Coming back
I stepped off the plane, looking around at the familiar airport I'd seen a hundred times before. Cunningham, I swore I'd never come. Tiny small town, small-minded people, and never anything to do. I swore to myself that once I got out , I'd be out for good, but here I am staring at the same old airport. I swore I'd never come back, too.
As I stand here looking around, I wonder if anything in this small-minded town has changed. I navigate my way through the old airport, and I step outside. I see them. They've run this town for as long as I can remember. I can remember being small and seeing them riding down the road on their giant bikes, rumbling by, and being awestruck.
They're leather clad backs rushing by as we stood on the sidewalk. Jameson, my best friend, since we started daycare, swore one day he'd be the leader one day, and from the looks of it, he was right. As they rumble by, I look at the front of the burley pack of bikmers, and there he is. leather clad, and way more handsome than I remember him being five years ago. Just as I look at him, he makes eye contact with me, and every reason I had for staying away vanishes, and in that second I wonder if he remembers all the time we spent together through the years?
