Chapter Twenty-Nine Now what? She paced the floor in her kitchen after calling Chris. It had gone to voicemail yet again, but this time his mailbox had been full. So he wasn’t even checking his messages. That had her heart sinking a little more at the thought that Henry could in any way be right about Chris. He’d promised to call her back this morning, and here it was, after nine in the evening. The sun had set. “Well, maybe you’re just not cut out for this, Ivy,” she said to herself. “He had a change of heart. You weren’t in too deep, so you just need to pull on your big-girl pants, get up tomorrow and go to work, and write this off as…” She stopped talking. The pep talk only made the giant ache worse. So she pulled open the freezer and spotted a cold carton of double chocolate fudge.
