19 Ward The anger boiling in Ward’s chest is nothing compared to the guilt that zings through his veins. He had sent people away thinking it was the right thing to do. Why couldn’t Taytra see that? Of course, he felt the weight of those actions. But he couldn’t let that overtake him right now. Sometimes, being a soldier means shutting down your emotions until the job is done. “Look,” Ward says to Taytra as he moves his mount behind a tent, “we haven’t got much time. We need to decide the best way to defend ourselves.
