Amelia pinched herself to know if she was alive. This only happens in movies. She felt as if she was going to pass out again, as she tried to wrap her head around what was going on. She hoped that this wasn't a ploy to kidnap her.
Another thought popped into her head. If it was true, why then did her parents leave her?
According to Mrs Kevin, she resembled her mother so much. She tried to stand, but her legs felt like jelly and she collapsed on the bed.
The door swung open and a maid walked in. Her eyes widened at Amelia's state.
"Oh, no. I'm so sorry." The maid apologized leaving Amelia confused.
"You didn't wrong me." She replied. In fact, she was to be blamed. Mrs. Kevin told her to press that button if she needed anything.
" You are our... I can not see you hurt."
"Our what?" Amelia replied.
The maid wrung her hands behind her back and bowed her head, she had spoken too much.
" I'm sorry, it's not my place to tell." She replied solemnly.
Now, Amelia was more confused.
" Whose place is it?" She inquired.
The maid's eyes snapped up, and she wore a pleading look. " Please forget that I said anything. Do you need anything else, ma'am?" She asked.
Something was fishy here.
Mrs. Kevin seemed like a nice person earlier. Were her parents also tyrants like Xavier? She wondered as she tried to figure out what put that alarmed look on the maid's face.
" Yes, please assist me up. I need to pee."
Without hesitation, the maid rushed to her side and placed an arm beneath Amelia's shoulder.
"s**t!" Amelia hissed in pain, as her right arm protested violently against the contact. She fell on the bed again.
" I'm so sorry! I didn't know. Please forgive me!" The maid cried.
The pain subsided gradually and Amelia exhaled slowly. " It's fine. You didn't know." She waved her apology aside.
The maid still fidgeting, and Amelia shook her head. " Seriously, it's fine. Helo me up with this arm." She stretched her left.
" Okay, ma'am."
Amelia felt her life changing. She was the one who waited on others. Having someone wait on her was beyond her wildest imagination.
When they arrived at the bathroom, she stopped. " What is your name?" She asked.
" Mandy."
A nice name, She thought. It didn't seem right to keep calling the girl a maid. A name was a sense of identity.
" My name is Amelia."
" Princess Amelia," Mandy repeated.
Amelia's brief rose in curiosity.
"Princess?" Was she a daughter of royalty?
" No, just call me Amelia." She replied.
" Do you need assistance in there?" She asked.
Amelia gave her a small smile. " I can manage." She replied and entered into the bathroom.
She quickly did her business and turned on the faucet in the sink, and washed her face.
She stared into the mirror above and was shocked at her reflection. Her bruised wounds were fading, the only reminder of yesterday's incident was the weakness she felt, and the pain in her arm. She remembered falling so hard on the arm, hence the stubborn pain.
A knock sounded on the door interrupting her thought process. Turning off the faucet, she called. " Yes?"
" It's me, Mandy. I don't know if you are up for a shower right now."
" I could do that."
" Please come outside, ma'am," Mandy called, and she walked out.
A basket of towels and toiletries was at the foot of the door.
" Thank you."
" It's a pleasure, ma'am." Mandy bowed.
She brushed her teeth, before proceeding to take a bath. The weakness had also begun to subside.
The room was empty when she came out of the bathroom, the shower was rejuvenating.
" Mandy?" She called, but there was no response.
Her gaze fell on a clean pair of dark blue jeans lying on the bed, and a cute pink top with a bra. The dressing table was arranged with some pricey beauty products that only the Alphas used.
Her mouth fell open when she saw their price tags. Oh my god! How can I repay these people? It was more expensive than her life.
Afraid to use any of these products, she donned her new outfit and combed her hair.
The door opened and she turned, it was Mandy carrying a tray containing a plate of
food. The aroma filled the air.
" I went to get some food. I hope you like pasta?" She asked.
" I do," Amelia replied. In fact, it was her best meal.
Mandy's eyes rested on the unopened cream bottle, " Do you not like these products ma'am? I could get you another brand."
Amelia shook her head, and muttered. " It's expensive."
Mandy gave her a blank look betraying the amusement she felt inside. Amelia did not know what she was worth.
" I assure you, it's nothing. You can use them. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask." She replied.
" I'll bear that in mind," Amelia said, knowing fully well that she wasn't going to.
Mandy didn't believe her either, but she kept on smiling.
" If that will be all ma'am, I am a bell away," Mandy replied and moved towards the door.
" Thank you."
Mandy smiled, " You're welcome." She replied.
Amelia dug into her meal and moaned in delight as the flavors exploded on her tongue. This was very tasty. The pasta was not overcooked and it was healthy. Back at Sky Prowler's pack, she was only allowed to eat leftovers. What a great suffering!
Her thoughts went downhill as she started to remember all the suffering and went through.
"No, I won't think of him" She muttered and sucked in the tears that threatened to escape her lids.
"I won't cry because of him." She said.
" What are you doing, ma'am?" Mandy asked with eyes widened in horror.
Amelia looked at herself, " I'm taking the plates to the kitchen. Is that prohibited here?" She asked. After eating, she was bored. She couldn't leave the plates in the room. Her omega nature wouldn't allow that.
Mandy shook her head, " You should have called me." She scolded, then bowed her head again, " Please call me next time." Mandy replied.
