Suddenly A Luna Chapter 15 Breakfast Gone Wrong

1245 Words
Brenna's POV It's quiet in the car with Addy, aside from thr radio playing a song I've never heard before, which is unusual for my best friend to say the least. Though as soon as we are off of pack land Addy turns the radio down and I know she'd about to jabber on endlessly. The weary look on her face, confirms it. Hmm....Is there something I am missing? *Maybe there's trouble in paradise already* Ignoring my wolf counterpart I wait for Addyson to speak. "We have SOOO much to catch up on, don't you think? We haven't had much time alone lately. I love that we've found our Mates but I really miss our girl time B." Addy says surprising me. "It hasn't been that long Addy, but I miss our girl time too, even your early morning calls. It seems odd that everything's changed in such a short time. I've been so caught up in Jax and trying to wrap my head around everything that's happened. Can you forgive me?" I ask her hopefully. She looks away from the road and laughs whole heartedly, making me wonder what the heck is so funny. Seeing you confused look she stops laughing and turns her eyes back to the empty road ahead. "What on earth would I have to forgive you for B? I've been glued to Damien since we met. So it's not your fault, or anyone's, except maybe our mates for being so damn amazing." She says wiggling her eyebrows at me suggestively. Now it's my turn to laugh. *You know she's right* Kyra chimes in again. I mentally roll my eyes at her. *Don't try to act like a prude now. I am a part of you, I know your thoughts and feelings. Did you forget that?* Kyra says knowingly. Without answering I push my wolf to the back of my mind and focus back on my best friend. I realize the car has stopped moving and she is staring at me as impatient as ever. Looking out the windshield, I realize we are at a retro style silver Diner and I smile gratefully to Addyson as my stomach grumbles loudly. She rolls her eyes at me, making me laugh as we get out of the car. Everytime Addy and I go out to eat we end up at this diner. It's been our favorite place for many years. The staff are always friendly, and the food is to die for. I look around the retro restaurant with its checkered floors, waitresses wearing rollerskates and head right for the jukebox. It's our tradition, whenever we come here, we take turns picking a song at random. It just happens to be my turn to do it since Addy picked a song the last time we were here. The song always ends up being one that hits home for us too, weird right? Without looking at the name of the song, I head back to Addyson who is sitting at the bar talking to a sweet older lady named Kathy. Sitting on a red bar stool next to Addy I smile at Kathy widely. If the bar wasn't between us and her, I just know she would be embracing both of us warmly. Everyone thinks she is just a waitress here, but she actually owns the place and she is the sweetest person I have ever known. She always knows what to say at any given moment and her hugs are welcoming and put you at ease instantly. "Well if it isn't Brenna Lynn, back again" Kathy says to me like she does everytime we come here. She pats my cheek, before setting a cup of coffee, just how I like it, in front of me. "How are you doin' darlin'?" Kathy says in that soothing voice of hers. "I am good Ms. Kathy. How are you? Are your grand babies here today?" I ask, smiling. Her eyes sparkle lovingly at the mention of them. "Not today, I'm afraid, they're at some sports event with their Pa. I'll never understand what anyone sees in those things, honestly. They would've loved to see you both. Anywho what can I get for you? The usual?" she asks, knowing I always order the same thing. "Of course Ms. Kathy, but can you double it this time please? I feel like I could eat a whole cow right now." She laughs and says to me "Addy Mae doubled up too. Must have something to do with the new men in your lives. I suppose that's a good thing though. I'll have your food up in a jiffy." Ms. Kathy says to us, smiling kindly before going to check on the other customers. Our food arrives and we both chow down. Devouring our pancakes, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns in no time. As we finish up, Ms. Kathy comes back over and clears our plates, before sitting down two pieces of her famous blueberry cobbler. We both dig in again. Of course, It's delicious as always, and gone in only a few minutes. As I finish up my second cup of coffee I get up to use the bathroom, but then I hear the bell above the door jingle. My body tenses at the newcomers scent. He smells of sweat, chewing tobacco, whiskey and death. I remember his scent from my mom's accident. It couldn't really be him though could it? When our eyes meet I know it's him. He's the man that killed my mother, and if looks could kill, I'd already be dead. I should be the one giving him that look. Why is he looking at me that way? He looks just as evil as I remember. Who the hell is this guy? My body starts to shake as my blood boils with anger. Ms. Kathy hurries over to us. She must have seen my reaction to this strange, hateful man. She pulls Addyson close, to whisper in her ear quietly yet urgently "GET OUT OF HERE NOW, GO OUT THE BACK, GRAB BRENNA AND RUN FOR THE CAR". "B-b-but w-we still have to pay you" I stutter just as quietly. "It's on the house. You're in danger of revealing yourself to the wrong person, now go. I will distract him" she says reassuringly. "What? Who is he, other then a killer? and how do you know what I am?" I whisper frantically, shocked at her words. "Sweet child, there's no time for this, you must go, now, I'll be fine and I will tell you everything later." Addyson grabs my hand and we bolt through the kitchen to the back door and get in her car. Looking inside the windows, as Addy backs the car up, I see Ms. Kathy pouring the man a coffee. I watch him until Addy puts the car in drive and speeds off. Heading back the way we came, back to the pack house and our mates loving arms. What the hell was that about? I have so many questions running through my mind. How did Ms. Kathy know about me, about us? Who the hell is that guy, aside from what I already know about how he killed my mother and what the hell was he doing in the diner looking ready to kill again? Is he after me, if so why? I thought my mom's death was just an accident, but now I'm not so sure.
