Waking up in a hospital is not cool

1087 Words
Where am I? Why is it so dark? "Oh, my baby. How is she, doctor? How is my Serena doing? Is she going to be alright?" Mom? What is happening? What just happened? Where's dad? Wait, we were in the car when we heard the screech of tires from a truck. Everything went black for me after that. "She's stable, Mrs. SInclair. Both of them are. All thanks to this young man who immediately called the ambulance when he saw the crash site. He also did first aid on the two and the driver of the truck." Everything was silent after the doctor said that. I heard shuffling noises in the background, then came to a thump, and someone starts to sob. Ugh, most likely, it's mom. "Thank you so much for saving them. Especially my baby Serena. What is your name?" Whoever the young man was, he was silent for a while. Probably contemplating the pros and cons of telling his name but thought better of it. "My name is Noah Alexander. I'm new in the area. Glad I could help them. I should be going. My father would kill me if I don't go back now. It was nice meeting you, Mrs. Sinclair. I'll see you and your family around." Mom was still sobbing when the guy, Noah, said goodbye. "Why don't you bring your father with you to the Surf Shack some time? It'll be on the house. That's the least we could do for you. Bye." I don't know what happened during that time but I blanked out into unconsciousness. I woke up probably a few hours after that. I opened my eyes slowly and saw that everything is dark. It is already night time, I guess. I tilted my head to my left and I saw dad on a bed similar to mine. He has a cast on his left foot and a few scrapes here and there. Nothing too life-threatening. I sighed in relief when I saw that. I tilted my head to my right and I saw my mom, holding my hand in hers and sleeping on top of it. Afraid that I might wake her up if I let go of her hands, I stayed in that position. Now, to check for my own injuries. I looked down to my feet and saw no casts whatsoever. My toes moved when I tried moving them, giving me an idea that I didn't get injured down there. Next, I looked down at my right hand. I saw a few scrapes here and there as well, but no casts. I used my right hand to feel my head and felt where my injuries are. I probably bumped my head on something that caused the injury. Most head injuries look like they are big but when you clean them, they are actually small. Head injuries cause the most bleeding when compared to other trauma injuries. Again, I sighed in relief because that is all that we have to endure after the crash. I was curious about how the guy earlier looked. Was he handsome? Was he hot? I was on cloud nine just trying to imagine how Noah looked like, I didn't realize that I was already giggling. Mom felt me giggling. She woke up and she immediately hugged me. I couldn't breathe from her excited hug that I had to tap her shoulder a couple of times before she let go of me. "Oh thank the heavens. You're okay! I was worried because you didn't wake up earlier. Your dad woke up but went back to sleep after eating dinner. Are you hungry? Thirsty?" I was a bit thirsty and hungry so I asked my mom for some water first before food. She gave me water in a bottle with a straw so it would be easier for me to drink from it. Mom gave me food afterward "Mom. What happened? Who was the person who called the ambulance for us? Was he handsome? Was he hot? Tell me. Please. Who was he? I heard you guys talking earlier but my eyes won't open up for me so I just listened to your conversation with the doctor and Noah." I know mom can see my excitement because even though I was practically bed-ridden, I was energetic. As if I was never involved in an accident.  I asked mom to describe Noah to me but she wouldn't give me any specific traits. I love my mom, yes. But I do not love her stingy side one bit. Nope, not one bit. I still love her though. She would always tell me to wait and meet the guy in person and not ask her anything. She said it would spoil the guys' appeal. As if that would happen. But I do not protest anymore and just pout. Mom pinched my cheeks when she saw me pout my lips. She loves to do that to me. She told me to go to sleep and that maybe Noah would visit the shack with his father. I listened to her because I also need to rest some more even though I just woke up. I also don't want to disturb dad's sleep. Mom kissed me on the forehead and I said goodnight before closing my eyes. As I started to sleep, my consciousness started to drift to the time I first transformed into a mermaid. I was so scared that time but after that time, I was never scared anymore. I always waited for the new moon to come every month. It's the only time that mom and dad have no choice but to let me swim in the sea because that is the only time that I am forced to be a mermaid. The new moon does that to me. It somehow gives us the defense we need from poachers. Though that doesn't much matter to me. Basking under the light of the stars, my tail glows like starlight under the sea. As the bioluminescent algae also start to glow, my tail does as well. I love swimming in the sea because I could see a very different world from that of the above. It's more beautiful under the sea, but the world is slowly destroying it. That's why I vow to help the oceans by going to a good university and learn more about how to preserve them. Little did I know that going there could also turn my world to ruin with one misstep.
