Chapter 3 – Two Different Worlds
The warm Saturday morning sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Alex Anderson's luxurious penthouse overlooking Manhattan. For once, the powerful CEO was not buried under endless contracts or attending another board meeting. It was one of the few weekends he had promised to spend with the woman he loved.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee drifted from the kitchen.
Alex adjusted the sleeves of his black shirt as he walked downstairs. The sound of soft humming reached his ears before he smiled unconsciously.
Kalva.
She stood in the kitchen wearing one of his oversized white shirts that reached the middle of her thighs, her long hair tied into a loose ponytail as she prepared breakfast.
When she noticed him standing at the entrance, she smiled brightly.
"Good morning, sleepyhead."
Alex folded his arms and leaned against the door.
"I've been awake for almost an hour."
"Then why didn't you wake me?"
"I wanted you to rest."
Kalva walked over and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"You always take care of me."
Alex gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"That's because you're my responsibility."
She pouted playfully.
"Only your responsibility?"
Alex chuckled.
"No."
He kissed her forehead.
"You're my home."
Kalva's cheeks turned pink.
"You've become so romantic."
"I'm only romantic with one woman."
"And who is that?"
He looked straight into her eyes.
"You."
Kalva smiled before resting her head against his chest.
"I love you, Alex."
"I love you too."
For several peaceful moments, neither of them spoke.
The silence between them was comfortable, the kind shared by two people who knew each other better than anyone else.
Later that morning, the couple drove through the city in Alex's black Rolls-Royce.
Their destination was a luxury shopping mall.
As soon as they entered, whispers filled the air.
"Isn't that Alex Anderson?"
"The billionaire CEO?"
"And the woman beside him must be his girlfriend."
"They look perfect together."
Kalva held Alex's arm proudly.
She had heard those comments many times before, but they still made her smile.
Inside an exclusive jewelry boutique, Alex stopped before a glass display.
"Do you like any of these?"
Kalva laughed.
"Alex, you already spoil me too much."
"I asked if you like any."
She pointed at a delicate diamond necklace.
"It's beautiful... but it's probably too expensive."
Alex turned to the saleswoman.
"We'll take it."
Kalva's eyes widened.
"Alex!"
He simply smiled.
"If it makes you happy, then it's worth every dollar."
The saleswoman carefully packed the necklace while secretly admiring the couple.
Very few people had ever seen the cold billionaire look at someone with such tenderness.
Outside the mall, Kelvin was already waiting beside his sports car.
"There you two are!" he called with a grin.
Kalva laughed.
"Kelvin!"
The three friends sat together at a nearby café.
Kelvin shook his head dramatically.
"I swear, every time I see you two together, I feel like the third wheel."
Kalva laughed so hard that she nearly spilled her drink.
Alex smirked.
"Maybe you should find someone."
"I'm trying."
Kelvin sighed dramatically.
"But women keep choosing my money instead of me."
Alex raised an eyebrow.
"Now you know how difficult it is to trust people."
Kelvin nodded.
"I guess I do."
He looked at Kalva.
"But you're different."
Kalva smiled.
"I loved Alex long before he became this successful."
Kelvin nodded approvingly.
"And that's why everyone believes you'll be Mrs. Anderson very soon."
Kalva blushed while Alex simply smiled without denying it.
Meanwhile...
Hundreds of miles away in Washington, D.C., Peace Williams had also taken the weekend off.
Unlike Alex's luxurious lifestyle, Peace preferred simple moments with the people she loved.
She arrived at a quiet lakeside park where her mother, Heaven Williams, was already waiting with a picnic basket.
"There she is!" Heaven called happily.
Peace smiled and hugged her mother.
"I missed you, Mom."
"I miss you every day."
Before they could continue talking, another voice interrupted.
"Am I late?"
Tiana walked toward them carrying snacks and drinks.
"You brought half the supermarket," Peace teased.
Tiana laughed.
"I know your mother loves homemade food, so I brought desserts."
The three women spread a blanket beneath a large oak tree.
For the next two hours, they laughed, shared stories, and enjoyed the peaceful afternoon.
Heaven watched her daughter quietly.
Peace had grown into a beautiful, intelligent, and compassionate woman.
Many powerful families had asked for her hand in marriage.
Princes.
Business heirs.
Young politicians.
Even famous celebrities.
Yet Peace had politely rejected every single one.
Not because she disliked them...
But because she believed love could never be forced.
Tiana suddenly smiled mischievously.
"Aunt Heaven."
"Yes?"
"When are you going to force Peace to get married?"
Peace almost dropped her juice.
"Seriously?"
Heaven laughed softly.
"I've never believed in forcing my daughter."
Peace sighed in relief.
"But..."
Peace looked at her mother suspiciously.
"If the right man appears..."
"I'll support the marriage."
Tiana clapped excitedly.
"Did you hear that?"
Peace rolled her eyes.
"You two have officially formed an alliance against me."
The three women burst into laughter.
Later that evening, they returned to the Presidential Residence for dinner.
President Lucas Williams was already seated at the dining table.
He looked up briefly.
"You're back."
"Yes, Dad."
"Did you enjoy your day?"
Peace blinked in surprise.
Her father rarely asked personal questions.
"Very much."
Lucas nodded.
"Good."
Although he remained a man of few words, Peace understood that deep inside, he cared for his family more than anyone realized.
After dinner, Peace stood alone on the balcony, watching the stars fill the night sky.
She smiled peacefully.
Life was simple.
She had a family who loved her.
A career she cherished.
Friends who always stood beside her.
She wanted nothing more.
Far away in New York, Alex stood on the balcony of his penthouse with Kalva resting comfortably against his shoulder.
Neither of them knew...
That destiny had already begun weaving their lives together.
A storm was quietly approaching.
One that would shatter dreams...
Test promises...
And change their futures forever.
to be continus....
