This story and the characters within it are fictional. However, the lovely town of Hakodate is quite real and there are references to well-known sites, locations, and businesses found there. There any also be references to historical events as well as Japanese legal and cultural views. I’ve tried to describes these ideas, areas, and the city itself as accurately as possible, though occasionally I fudged a bit to fit the story’s needs.
