Chapter 3

1995 Words
Sherry has been unwell since she left the party prematurely, a consequence of not being with her mate. She knew all about this when she chose to run, but she didn't anticipate it to be this bad! It has been almost two weeks since the party and everyday instead of having a peace of mind that she's away from her mate, she becomes even more distressed. There are times when she literally have to crawl to the bathroom with how dizzy she's feeling. Some nights, she wakes up with a pain that she cannot really explain. “What's the matter, honey, the doctor can't even tell what's wrong with you.” her mother the Luna says worriedly as she puts her hand over her forehead. She feels that it's burning and quickly retracts her hand. Her father the Alpha walks into the room and her elder brother Jeff is right behind him. Seeing Sherry's sickly state, the retired Alpha sighs and stands beside the Luna. “Well, the doctor also says that it's not poison.” Sherry's father adds and casts her a worried look. If he could take away his daughter's pain, he definitely would. Her brother observes her and smiles. “I'm sure Sherry will be up in no time, right sis?” he tries to lighten up the mood. That cheers her up a little, making her sneak in a smile. Sherry tries her best to sit up and rest against her bed's headboard. “Yeah, you guys don't have to worry about me. Maybe I just ate something bad. I'll sleep it off and I'll be fine.” she says, trying to convince them, hoping that it would work, but she knows perfectly well that this won't work until she meets her mate and they claim each other! “I promise.” Her mother hugs herself as she gets up and turns away from her, clearly trying to forget the worry that she's feeling. Her father is right beside her to comfort her too. “Well, I guess we'll let you rest now then.” her mother says as she breaks free from her husband's hold and goes to Sherry to give her a kiss on her forehead. Her father follows suit. “Good night, love.” her father whispers as they walk out of her room. Jeff is the last to leave and before he switches off the lights and closes the door, he turns to her and says, “Get well soon, ugly.” He really loves teasing his younger sister. After their exit, Sherry lies back down and stares outside the window. From where she is, she can see the bright moon that is full in bloom, its light penetrating through her window. The moon is so enticing to look at and as she stares at it longer, she feels like the pain that she felt before is subsiding. “Zoe.” Zoe? Her eyes widen at what she has just muttered. Who is Zoe and why did she just remember her? Sherry knows quite well that Zoe is one of the moon goddess' warriors in the legend. Ah, right! She supposedly comes from the moon and staring at the moon makes her remember bedtime stories read to her by her nannies and parents. She shakes herself from the reverie and chooses to sleep, but sleep doesn't want to catch up with her. Strangely enough, the pain that she felt so strongly earlier is gone and she cannot even feel a trace of it as if it never existed. Wow! Suddenly, as if mocking her, her thoughts goes back to him yet again.....Zack Daniels! She can't stop wondering what on earth she's ever going to do with him! Amelia and Emily had earlier told Sherry that when they tried leaving an hour after she left the party, they were held up at the Pack borders and it took them a while to be able to leave because they weren't letting people off easily at the Pack border. There was a checkpoint and the guards at the Pack border were taking a record of everyone entering and exiting the Pack. She can almost guess why. It probably wouldn't take long for him to find her and all she can say is that she's relieved that he hasn't yet. Zack Daniels is the Alpha of the Mystic Pack, the most powerful and influential Pack of the eastern territory. Aside that, they are also very wealthy in both natural resources as well as using the eastern ports as business ports with other continents. Because of that, they have a lot of enemies, a lot of people would naturally want to steal their territory, but no one ever succeeded. Thinking about it, it all makes sense to Sherry now. **** The first and second time she met Zack was back in Arnold's Pack, Greenspan. See, every summer, there is this training camp for high ranking wolves and warriors at the western Pack. Since she was an Alpha's child, she tagged along her brother Jeff and father. She was maybe thirteen when she was walking towards the training grounds to bring clothes for Jeff when she ran into Zack Daniels. She can distinctly remember being so stunned at the sight of him and all she could do was stare at him. He of course helped her up and picked up the supposedly clean, now dirty, clothes that she was supposed to bring her brother. Back then, she didn't understand how she felt, but she thought maybe it was just because she found him to be very handsome. The way she was so drawn to him was strange to her because she also found other guys handsome, but she didn't feel that drawn to them. Before she could even say a word, Charlotte Oliver came and he walked away with her. The second time that Sherry met Zack was