“The hell took you so long?” Jaxon asked as soon I stepped inside our designated studio. “Hello to you too, Prince!” I chuckled, knowing I was still a minute early from our call time. “I just had something to take care of. What’s up?” I asked, flopping down on the couch with so much happiness buzzing around my entire existence. Since I dropped Mackenzie off, I couldn’t stop grinning. I wasn’t planning on dropping by the dance company. I knew no one I had to talk to would be there, but something pushed me to cruise by anyway and I was glad I did. “My wedding next weekend, that’s what’s up,” Jaxon cheerfully replied.
“Did you say next weekend?” I arched a brow, wondering if I heard him correctly. I then turned to Maddox who was playing around with the soundboard and all he did was shrug. “Yeah, Riles and I decided that we wanted this done and over with before the anniversary concert and the tour. She also said she didn’t want to look like she had swallowed a gigantic watermelon walking down the aisle,” Jaxon sighed. “I think women look adorable like that,” Sky stated as he fiddled with his guitar. Of course, he would know a thing or two about that. When James and he got married, James was sporting a huge baby bump, so yeah, I had to agree that she looked good being a pregnant bride. “That’s what I said! I think she’d look awesome wearing a wedding dress with a baby bump,” Jaxon drawled.
“And everybody’s cool with that?” I asked, wondering how they were going to pull the wedding off in less than two weeks. Obviously, it wasn’t the original plan. The wedding was supposed to happen sometime at almost the end of the tour, so it was kinda surprising that Jaxon and Riley were moving it this early. But hey, if that’s what they want, then who were we to say no? “No one actually said no to it. James and Colin were okay with it, as long as we got our s**t done before the concert and the tour,” Maddox answered. “And are we close to getting our s**t done?” I chuckled. “f**k no, not even a bit,” Sky answered with a grin. “But..” Jaxon interjected with a s**t-eating grin. “I hired people who will be helping out with the anniversary concert and the tour as well as the wedding preparations, so our asses only need to practice and eventually get hauled to the lake house.”
“Hire people?” I asked, knitting my brows together. “Yeah, like a hundred or something,” Maddox snorted. “And... Riley agreed to it?” I teased, knowing what the answer would be. “Nope, and she will never know unless you fuckers don’t keep your mouths shut,” Jaxon answered, pointing his finger at all three of us. “Your lake house, huh?” I grinned back as I shook my head at how extra Jaxon was being since he met Riley.
I mean it was cute since he never once did anything like that to any woman. He even got to a point where he was willing to cut ties with Mr. P just so he could be with her. The guy was obviously in love and would do anything for his soon-to-be ex-stepsister turned fiance. She wasn’t exactly the demanding type or the flashy kind, in fact, she was a simple gal who was a kickass interior designer, so I could only imagine how Riley would react if she found out how much money Jaxon was spending to get things done in time for their wedding. He probably made up a lame excuse that everyone’s got time to spare. It was gutsy if you asked me. Riley would probably cut his balls off and serve them on a silver platter if she ever found out. Jaxon is a motherfucking billionaire, but Riley didn’t care about that s**t.
She hated it if Jaxon used his money to buy her expensive things. They even had a long discussion about signing a prenuptial agreement that almost blew Jaxon’s gasket. Luckily, Jaxon won that round, stating that there was no way they were ever going to get a divorce and that he wouldn’t splurge on her. You see, she cared about independence, hard work, and treating people nice, so whenever Jaxon uses his money like that, she freaks out a bit.
“Yeah, man. That’s where everything started,” Jaxon answered, batting his eyelashes as if he had the longest ones in the world. “Well, alright then. What’s the first order of business?” I asked, getting up to grab my bass guitar. “Food, then have a go at the new songs, then food again, then...” Jaxon counted off with his fingers before turning to Sky and Maddox for directions. "What’s next again?”
"Practice," both Maddox and Sky groaned. "Yeah, that and then food again," Jaxon chuckled. "And here I thought Riley was the pregnant one," I laughed as I adjusted my strings to match Sky's strings. "Alright fuckers, time to get down to business!" Maddox exclaimed, clapping his hands together before heading towards the mic stand. Everyone followed suit. We kicked off with our newest song, Bondage, followed by Love After Solitude, then Amber Moon, and the rest of our songs that we had chosen for the anniversary concert. We played until we were able to hear what we wanted to hear before heading out.
"So, got any plans tonight?" Jaxon asked as we boarded the elevator together. I looked at my watch wondering what the exact time was and smiled when it was just a little past five. "What's with the grin, Knight?" Jaxon questioned in the kind of tone that told anyone that he was about to bombard you with a lot of questions if you didn't answer truthfully. "Uh, I'm heading to the Orpheum Theatre," I answered. "Oh, right business," he supplied, keeping an eye on me and I literally cracked knowing that he was just getting started. I don't normally hang around the dance company as much as I did now, and I knew for a fact that he was starting to wonder why I've been spending most of my free time there compared to the clubs I own. "Yeah and..." I started, robbing my hand at the back of my neck. "I'm going to see if Kenzie's still there."
Jaxon stopped dead in his tracks and looked at me for a second. He stared at me in disbelief and only started moving when the elevator door started closing with us right in its path. "Kenzie? As in Mack? As in Mackenzie Young?" I looked at Jaxon, wondering what he really thought about this. I mean, he may be a goof, but we respect each other's opinions a lot. He knew I owned a dance company, but I never told him that Kenzie got in and it was only now that I wanted to come clean to my best friend. I originally thought that Sky mentioned our encounter with Mackenzie, but then again, Sky wasn't the type who would meddle in people's affairs unless there was a need to. So when no one mentioned what happened, I simply kept my mouth shut. "Yeah," I sighed. He shook his head in disbelief as he read the message written all over my face. We didn't need words to know what the other was saying, so we just nodded in understanding. "Alright, man. Well, let me know how that goes," Jaxon said as he went in for our bro hug.
"Sure," I answered before heading towards where I dropped Kenzie off.
