Chapter 11Leah walked past the sofa for the umpteenth time as she paced the polished wood floors of the living room. She was thinking about the dance last night. Yes, it was true there were no interesting suitors at the McClellan's gathering. But, then she wondered if she'd recognize one if she saw him. Feeling restless, Leah saddled a chestnut mare to ride to the bay in the cool of the afternoon. Breathing the salty air would clear her mind, she thought. Leah was glad her father had shown her the back trail along the coast. She could get to four-mile landing in half the time this way. It came in handy when she needed supplies from the mercantile store. But, today she was looking for a secluded spot where she could sense the ebb and flow of the tide as the waves lapped against the beach.