when she bumped into Arnold and they were together coincidentally. Like the first time they met, she went still and only stared at him and this time round, he must've noticed, but still ignored her. He only said goodbye to Arnold without giving her much attention. And now after all these years, they meet again and to make it worse, as mates. It's now different and the feelings she had for him have faded and she doesn't know what to do anymore! She still wonders why he isn't mated with that girl Charlotte. Though Sherry didn't know much about her, she has heard a thing or two about her. She sighs and decides to close her eyes, forcing herself to enter dreamland. ******* The next morning, she wakes up fresh as a rose. The moonlight has now been replaced by the sunlight and she already feels energized, as if she has been born afresh. The pain that she was feeling is completely gone so she climbs out of her bed and stretches. She turns the speaker on and blasts some good vibes music on. She brushes her long, curly hair and her teeth, using the appropriate kind of brushes at least. She then changes from her nightdress and slips into a peach dress because she can feel that today will be a good day. She then heads downstairs to the kitchen, sliding down the stair rails, something she hasn't done in a long time because of the fact that she feels she's too old to be doing things like that, but that doesn't matter. Why not? Because today will be a good day....or so she feels! Sherry strides into the kitchen, humming and with a big smile on her face. She sees her parents already at the table and upon the seeing her, they appear shocked. “Well, look at my sunshine, are you feeling well today?” her dad asks and she gives him a kiss on the cheek as well as her mom who stares at her with her jaw dropping. “Good morning to you too caring daddy, and as well as to you sweet mummy.” she teases and sits at her respective seat. “Are you sure that you should be this joyful after being sick?” her mom asks, her tone still low and still slightly worried. “Let me tell you mom that I feel refreshed, powerful, energized and as happy as a clam today.” Sherry assures her. She hands her a plate and some utensils while she takes some eggs. Her parents are still asking if she's feeling any better and asking how sleep works wonders when Sherry notices that they are dressed formally. 'Is there an important event?' She wonders. She's about to make a snide comment about it, but since her stomach is empty and she can really use some of her mom's cooking right now, she decides to eat first. Not too long after, she can hear footsteps getting closer and not too long, her brother enters the kitchen and when he sees her, he raises an eyebrow. “It's not good to pretend to be sick, Sherry!” he teases and she rolls her eyes at the young Alpha. “And it's not good to show your ugly face this early in the morning, Jeff!” she retorts. At the sight of him, both of her parents wipe their mouths and stand up with her mom clearing the table. She's baffled since she's still eating and she still wants more of those sausages! “What's the hurry for?” she asks as she picks her cup of water. “We have guests from Mystic Pack, Alpha Zack Daniels and some of his Pack members are visiting.” she's in the midst of drinking and as soon as she hears that, she chokes and spits the liquid out of her mouth. Did she just hear them right? “Young lady, what kind of manners is that?” her mother is quick to reprimand her as she grabs a table cloth and starts wiping her mess off the table. Sherry coughs for a good while and when she gets a grip of herself, she turns to her brother who is now laughing hysterically at her. “Wh-who is coming?” she ask, almost hyperventilating, as if she didn't hear that in the first place. Her heart is ready to jump out of her chest and her brain is already formulating a way to escape. She can't meet Zack Daniels. Not now! “People from the Mystic Pack, is there anything wrong with that?” her dad states. He then grabs his suit coat from off the chair and puts it on. Her mom is finishing up with the cleaning. “W-why didn't you tell me?” She asks and her voice is now raised and she has to remind myself to calm down so she won't seem suspicious. “Well, you were sick. You didn't need to greet them, but seeing as you are so energetic, you will come now.” her mom says. “I don't want to.” she makes the mistake of refusing too fast because then, her mom looks up. Her mother is a sweet and kind soul, but when it comes to duties, she takes them seriously, and that's how she raised Sherry....to take her duties seriously! For some unknown reasons, people around Sherry always predict that she will be a Luna. Her mom is no different, and so she trained her on how to be the best Luna ever! Her mother is shooting daggers at her and she definitely senses that she's royally screwed. Her mother's look is telling Sherry that it's part of her duty to welcome visitors and she knows that. However, Sherry doesn't mind greeting their Pack's visitors but these particular visitors...she's not too thrilled! However, she's damn convinced that there's no escape therefore she has to stay still and do what's needed of her!
