A prank?!

1010 Words
What just happened? I did not rush out of the gymnasium as all the others did. Only God knows what will happen to me if I rushed out of there like the others. I went to where my parents were waiting for me. I stood by them until the crowd disperses a bit before heading out of the gymnasium. It was utter chaos when everybody heard that loud booming sound coming from the Science building beside the gymnasium. It’s like someone threw a stun grenade at a corner table that is covered in flasks full of dangerous chemicals. When we finally got outside of the gym, we saw a huge fire coming from the building in question. My dad asked a random person about what happened to have caused that explosion and they answered that someone pulled a practical joke on the school. A prank. It was a freaking prank that caused the explosion. How can they be this stupid? Ugh. Now I can’t deliver my speech. Then again, I didn’t prepare one, to begin with. But I still wanted to give it though. Dad saw my crestfallen face and asked me what is wrong. “I wanted to give a valedictory speech. Yet I wasn’t able to give it. I always wanted to give one, that is why I persevered and studied hard to be at the top of the class.” Dad smiled sadly at me. He knows how hard I have been studying to be on top. He witnessed all those sleepless nights, all those times when I even forgot to eat because I have exams tomorrow. He was there to tell me, more like force me, to go to sleep or eat. I almost fainted once because I neglected to eat for a whole day. “It’s okay. You can give a speech later at your party at the shack. Everybody is waiting for you at the shack. They’ve been preparing a surprise for you all day.” At the mere mention of the regulars making a surprise for me, I couldn’t wait to go home and go straight to the shack. My mom would probably not approve of that but I know dad will be able to convince her to let me go. It’s not like I’m going anywhere dangerous. “Mom, can I go to the shack later? Dad said the regulars have a surprise for me because I graduated high school. Come on, mom. Please.” I did my best puppy dog face with huge eyes and a pout no one can resist. She thought for a brief moment before saying, “Fine, but we’re both coming. Me and your dad. Are we clear?” I nodded my head while bouncing on the ball of my heels. A huge grin started to split my face in half. When mom saw that, she shake her from side to side, knowing that I was planning something as well. I wasn’t planning something sinister but I had an inspiration for a practical joke. Same as what happened earlier, only, I’ll keep the explosion to a minimum and make sure that no one gets bloody in the process. I should look for some kind of homemade sparklers on the internet. I took out my phone and searched for a simple recipe and instructions on how to make homemade sparklers and checked if I have the ingredients for them. If not, I’m going to have to run to the nearest store that sells them. “What are you planning, my little minnow? Care to tell your dad?” The look on my dad’s face tells me that he wants in on my surprise. I went on my tippy toes, my dad is a foot taller than me and my mom, and whispered in his ear my secret surprise. We started to walk back to the car, leaving mom to discuss some things with my adviser. Of the two of my parents, mom is the one responsible for my academics. Dad is mostly responsible for my mischief. Since he worries too much about my safety when doing this sort of stuff, he joins in so that he could keep an eye on me. Yes, I know. You’re probably wondering why I am like this when I don’t usually do this at school. Simple, I don’t want to get caught up in the crosshairs of the elites in our school. Better to be mischievous around people you know and who knows you. While mom was talking with my adviser, me and my dad went inside the car to plan our little surprise for the regulars. We waited for mom to join us inside the car because we can’t wait to start our little experiment. Mom took longer than expected but we left school grounds when she was seated inside the car beside dad. Mom and dad were talking about the explosion earlier so I drowned out their conversation and imagined what my college life would be like. I am always drawn to the sea ever since I found out what I was. I was so busy imagining things that I unconsciously fell asleep. I woke up when I felt the car stopped moving. I opened my eyes and we were back at the house. I immediately went out of the car, went inside the house, went upstairs to my room, and immediately changed my clothes. I went back down and when I saw dad, I dragged him while shouting to mom that we are going out to buy some things for a little experiment. We got inside the car again and drove to where we could buy the things that we needed for homemade sparklers. We were so excited that we didn't see the car that suddenly appeared on the side of the intersection.
