Day 2,390 A WEEK HAD GONE BY, and the others had not returned from the cave. Jacob had still not returned to the island. No one had. Or at least they hadn’t spotted anyone. Cain and Iris had stood guard by the cave and by the house at night. Iris continued making birds, fish, rodents, and insects as she tried to remember what had happened to her in the cave with no luck. To her, hardly any time had passed in the cave.
