chapter one
Prologue Blackridge seemed like a normal, quiet town, but its secrets ran deep. Werewolves ruled here, living by strict traditions. Humans knew to stay out of their way, and talk of vampires was dismissed as silly myths. But for Freya Greyworm, those myths felt strangely real. Freya was born into the Greyworm family, one of the most respected wolf families in Blackridge. But unlike her family, Freya was different. While others transformed into strong wolves, she remained wolfless. In their world, this made her an Omega—weak, unwanted, and at the bottom of the pack. Her life was filled with shame and questions. Why hadn’t she shifted? Why did the dark feel comforting instead of frightening? And why did she crave the strange bottle her mother always told her to carry? The liquid inside wasn’t water. It was something else, something she didn’t understand but desperately needed as her Mother always made sure to have it packed in her lunch bagpack That thirst was her first clue. It wasn’t a wolf’s thirst for a hunt. It was something deeper, darker, and impossible to ignore. The red liquid soothed the burning hunger inside her. But Freya didn’t understand what it meant. Then everything changed one day at school. Her bottle spilled, and the red liquid inside caught everyone’s attention. It wasn’t water. It was blood. The room went silent. Whispers spread. “She’s not a wolf. What is she?” Fear quickly turned to hatred. Werewolves followed strict rules, and anything different was seen as a threat. To them, Freya wasn’t just an Omega anymore. She was a monster. The F4, the strongest and most popular wolves in school, led the charge in making her life miserable. But Freya wasn’t just an outcast. Something powerful and dangerous was growing inside her. Her wolf blood and something else—vampiric blood—were at war. She felt the darkness within, pulling her toward a truth she was afraid to face. What will she do when she collides with a witch who told her she was going to lose her parents the following day or become human to live a simple life? Will she choose to ignore her warning and become human or fight to know the cause of her parents death? Now, Freya must find out who she really is and why her parents kept her true nature a secret. In a town ruled by wolves that hate vampires more than anything, her very existence is a dangerous secret. FREYA'S POV [THE AWAKEN CURSE] "I, Alpha Rhegar, reject you, Freya Greyworm, as my mate." His words echoed like thunder, striking me in front of the entire hall. Laughter and whispers filled the air as my heart shattered. My wolf whimpered, but I stood frozen, my mind struggling to process the humiliation. And then I heard the familiar voice too. " I Jameson rejected you from joining my coven, you cease to be my mate from now on." ****************************************************************** [BEFORE THE CURSE, FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL] My parents had always wanted me to go to a wolf institute, something I didn't want either. I have had enough wolf friends, and I also need to mingle with humans, but my parents were overly protective and would always warn me about the nature of humans when they found out who I truly am. I stood outside Moon Stone Institute with my gaze on the students who were dropped off in fancy cars. "This is going to be harder than I thought." I said slowly tying my shoelace. I was about to get up when I was hit with a bag on my face. My hair scattered as I tried to calm myself down. It could have been a mistake. But then, I saw a white shoe right in front of me. I started to count before I could raise my head, and there were four already. My heart skipped. "As it begins, already?" "And who do we have here?" A voice like that of Celine Dion said mockingly. I raised my head up, but a knock landed immediately on my head, sending my face back to their feet. "Looks like our new student didn't know where she was. Can we show her how we welcome newcomers?" Another voice that looked like that of a frog said again. I wanted to fight back, but it was my first day at school. But then I felt a hand drag me off my feet. What? Am I flying? I was a few inches off the floor. I tried to free myself but I couldn't. The hand dragged me and threw me into some mulky water. "Oh, poor girl. Want to cry?" A voice said, and all of them burst into laughter. I watched as they all went their separate ways. Thus, my day at Moon Stone Institute was just starting. I looked at myself and felt like crying. I vomited as I retched of horse dung. "Welcome to the academy." A voice said behind me. I looked back, and she quickly covered her nose. "Here, you can change into this once you are done having your bath. My name is Violet Nelly. Come find me when you are done." Before I could say a word, she dropped the uniform and went away. Was this some kind of joke? Why is everyone behaving weird to me? I grabbed the clothes and looked around to see different eyes staring at me. "Is that the new girl?" I heard a voice and looked around. God! It is happening again. My eyes were bloodthirsty, and my teeth burned. I felt thirsty as I looked at their throats. I quickly grabbed my back and drank from the bottle my mother gave me. I don't know what it was, but it calmed down my urge to drink. I don't know what to drink anyway. I walked into the bathroom and had a change of clothes. Funny enough, Violet was waiting for me at the entrance of the toilet. "So, I guess you have met them already," she said, walking right in front of me. "Met them? Who?" I asked, bonding my wet hair. "The F4." Violet replied, "This is your student card, and here will be your lecture class. Good luck!" She said nothing and walked away. " F4? What is that?" I didn't know when I said it out loud. "Fiona, Fara, Finley, and finally Fianna." A voice said behind me. "Ah, my name is Roseline," she said, adjusting her glasses. "I am Freya." I tried to say, but she smiled. "The new girl, I know who you are already." She slowly showed me a video of how I was thrown into the mucky water and clenched my fist in anger. "Don't worry, it will pass when we have another new student." Roseline said with a smile. " What? When will that be?" I asked, almost bursting into tears. It was my first day at school, but it was already going south for me. The F4 entered the class almost immediately, giggling. "What is that smell?" Fianna asked, looking at me. "She stinks." Fara added They both kept quiet, but immediately a stunning, handsome boy walked in. His entrance commanded authority, and I felt the aura around him was strong enough to make me go thirty again. I brought out my bottle and drank the water again. That was my last zip anyway. "That is Rhegar. The hottest boy in school." Roseline chip in quickly. I turned my gaze to meet hers, but the teacher was in. "I can see you have introduced Freya to us all." The teacher said she was trying to cover her nose. "I am going to drop this, and you all are to make sure you get it done and submit it to my table." The woman said and walked away. Her heels were making a weird sound. The class immediately went into a frenzy mode, with all of them gisting about the holiday. Instead, the F4 walked towards my table once again. "Where are you from?" Finley asked, the one with a froggy voice. She was tall, and I knew she was the one that carried me and tossed in the pool. I was about to talk, but then my gaze met his. He stood up and started to walk toward my table. My heart skipped, and I knew if he was coming towards me, then I was in for another trouble.
