The birthday(2)

The birthday was boring with the usual pleasantries between nobles and merchants, while there were also moments that made it exciting like the auction that the king hosted with the help of one of the most known merchants in the kingdom. Many useful things were auctioned there, of which Arthur got some. He managed to get his hands on a bottle of pills made to restore mana, though these pills were not ordinary since they were made by elves and have no impurities. He also managed to get a new katana made of mithril, a metal that allows the use of magic in the weapon, which made him have a couple of ideas that he could not wait to make into action.

The celebration would have ended in the same boring fashion if not for the ambitions of the prince. While everyone was getting ready to say their last birthday wishes to the king, he collapsed and stopped breathing. All people present were surprised by this scene because the king was still quite young to have such health problems, so they guessed that he was probably poisoned. Their guesses were proven correct by the royal doctor who found a potent poison in the king's wine. The prince announced to everyone that they could not leave before the culprit behind his father's death was found, even though he knew that the true culprit was him since he wanted the throne for himself.

Slowly every noble was getting questioned and the time for Arthur to be questioned came. When he entered he saw the prince smirking and had a bad premonition about it but he still went where the investigations were taking place. After some questions, he understood that all their leads were pointing at him so he used to his advantage the time that the prince went to call the guards to apprehend him to teleport at the gardens of the palace where Athena was waiting for him and they used the gate spell to go back to their kingdom.

Having arrived, Arthur sat on a chair and started thinking about the possible solutions to this problem. The only realistic one would be to go to war but Arthur was afraid of the human's spell that got rid of the demon king quite easily. This spell is unlike any else since it does not impact the target directly. It is called 'summoning of the hero' and what it does is summon a human from another world that is to become the hero of the kingdom. These individuals are really weak at the start but with the help of the gods' blessings, they become powerhouses quite easily. This is the ultimate weapon of the human kingdom and Arthur was afraid of it.

After some time he managed to calm down and he called his war counselor to whom he explained the situation and told him to get ready for war before he left to start his training.

During this time in Lawrence, the prince took over the king's place and tried to pacify the restless citizens. He declared that for seven days everybody was to pray for their fallen king. A chance that he would use to complete his preparations in order to summon a hero whom he would burden in order to kill Arthur. He also decided to have a meeting with the elf king to create an alliance between them in order to stall time for his hero to get powerful enough.
