Connor POV
It was a joy running alongside Beth's wolf on her birthday. Her wolf was gorgeous and spirited. I can't wait to run with her again, but first I am taking Beth away for the weekend.
It's finally Friday afternoon and we are leaving school after the last lesson of the day and the excitement is buzzing through me.
David joins us as Beth and I walk hand in hand to my car, where Crystal is waiting leaning against the door. She pushes away from the car as we approach, 'I've been waiting ages. Where have you been?'
'Sorry, sis. The teacher kept us back.' I told her, ‘But David is taking you home today.'
'He is?' Her eyes whipped towards David, 'You are?'
David wrapped his arm around Crystal's shoulders, 'Yes, I am. But first I'm taking you out for dinner.' He told her and started leading her away to his car. Beth and I watched them as David opened the car door for Crystal before going round to the driver’s side and getting in himself.
Beth leaned over and whispered in my ear, 'I think they like one another.'
'What?' I said in shock, whipping my head around to look at Beth.
Beth nods towards David's car and I turn back in time to see David lean over and kiss Crystal. Rage fills me and I take a step towards them but Beth's hand on my arm stops me.
'Could they be mates?’ Beth asked me.
Confusion furrows my brow as I watch David and Crystal drive off. 'But she is my baby sister, and he is my best friend. It’s not right!'
'It's fate. Now why has David taken Crystal home?' she asks, turning towards me with her hands on her hips.
I smiled at her, and opened the car door, 'get in the car, I have a surprise for you.'
As I settle into my seat and start the car, Beth asks, 'what surprise?'
'Just wait and see' I told her as I pulled out of the parking space and headed towards our lakeside retreat.
Beth POV
I sit nervously in the passenger seat as Connor drives us away from school. I was expecting to go home, do my homework and then have a make-out session or two with Connor, before going to bed. Our make-out sessions had been getting more and more intense these last few weeks, my body wanting more intimacy. I could tell that Connor had been struggling to restrain himself from going too far as well.
As we left the town, I stared out of the window at the trees lining the road. "I've never been out of town before." I murmured.
Connor's eyes leave the road for a moment as he stares at me, incredulously, 'What? Never?"
Shaking my head slightly, I replied. "No, never."
"What did you and your mum do when we went away, then?" He asked me.
"I helped mum do a deep clean of some of the rooms and we would watch films and eat popcorn in the evenings. I would also catch up with my school work and relax in the garden."
"You have never had a holiday?"
"No."
He reached over and took hold of my hand, bringing it to his lips and kissing it, before placing it in his lap. "Well, there is a first time for everything.'
We settled into a comfortable silence, Connor still holding my hand in his lap as I watched the trees go by. After about half an hour, Connor released my hand so that we could turn down a gravelled lane. The gravel crunches under the wheels for another fifteen minutes before the trees open up, revealing a two-story log cabin with a lake sparkling behind it. The sight is a wonder to behold.
"Where are we?" I asked, breaking the silence.
"This is our family getaway. It's used by all the ranking members, so they can have a holiday without being too far from the pack if an emergency arises." He tells me. "We have it for the weekend."
"It's beautiful." I told him as he pulled up in front of the building.
He jumps out of the car and runs round to open my door before I get a chance to open it. Holding out his hand for me to take, he helps me out of the car.
"We are staying the weekend?' I ask and he nods, releasing my hand, “but I don't have any clothes."
"Don't worry," he tells me, opening the boot and picking up two bags. "While you were out shopping with your father on your birthday, your mum packed a bag for you. It's been in my boot along with my bag, ready for this weekend."
"Ohh," I said as I followed him to the cabin door. He opens the door and motions for me to enter. I step over the threshold and am stunned by the rustic beauty of the entrance lobby.
Connor follows me inside, placing our bags just inside the door, before wrapping his arms around my waist from behind and nuzzling my neck. I can't help but lean back onto his chest, my head resting on his shoulder and giving him more access to my neck as he kisses and sucks on where I now know that he will mark me.
"Why don't you go and explore while I start dinner." He murmurs into my neck.
I twisted around in his arms, "You can cook?"
He smiles at me and pecks my lips, "Your mum has been teaching me."
I wrap my arms around his neck and press my body into him as I kiss him deeply. The thought that he learnt to cook for me made my heart swell.
Connor breaks the kiss and rests his forehead against mine, 'At this rate we won't be eating until morning." He jokes.
Pecking me on the lips again, he turns me round and swats my bottom, "Go and explore. I will come and find you when our dinner is in the oven."
"Fine." I pout over my shoulder at him as I headed towards a door to my left.
Connor blows me a kiss as he enters a room on the right, which I can see is the kitchen.
The room I enter is the lounge, which has a comfortable sofa in front of an open fireplace, kindling already laid out and ready to light. Pictures of the pack leader's families fill the walls, giving the room a homely feel.
Walking through another door, I entered an entertainment room, a large TV on one wall and different gaming consoles on the shelving underneath it. A row of conformable chairs face the screen, making it feel like a mini cinema.
A second door leads me back into the lobby and I decide to climb the stairs to explore the first floor. I open each door in turn to find bedrooms and bathrooms. One bedroom had Connor’s scent lingering inside, so I entered that room and looked around. It is almost a replica of Connor's room at home but in a smaller space and with only a single bed.
I walk to the window, picking up a pillow from the bed as I pass it. Holding the pillow to my nose, I breathed in Connor’s scent as I gazed out at the lake.
A shape reflected in the window makes me jump just as something sharp stings the side of my neck. My vision starts to blur, and my legs weaken. I try to scream, but my mouth doesn't cooperate. I feel myself falling, but someone grabs me before I hit the floor and I am laid down gently. I am vaguely aware of something being sprayed over my body before I am lifted up, then everything goes dark.
