Chapter 1

1699 Words
*Two years before Carla and Sherry met* Being unable to find your mate might cause insanity and severe weakness. However, this rarely ever happens, but when it does, those who haven't met their mates will definitely become Omegas of the lowest level until they find their mates. Some people who don't find their mates at a certain age will be forced to mate with someone else who isn't their mate if they want to keep sane. Well, Sherry's Pack is just a small Pack as compared to William's, Arnold's, Zack's and Leonard's Packs, though each and every year, there is this big party that is being thrown for all young werewolf adults in hopes of finding their mates. Finding one's mate as a werewolf is primordial and essential to the very survival of the were kind. Due to that fact, Sherry who happens to be an Alpha's daughter attended her first party when she just turned eighteen since her parents forced her to attend. Luck wasn't on her side since she didn't find her mate there, though she was delighted. See, she's not too excited about meeting her mate since she wants to live a free life first. She wants the freedom to go wherever she feels like and do the things she needs to do before meeting her mate. She doesn't deny the fact that having a mate is great, but she has other plans before she meets whoever her mate is. After the very first party that she attended, she never attended another one for two years until now when her mother the Luna decides that she absolutely has to attend this year's party. Her mother won't hear of her excuses, citing that she's already twenty hence growing old and the older she gets, the lesser the chances of meeting her mate! Through so much persuading, Sherry Harvey finally agrees to attend the party. She doesn't have any hopes of meeting her mate but she doesn't have a choice, does she? Sherry has already arrived at the venue and she's standing at one of the corners of the ballroom of the Pack where the party is being held with a glass of juice in her hand. The big ballroom is filled with people and the lights are dim and there's loud music playing. The party has been ongoing for over an hour and all this while, Sherry hasn't seen any signs of her potential mate something which relieves her, somehow. “Sherry, are you really just going to stand there all night?” Her friend Emily asks while taking her other hand and tries grabbing her to the centre for a dance. Due to Emily's forceful pulling, the juice spills a bit everywhere and upon realising that she's messing, she immediately stops. “Emily just look at the mess you've made! Sherry needs to look perfect for her mate!” Amelia scolds her and Sherry turns towards her. “Aw, come on, a drop of juice can't ruin Sherry. She's perfect the way she is. I bet your mate will be a hottie.” Emily whispers causing the three friends to giggle. In fact, Amelia has already found her mate though Sherry only convinced her to accompany them so as to make sure that Emily doesn't get too wild. She tends to do that especially at the presence of alcoholic beverages. “And I bet your mate is an Alpha.” Amelia says with a touch of a dreamy voice, something which makes Sherry to quickly give her a reprimanding look. “No, he will not be. He will be a regular Pack wolf and we will live simple Pack life.” She says as she hands her glass of juice to Amelia. “I'm suffocating in here, I'm going to step outside for a little while.” “You're no fun be with Sherry!” Emily retorts but Sherry just laughs at her while shaking her head. “You suck!” This is definitely not her idea of fun! Without giving it much thought, Sherry pushes herself out of the crowd. She passes by some guys asking for a dance, but she just keeps on walking unbothered. As she finds her way to the doors leading outside, her head starts to hurt and a lightheaded feeling overcomes her making her stomach to start churning. Her senses start perking it all up and she doesn't fail to notice the sudden changes. Was her food spiked? No, that's impossible since she'd have smelt it immediately it was served. Her sense of smell and detecting poison is so high! The colourful lights swirling around the room make her feel extremely dizzy all of a sudden and she starts crashing from one person to another like a drunkard. “I-I'm sorry.” she whispers and tries desperately holding onto something so she won't fall. Her eyes roam around to look for Emily or Amelia, but they are nowhere to be found. Suddenly, she picks up a scent in the midst of the boisterous party room, and the people that keep on crashing onto her won't deter her from picking it. That very faint scent is like a drop of water in the middle of a desert. Her feet move on their own and unknowingly, she's following the scent. Gradually, it starts getting stronger and she's practically pushing people around her just to find whatever or whoever it belongs to. Her heart starts pounding and she wants to stop since she's starting to have bad feelings about this, but she can't. She has the urge to follow and find this scent and she's determined not rest till she finds what is making her feel like this. She has a feeling that somehow, she's going to regret this. However, she keeps following until she finds herself at the door leading to the Pack House. Her eyes frantically scan the place since the scent is very strong at this point and the scent is definitely coming from here. And then, she sees him! Sherry's breath is ragged as she observes the man who is standing alert, looking all around him, definitely looking for her as well. His eyes are hazel and he's trying to focus. Quickly, Sherry conceals her scent, which she knows is pretty dumb because she's aware that she can't conceal her scent from her mate totally, but she prays it helps for now since he doesn't know who she is. She swallows hard and turns around then starts walking away quickly, but at the same time careful not to draw his attention towards her. 'Why are you leaving, our mate is there!' her wolf scolds but she keeps on walking, heading straight to the door. The more she walks away, the worse she feels, but she doesn't mind since she knows it's not going to last long. Her main aim is to get out of there. Her chest tightens and her heart is out of control. Her hands are clammy and she badly needs that fresh air she was looking for before. As soon she sees the door, she starts running and since her heals are bothering her, she takes them off and holds them as she runs past the people. At first, she doesn't know where to go but then seeing the visible barriers of the Pack's territory, she immediately heads there. She runs into the forest and her long white dress is already ruined, with some of its parts being shredded, but that doesn't bother her. She's busy thinking how possible this can be since she feels that there's no way the person she just saw would be her mate! Zack Daniel! She runs further towards nowhere, and she just knows that she has to get away before he notices her. Her chest is pounding so hard even more that she's practically running so much and so fast. Her hair that was in a messy bun earlier has now dropped and her feet are mudded and scratched from running barefooted. “Damn it, if I knew I shouldn't have come.” she cusses within herself. When she finally judges that she's far enough, she starts slowing down and pacing her breath. When she comes to her senses, she realises that she's completely in the middle of nowhere. The trees around me were so tall, blocking the moonlight, but just letting enough light for her to see her surroundings. Yet, she still wanders thoughtlessly while thinking about the weirdest encounter she just had. How is Zack Daniel her mate? She thought he had.... Suddenly, she freezes when she feels a pull. “He followed me?!” she wonders inwardly. It seems he just did! Frantically, she looks around for a place to hide, but that's pointless because she's literally in the middle of nowhere. She can feel him getting closer and she needs to hide quickly because she doesn't want to meet him. And to be honest, she thinks there has been a mistake. The pull is strong and her instincts are making her to get closer to him, but she's stronger than that. Looking around, she finds that the only place she can hide is behind a big rock surrounded by a thicket. It's a good five minutes before she sees his figure emerging out of the darkness. She runs a bit more faster and when she reaches the rock, she runs behind it and hides under the thicket, hoping that he won't see her. The pull is so strong such that it's getting harder for her to fight it back. Sherry watches him as he looks around, his breath ragged from running and at each step he's taking, the impact of the pull is amplified and she knows that that's what led him to find her. He stops in front of the rock where she's hiding behind and she makes the mistake of still looking at him because when he looks ahead, their eyes meet! The world stops spinning and time freezes when their eyes meet and Sherry is practically breathlessly. Those are definitely the cutest pair of hazel eyes she has ever seen all her life!