" Okay?" Amelia replied warily. " I'm not being held prisoner right?"
Mandy looked at her in shock, " Of course not." She replied.
" So, why are you fussing about me taking the plates to the kitchen?" She asked further.
" I'm sorry, I overreacted. It's just that I am not in the best position to explain some things."
Amelia was frustrated, the same response every damn time, " Who is?" She queried.
" You can leave, I'll take it from here." A familiar voice spoke causing Amelia to turn. Mrs Kevin stood at the doorway with her hands behind her back. She looked every inch powerful. She was indeed a warrior.
" Yes, ma'am," Mandy replied, took the plates from Amelia, and disappeared into the kitchen.
" Good morning, Mrs. Kevin." Amelia greeted, bowing her head slightly.
" Good morning, dear." Mrs. Kevin replied tenderly. She also couldn't get over the euphoria that her daughter had returned in the flesh.
An awkward silence stretched on, and Amelia spoke.
" Thanks for taking me in, and caring for me. I saw everything Mandy brought in, and I want to say a very big..."
Mrs Kevin raised a hand, and smiled,
" It's okay, dear. How are you feeling?"
" A bit weak, but good generally." She replied.
" A doctor will come for a checkup soon." Mrs Kevin replied. Her gaze was still fixated on her.
" We are so glad to have you back." She gushed unable to quench her excitement.
" I don't understand."
Mrs Kevin smiled, " I told you yesterday that you belong here."
Yes she remembered, but..." How do I belong here?" Amelia asked.
" Your mother was originally from this pack."
" Is she dead?"
The door opened and a female wolf entered, her aura was very strong. It almost suffocated Amelia.
" Beta, please can I have two minutes of your time?" She spoke.
They went quiet for some seconds, and she knew that they were communicating through the mind-link.
" We will continue this conversation later. Excuse me." Mrs. Kevin said and walked away.
The kitchen door opened and Mandy walked out.
" Will you be needing anything, ma'am? She asked.
" I want to stretch my legs. Can I take a stroll?"
Mandy's eyes glazed. " Yes."
" Let me get you a suitable footwear."
Amelia noticed a certain strength from Mandy and it made her wonder if she was truly a maid. In her eyes, she looked more like a warrior.
" Please change into this." She handed over a running shoe, taking the other slip-on.
" Let's go." She said and they walked downstairs together.
When the double entrance door opened, Amelia was surprised to see the very large expanse of grassland. It was well-trimmed, and the scent was comforting.
Female warriors stood outside the house, and they all turned her way when she came out.
" Let's go." Mandy nudged her forward when she noticed her shyness.
" Do you want to take a stroll around? I can take you to the training ground." Mandy's eyes crinkled excitedly.
" Okay."
" It's okay," Cassie spoke when she saw Mrs. Kevin stare at Amelia with sadness in her eyes.
" She has lost time."
" She's here now, that's what matters," Cassie replied.
" I can see the questions in her gaze, she feels abandoned." She repeated.
" She will understand with time. Let her ease into it gradually. I'm sure that she will understand."
They watched Mandy point at the empty training ground.
" I can feel her."
" Yes."
" This is where all the wolves gather every morning to train. I believe you will be joining us soon, ma'am?" Mandy asked.
Aren't we getting ahead of ourselves? Amelia thought. She had just gotten here.
Mandy saw the hesitant look on her face and figured out the problem. She didn't want to train. " You don't want to train, ma'am?"
Amelia turned, " Firstly, I'd prefer you call me Amelia. I am just a stranger here, I just arrived."
" You are not a stranger. You are part of us. We stay fit because we train every day. A pack of predominantly female wolves is very rare to come by." Mandy explained.
" You refuse to tell me who my parents are. Yet, you keep saying that I am not a stranger. How do I know that you are not keeping me as a hostage here?"
Mandy was perplexed. " What?" She asked.
" Yeah?"
" I- It's not in my place to speak about such matters." Mandy insisted.
" Who exactly are you?"
" Ma?"
" You don't look like a maid," Amelia replied, trying to satisfy her curiosity.
Seeing that she couldn't lie, spoke, " I not a maid." She replied.
" I knew it."
" So, what are you?"
" A wolf?" Mandy replied.
Amelia's countenance fell sad as she remembered her plight of being wolfless.
" Did I say anything wrong?" Mandy asked.
" You are a warrior," Amelia replied.
Mandy nodded solemnly.
" Why are you looking after me?"
" You are important to us." Mandy simply replied.
Where were they since when she was being bullied? All of this wasn't making sense to her.
" Can we move on?"
" This is the children's quarters." Mandy pointed to a small building, painted bright yellow.
" It's small because we do not have many males here. Hence, the limited reproduction." Mandy explained again.
" This is surprising," Amelia muttered. All the other packs she had been in, had a lot of pups.
" We are special."
" Indeed." Amelia agreed.
" Do you want to go in there?"
Amelia wrinkled her nose, " No, maybe another time."
The thought of knowing that she might never have hers was enough torture. For she was a weak omega, no male would love her. In fact, her mate rejected her. Seeing them was only going to bring back the torrent of bottled-up emotions.
" Are you okay?"
" Yes." Amelia wore a fake smile that did little to convince Mandy.
" Let's go," Amelia instructed and set a foot forward.
