Chapter Six
Chris was at the end of the bar, coffee in hand, when he noticed Ivy sitting with the doctor from the hospital, laughing, chatting, and eating a burger. He’d never seen a woman dig in and enjoy a burger the way she did, but he could see the newly dating awkwardness and unease that oozed between the couple. Then he wondered, were they dating or was this just two colleagues having a drink and a bite? He’d bet his money on a date, first or second.
“Do you want another coffee or something else?” the bartender asked. The man was tall, large, and older, with an earring in one ear and shoulders that said he’d tossed out a drunk or two. He held up the steaming carafe of coffee.
