The Starborn Heir
Chapter 1: The Silver Mark
Aurelia had always felt the weight of the star’s light within her. It pulsed beneath her skin, a quiet hum in her bones, as if the heavens themselves had placed something ancient inside her. But never had it felt as heavy as when the knights knelt before her, their silver-clad forms gleaming under the setting sun.
"You are the lost heir of Elarion," the knight repeated, his golden hair tousled by the wind. "And the king is dying. The throne must not fall into the hands of the Shadow Prince."
Aurelia’s heart pounded. She wanted to deny it, to turn away, but deep down, she knew the truth. The dreams, the whispers, the strange energy coursing through her veins—this was why.
"I don’t even know how to fight," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I’ve never stepped foot inside a palace. How am I supposed to stop this—this Shadow Prince?"
The knight, who introduced himself as Cassian Valen, Captain of the King’s Guard, exchanged a glance with his soldiers. "Because you are not just a princess, Aurelia. You are Starborn. And your power is the only thing strong enough to oppose him."
The word Starborn sent a chill down her spine. She had heard stories of the Starborn—beings blessed by the cosmos, chosen by the stars to rule. But those were only myths… weren’t they?
"Then why was I abandoned?" she asked.
Cassian hesitated. "That… we do not know. The king refused to speak of it. But he sent us to find you before it was too late."
Too late. The words rang in her head. Something was coming. Something dark.
The villagers watched in hushed silence, their faces filled with worry. Aurelia turned to her father—the only father she had ever known. Joren, the blacksmith, looked at her with sorrow in his eyes.
"You have always been special, Aurelia," he said. "I knew this day would come. And though I wish I could keep you here, I know the stars have greater plans for you."
Tears burned at the edges of her eyes. She wanted to stay. But she also knew she couldn’t.
She took a deep breath. "What must I do?"
Cassian’s expression softened. "We must ride for the capital at once. But be warned, Aurelia—the Shadow Prince has already begun his conquest. He will not let you take the throne without a fight."
She tightened her grip on the silver pendant around her neck—the only thing she had left of her past.
"Then let him come."
And with that, the lost heir of Elarion took her first step toward destiny.
