Chapter Twenty His truck was gone by the time she’d showered and pulled on a pair of jeans and a loose cotton shirt. She’d stalled long enough, and she walked over to her parents’ house, feeling emptiness and loss as she strode up the steps. “Hey!” She jumped, hearing Scarlett’s voice and seeing her in the wicker chair in the corner. “You scared me,” she said, her hand on the screen door. “Daddy’s in the house with Mama. They’re waiting for you. You worried everyone, you know.” Ivy’s hand was shaking, and she gripped it. She hadn’t thought to phone home. She should have, but she was how old? “I was fine. Just had too much wine, so I didn’t drive.” Scarlett wasn’t smiling, and it wasn’t lost on Ivy that she was wearing more clothes today than she normally did, blue jeans and a T-shirt
