Zoe's POV:
Zach bought me dinner. I don't know why he did it, but it was good. I never expected him to do something like that. Some people change. He might be one of them. As good as it feels, I can't keep talking with him. I want to trust him, but something is stopping me. Let's say that I don't want to say much about my life. We don't know each other. I can't let everyone know about the condition of my mom. Speaking of her, she is not getting better. I haven't done anything for her. I went to talk with one therapist. Of course, I had signed up for an hour. The woman said she would like to speak to my mom and see if she can do something. There is only one problem. Mom will never go outside. I told her this. The woman won't come home. That way is better. I asked my grandparents for help. Grandpa used some tricks on my mom from when she was a kid. I didn't expect it to work. I can try to find my dad, but I don't believe he will want to talk with her. I wish I knew what had happened between them. Everything looked fine a few years ago. Then, it seems like something broke. I don't expect to find the truth soon. My focus should be on my mom. I feel bad leaving her alone. I'm afraid she might do something terrible to herself. I hope that my mom won't try to hurt herself.
Last night, I decided to sleep with my mom. I wanted to spend some time with her. She doesn't care about this, but it was good. I mean, at least for me. I have no idea who can talk with her. I feel like my mom is a lost case. It hurts me to say this, but it's true. I have no idea what else to say. The worst thing is that it started affecting my grades. One day, I went to study at my grandparent's house. It was the same. It's like I wasted my time.
Currently, I'm in school. The teacher is talking, but my mind is somewhere else. I received a message from Zach. Somehow, he found me on social media. I don't know if he cares for real or if it's a pretend. I will trust him. As I have told him, I have nothing to lose. Things can't get worse. I have already hit the bottom. I used to be a different person, but that was a long time ago. After the class, I went to the hall. I don't feel in the mood today. It's not something new.
- Hey, Zoe.
- Hey, Alice. Do you need something?
- No, I only wanted to check on you.
- Thanks.
- How are you? Do you feel better?
- I wasn't worse.
- Yes, but you don't look well. What is going on?
- I prefer to keep some things only for myself.
- We can help you. Friends always do this.
- I never said we were friends.
- Yes, but.
- Zoe, can we talk? - miss Paterson asked
- Sure.
- I'll leave you. - Alice said
- Did I do something?
- How are you?
- I'm fine, thanks.
- Are you sure? I and the other teachers have noticed the change in your grades.
- So?
- Do you want us to talk about something? We know you are a good student.
- No offense, but my problems have nothing to do with you.
- I tried to call your mom, but she didn't pick up.
- She is busy.
- Can I talk with someone else?
- No.
- Why?
- My parents are busy with their work.
- Grandparents?
- Dead.
- All of them?
- It's not your business to ask about my relatives.
- Zoe, we are worried for you.
- No one made you do it. You can leave now.
- As your teacher, my job is to ensure you are ok. I will find a way to speak with someone close to you.
- Good luck with that. I bet you won't find anyone.
- I don't know what you think about me, but I won't give up on you. I mean, you were my best student.
- This is what you care about. My grades. It doesn't matter if I'm well or not.
- It's not what I meant.
- This is how it sounded to me.
- Many people get stressed out. You can take a break.
- Won't you give up? You are wasting your time with me.
- I'm not doing it.
- I suggest you take care of your kids, not of me.
- Zoe.
- Leave me alone. Please. - I said and left for my next class
A teacher's job is to teach us, not to go into our personal lives. I avoided people until the rest of the school day. Otherwise, everyone will ask me questions. It doesn't matter if my grades are low or not. Well, without me, the school won't perform that well. Users. They don't care about me at all. Sadly, no one does. That is except for my grandparents. I went to the grocery store on the way home. I can get my mom decent food. I don't think she has been eating much. I went home and saw her in the living room. At least she is not on the bed. That's a good sign.
- Hey, mom. I got you something. Will you eat?
- Not, now. Thanks.
- What's wrong? Why are you upset? Did something happen while I was at school?
- Why don't you stay with your grandparents? I can't take care of you.
- Of course, you can. Mom, I'm not leaving you. It doesn't matter if you want me here or not.
- I want you, but things won't get better.
- Yes, they will. All you need is more time. Why don't we go out today?
- I can't go outside looking like this.
- I can help you. How about shopping?
- With what? I don't have money.
- No one said that we would buy something.
