CHAPTER 33 The human female, Sakiko, has left in confusion. At least, that is Naïda’s estimation. She believes she is getting better at reading the state of mind of humans, but her most difficult challenge is the hormonal and chemical states called emotions: a critical part of the species’ social interaction, driving their behavior even more than rational understanding. Naïda feels ill-equipped to process them. Why would the Creators fail to give her that ability, so crucial to a successful bond with a human? Did the Creators themselves not experience emotions?
