Chapter 2

Ria's POV The classroom was a lot bigger than that of my human school, even the chairs and tables were structured differently. Everyone's eyes stayed fixed on me as I found a seat for myself. Did I have to attract so much attention? The professor let out an awkward cough before speaking. “Alright, if we could settle down, we'll start with page 4.” Then the students all did that thing where everybody pretended they were already listening. I took out my textbook and turned to the page the professor called. I managed to focus despite the whisperings behind me. Immediately the professor left the class, they all turned to me, their gazes sharp like a predator looking at a prey. My fingers tremble slightly as I tried to arrange my stationery into my bag. “Won't you introduce yourself, new girl?” a guy with grey eyes, dark brown hair, and a rugged look said. The students grinned like they just found a new source of entertainment. Surely they did. “I am Ria. A transfer student.” I forced the words out of my mouth, fiddling my fingers under the table. “Shut up!” A voice came from behind, making heads turn. It was the girl from earlier. “You're not a transfer student, you’re a human rat.” A wave of cold laughter erupted. My fingers dug into my thighs. “Thought as much,” the grey eyed guy mocked. “It must be a great pleasure for you to be here, you get to watch royalty and even stand close to them.” I picked up my bag, and stood up abruptly. I caught sight of a guy sitting at the corner of the classroom, he looked uninterested in everything that was happening. “Are you running away rat? This is our territory, we will find you no matter how hard you run,” she laughed malevolently. “Weak and pathetic.” The grey eyed guy said. I rushed out of the classroom, almost in tears. Their words stung hard. Maya rushed to follow me. I didn't know where I was running to, I just wanted to escape from them. “Ria… Ria… Wait!” Maya called, her voice sounded tired. She was a little chubby, so she probably got tired of running quickly, and now she is panting heavily. I turned to her. “Leave me alone, you don't even know me,” I yelled. “I know you're hurt, but you don't know your way around here.” “That has nothing to do with you.” I hate it when people pretend to care, I couldn't tell if she was pretending though. “I am your friend, Ria.” “Friend?” I just met you three hours ago,” I stated the obvious. “Yeah, but no one has ever looked at me with such kind eyes. They only see my figure before seeing my face. No one ever treated me so equally,” she broke. I didn't know what she's been through, and I did not understand the depth of her words, but I could see clearly that she meant every word she uttered. She had probably been bullied or mocked for being chubby. “I'm sorry.” “You don't have to be. I just wanted you to see that it's you and I.” I wanted to chuckle, but I held it back. Of course it's me and her. “You seem happy now,” she muttered. “Not exactly.” “Let's go get sandwiches then,” she smiled. She must really love food. “Alright.” I agreed. She then took me to the cafeteria. Maya ordered lunch while I looked around the place. It was bigger than the cafeterias I have seen. Everything here was bigger, nicer and more aesthetic. I stood out of line, eyeing every corner of the room till my eyes landed on the girl who bullied me. Not again. She was everywhere. I gripped the hem of my shirt tightly. Maya got the sandwiches and she turned to me, she smiled, but the smile quickly died out when she saw the girls too. “Oh s**t! It's Jolyne again.” Jolyne. The name registered quickly into my head. “Let's just get out of here,” I said to Maya, We found ourselves a seat at a far end of the room. Maya immediately started chatting about random stuff… She talks a lot. I noticed the guy from earlier at the other end. He wasn't eating, he had his head down. Even with that posture, I could tell he was gorgeous. Maya caught me staring. “Ahem… That's Marcus, the vampire prince.” Vampire prince? My eyes widened. “Well… He is trouble.” “Trouble? He seems calm to me.” She let out a small laugh. “Unlike Isaac, Marcus is chill, but still dangerous, even more dangerous than Isaac.” Isaac was the guy who bullied me earlier. Was she saying this to scare me? “I am not scared.” “Did you see your face? I am not trying to scare you. Everyone stays away from the vampire prince.” “Does he bite or something?” She laughed harder. “He doesn't bite, Ria, just don't cross lines with him.” Ohh… I get her now. I am definitely not planning to cross lines with anyone. I munched on my sandwich. Honestly, Maya was a nice company. Suddenly, Jolyne and her squad appeared out of nowhere. Damn! Could this day get any more difficult? “Ohh… The rat is here,” Jolyne snickered. I sighed. She moved closer to me, her heels clicked against the floor. “Could you please let me be?” “Your kind shouldn't be here, peasant.” She took the sandwich from my tray, threw in on the floor, and she stepped on it. The crowd in the cafeteria laughed mockingly. “That's mean!” Maya yelled. “Are you speaking to me, meatball?” Jolyne turned to her. Maya couldn't speak. I could see that the word ‘meatball’ hurt her. “I don't have business with you for now. I just wanna play with my new toy,” she grinned. “Preying on the weak? I thought you came from a bloodline of vampire queens,” a calm, authorative voice said from the side. The students shifted, and a figure slowly came into view. It was the vampire prince. “I… I…” Jolyne couldn't speak.