- Isn't this what shopping means?
- We can go and look for things. What do you say?
- I appreciate it, but no. I don't want to be outside.
- Mom, you can't stay inside all day. I want to do something with you.
- I'm not in the mood for that.
- You never are. Please. Whatever it is.
- Don't you have homework to do?
- Yes, I do. I have to raise my grades.
- Why? Are you failing?
- No, but they are not straight A's.
- Why do you care? I didn't have high grades, but I still had a job.
- It's not about this. Teachers expect it from me.
- Tell them they want too much. - my mom said, and I laughed
I love my mom. She might be many things, but she always has my back. I stayed with her the whole afternoon. She tried to help me with my homework. It was a mess, but I let her enjoy it. For some reason, she got interested in my history textbook. I don't know what is happening with her today, but she is in a good mood. I wonder how long she can keep it. I would love it if it stays for longer.
- Now, I want you to tell me something.
- What is it?
- How are you and your boyfriend?
- What? I don't have one.
- Are you sure?
- Positive. I would remember if I had one.
- You don't go out with anyone.
- No, I don't. Why are you asking?
- Because I want to know the guy who will break your heart.
- Mom! Can you stop going back to this? It's over. He left. Forget it and move on.
- But I loved him.
- Are you sure? If you did, you could've changed something.
- Like what?
- I don't know. Dad didn't leave because of me.
- The fault is not mine!
- It's not mine either.
- If you want to stay with him, go and find him.
- I didn't say that. Can you listen to me for once?
- I always do it.
- No, you don't. Forget it. I will be out for dinner.
- Will you eat with your grandparents?
- No. I'll be alone.
- Call someone to pick you up. Don't come home alone.
- I can take care of myself. Also, I have no one to call.
- Don't you have friends? That's sad.
- Don't you have a husband? That's sad.
- Hey! Don't talk like that to me, young lady!
- Look who got mad.
- Leave the house immediately.
- With pleasure. I don't want to stay here.
- Good for you. I won't take care of you.
- I don't expect you to do it.
I was sure something would go wrong. There is no way my mom will be so good. I took some money and went out. I hide them from her. Otherwise, she will use them for wine. I walked around. Mom killed my appetite. I decided to check on Zach. He might want to have dinner with me. He agreed without complaining. If he starts trying on me, I will go somewhere else. I'm not in the mood for his games or anything else. Both of us went to eat.
- I'm surprised to receive an invitation from you.
- I had no one else to call.
- Well, I'm honored.
- Good.
- Hey, are you ok? You don't look much in the mood.
- I'm sorry. I had a bad day.
- Will you share? I won't judge you.
- I argued with my mom. I don't want to talk about it.
- Can I make you feel better?
- I don't think so, but you can try.
- Why hot girls are called hot?
- Why?
- Their makeup is so ugly that it feels the same when you eat hot wings.
- Where is the funny part? - I asked, chuckling
- There isn't, but I made you smile.
- Fine. Do you have another one?
- Let me think. Why are cows black and white?
- Why?
- Because if they are green, they will eat themselves.
- You are not funny.
- But you are laughing.
- Because this is stupid. Don't you have a better one?
- I'm not a comedian.
- You can think about this.
- For sure. What do you want us to do after dinner?
- I don't know.
- I can take you home.
- Thanks, but I don't want to go yet. Maybe you know a place.
- A place for what?
- Where do you go with your friends?
- This is something for us.
- Then what is for us?
- I have something in mind, but you have to trust me on this one.
- I trust you.
- Really?
- Yes. It can't get worse. I have nothing to lose.
- I will use the opportunity to show you what my parties look like.
- Will you finally have one?
- I don't know. My parents are stubborn.
- Be happy that you have them.
- Are you parents? I mean. Here.
- They are not dead if this is what you mean.
- I'm sorry. I didn't want it to sound this way.
- It's ok.
Zach and I kept talking. It's good that he is listening to me. I won't tell him everything yet, but it's good to know you can speak to someone about it. This is all I have now. I went home around midnight. He wanted to take me home. I didn't make him do it, but I appreciate it. I wish I had someone close to me to share all this. I said I trusted him. I'm not sure how much I can tell him. When I went home, my mom was asleep. Grandma has left me a note. She was with her for dinner. At least she wasn't alone. I'm sure my mom has told her everything. I hope that this will be over.
