The following morning, I woke up to the sound of pebbles hitting my window. "What the f**k?" I muttered angrily as I rolled out of bed. I opened my window and looked down to find Derrek about to throw another pebble, but when he saw me, he dropped it and smiled. "It's 6am on a Saturday morning," I growled, "somebody better dead or dying."
"I take it you're not a morning person?" Derrek asked.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"I was hoping we could explore Los Angeles together."
"Sorry, but I already have plans." And with that, I slammed my window shut and locked it. Unfortunately, thanks to Derrek, I couldn't get back to sleep, so I took a quick shower and got ready for the day and when I finally made it downstairs, it was already 8am.
"You're up early," Mr. Harrison commented as I was eating some cereal.
"I thought I would go to the library this morning," I answered with a shrug, "you know, do some research on other supernatural creatures."
"That sounds like a swell idea," Mr. Harrison said, "my wife, Catherine, is the head librarian. I'll give her a call to let her know that you're coming." I thanked him and before he left, Mr. Harriosn handed me an iPhone in a red case. "I've already taken the liberty of activating this for you. I've also added all the phone numbers you'll need as well."
"Thanks Mr. Harrison," I said as he walked away. I then went into my contacts and saw not only Mr. Harrison's number, but also Taylor's and Alison's numbers as well, and before I went back to the home screen, I noticed that Peter's number was there as well. "That sneaky son of a b***h," I thought with a smile as I put my new phone in my back pocket, "he's going to get his cocky ass fired if he's not careful." I then scribbled a quick not to Taylor and Alison, explaining where I was going and that I would be back soon, and then I headed out the door. As I was walking down the sidewalk, the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. I whirled around and sucker punched Derrek in the face.
"Jesus Christ," he said, rubbing his jaw, "what the hell is wrong with you?"
"Karma's a b***h ain't it?" I said, crossing my arms and glaring at him, "you of all people should know better than to sneak up on someone with supernatural senses."
"My uncle was right," Derrek called after me as I turned and walked away from him, "you're a feisty little thing." Without breaking stride or turning around, I flipped him the bird and continued walking.
"You must be Anna," a woman greeted me when I finally made it to the library, "Roger told me you were coming."
"Nice to meet you, Mrs. Harrison," I said, shaking the woman's hand.
"Please call me Cathy," she said with a kind smile, "I've taken the liberty of gathering some books that might interest you and placed them on one of the tables."
"Do you have anything about wolves?" I asked curiously, "ever since I got here, I have found them rather fascinating."
"Oh absolutely," Cathy answered, "would you like some more materials on werewolves as well?"
"Yes please," I answered enthusiastically as I sat down at the table that she had laid aside for me. As I began to read, the hairs on the back of my neck rose again. "Would you like a reminder of what happens when you sneak up on me?" I asked, turning around to find Derrek, once again, behind me, "or do you think one fist to the face was enough?"
"You never answered my question about exploring Los Angeles together," he said, looking me up and down, "you were kind of in a bad mood earlier."
"I already told you that I had plans," I answered, getting up from my seat and crossing my arms, "what part of that did you not understand?"
"And what are these plans exactly?"
"None of your damn business." By now Derrek and I were toe to toe with each other and I saw his eyes briefly flash light blue. I also heard a growl deep in his throat and heard him mutter something unintelligible that sounded like Peter, but i couldn't be sure. "I suggest you back the hell up," I growled, I could feel my teeth elongating, "before one of us does something we'll regret."
"I don't take too kindly to being threatened," Derrek growled, "so I suggest you show me more respect."
"Or what?" I challenged, "you'll throw me to the ground like you did to one of your students? I like to see you try." Derrek lunged at me, but before he could lay a hand on me, I shoved him so hard that he flew across the room and landed on his back.
"You will be my mate," Derrek growled as he got to his feet, "my uncle doesn't deserve you." Right before my eyes, he shifted and with a roar, he lunged at me again, but this time I was ready, and I let out an earsplitting roar that literally shook the library rafters and sent him flying across the room and hitting thew wall behind him with a loud crack.
I walked over to Derrek, grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, and yanked him, non-too-gently, to his feet. "You ever threaten me again, I'll do more than just throw you against a wall, do I make myself clear?" I growled and when he didn't answer, I roared "ANSWER MEEEE!"
"Yes," Derrek whispered and with that, I shoved him away from me and left the library in a better mood than when I arrived.
