CHAPTER THREE: REMINISCENCE

*Fourteen years ago*

The air moves slow and steadily. Everywhere is quite in the woods except for birds twittering and chirping. Mother Squirrels taking a walk with their younger ones, the hummingbird feeding its young ones and the wood pecker perking up the tree.

In a little cottage far in the woods lived a family of three. A little girl with a long silky black hair, purple lips, paled skin and green eyes gets out of the cottage.

"Mama...those flowers are really pretty" little Lena said pointing some red tulips to her mom who was sitting in front of their little cottage

"Yeah... they are just as pretty as you my cute angel" her mom said smiling warmly at her.

"Can I pick one of the flowers" Little Lena said happily.

"Sure "her mom said with a warm smile

Little Lena ran into the bushes happily as she began to pluck the flowers

LATER THAT NIGHT

"I'm home.." a voice of a man echoed through the room from the entrance.

Upon hearing the voice.... little Lena ran as fast as she could to hug her dad.

"Papa!" Lena exclaimed as she hugged her father.

"Papa, look at these flowers I picked from the bushes" Little Lena said happily

" They are very gorgeous" her da said as he placed the flower in Lena's hair

"Dinner is ready...!!" mom shouted from the kitchen.

"Alright cutie, let's go and have our dinner. Ughh...I'm really hungry" Lena's dad said and carried Lena on his neck as they walked into the kitchen.

It's morning, the sun is now managing its way to rise up high above the sky. The woods are as quite as always with a cool breeze running through.

Earlier than usual, James , Lena's dad was already up and getting ready to depart for work. The little sounds he made woke Anna, Lena's mom up

"Don't you think It's too early to go for work?" she asked

"You're up already" he said ignoring her question

"Shouldn't you wait a little bit for the sun to rise a little high?" she asked again worried

" Nuh...don't worry about me. Besides, todays job is gonna be a big catch" he said with a bright smile on his face.

"Well..., just take care of yourself" Anna said still worried.

"Why that worried look ?" asked James as he noticed his wife being worried

"I...I...just don't feel right about you going out today..I feel.." she was talking when James interrupted

"Look into my eyes " he said and Anna did so

"Nothing is gonna happen to me. I promise" he said as he pecked his wife's forehead.

Anna just gave a faint smile and nodded.

Her husband's words moved her a little, making her relieved

Lena, who was still a kid at that time was fully asleep

James took off with some belongings and kissed his wife good bye.

He walked in a straight path along the woods and Anna continued staring at his back till he disappeared from her sight

A few minutes later, Lena woke up and found her mom seated quietly.

The first question that came out of her mouth was " Where is papa?"

Her mom looked at her bluntly for some time and smiled

"He is gone to make some big catch" she said

Although she smiled, but Lena sensed some uneasiness from her mom. But...as a little girl none of this was her concern so she just kept quiet

Later that night, Anna prepared dinner and sat down waiting for her husband to return. Their family always had dinner together so she kept waiting hoping that her husband would come home but he never came home

Upon giving up on waiting, she called Lena for dinner and they are alone

After the meal, both mother and daughter went to bed

It's midnight now and the night has grown darker. Only the sounds of owls and wolves howling can be heard in the woods

* bang * bang * bang *!!!

A loud banging was heard at their door. Anna got scared but gathered all her courage to ask whom it was

"It's me dear" a man said. Anna was relieved in hearing the voice cause it was her husband

She rushed to open the door but to her dismay. . . . her husband was wound all over his body

"Oh my!" she exclaimed

"Who did this to you" she asked sobbing

" Let's go inside" James said and they hurriedly went inside

He ordered Anna to turn off all the candles and she did so

"What going on?" she asked in terror

"Just keep quiet. There are some guys who are hunting me down. They are in the woods as we speak and might not be far from us" he whispered to Anna and she widened her eyes

Just as she was going to talk, they heard a some movement outside their cottage

" We need to hide Lena away" Anna said as she looked at her daughter who was sleeping peacefully

She walked to where Lena was but just then , the bad thugs opened their door wide

"Hahaha...I guess you're James' beloved family" said one of the thugs

The commotion woke Lena up . Just then, her dad came out of his hiding place

"Dude , this is between the both of us. Leave my family out of this" James said but the leader of the thug wasn't listening to him.

"Hey! little girl...come here!" the leader shouted at Lena but she didn't wince a bit

The environment was tense until the thugs got tired. They headed towards Anna and Lena but James tried to stop them

With all his strength , he was not a match for the thugs because he was outnumbered

It was such a b****y fight until they succeeded weakening James

They were on their way to Lena and her mom. Anna tried to protect Lena but was stabbed with a knife in the heart

"Mama!" Lena shouted then suddenly the unthinkable happened

The sky roared to Lena's voice. The wind blew harder and harder than before making the thugs terrified. Then, Lena's eye began to range with fire. "What's happening?" one of the thugs who was scared to the butt asked

As they kept staring at Lena in fright, one was caught on fire making the whole thug frightened

He burnt till he turned into ashes. Facing such horror, the other two began to ran away from their death

"Y'all are gonna die!!!" Lena shouted but hard the voice of a god

Just as she spoke, lightening followed and struck them down

Lena broke down and began to cry. At that moment, the whole wood burnt down. Using so much power, little Lena became weak and fainted

Lena woke up and found herself in a new environment. She looked everywhere and examined the whole room

Just then , a man walked in. He was a young guy who's in his late twenties.

Lena just stared at him blankly.

"Who are you?" she asked

"I'm Harrison . What about you?" he asked Lena

"I'm Miya" she said

"Hmm...so you remember your name" he asked

"Yes..." she said and held her head

"Where are you from" he asked her

"I can't remember anything. Only my head is throbbing in pain" she said

Harrison gave a huge grin upon hearing what had happened

"If she can't remember anything...then it would be better for my plan" Harrison thought to himself and smiled
