to forgive her—the part of me that had once considered her family. But no. This was too much. I couldn’t let her off the hook so easily.
"I’ll deal with you later," I said, voice steely. "Now, get out."
She left, still begging for forgiveness, but it didn’t matter. I wasn’t ready to forgive her. I needed to face Jason and get the full story from him tonight.
So I decided to let her off for the time being. I planned to wait until Jason came back from working overtime late at night and then confront the two of them in person to find out how many things they had been hiding from me.
But what happened next was something I never expected.Lily suddenly appeared behind me. She hadn’t left. And before I could react, she lunged at me again, this time grabbing for my phone.
Everything happened in an instant. My heart raced. I didn’t know what to do. In the panic of the moment, I pushed her away with everything I had.
But Lily lost her balance. She stumbled backward, and before I could stop her, she fell.
