Getting discharged and meeting a stranger from the past

1054 Words
My dad and I were discharged from the hospital a few days after the accident. The doctor said that I might have a slight concussion from the impact on my right forehead. The wound was small but the bleeding was massive that I needed a blood transfusion at that time. It was my fault that we were discharged a little late because I needed to recover from the blood transfusion and all. You guys might be wondering, what blood type do I have? I'm half-mermaid but whenever I'm in my human form, my blood is no different than any other human in the world. I was happy when we finally got the signal from the doctor that we could both go home. Dad wouldn't leave me in the hospital alone so, he decided to be discharged the same day I did. He also said, "Screw the charges. I'm staying with my baby until she gets discharged as well." And that was the end of it. I think mom fell in love with dad all over again. Anywho, here we are now, in a new car where mom is driving in front while dad and I sit behind her. We were still going to do the prank that we were supposed to do before the accident. Only it's not a prank anymore. Mom was happy to see us like this. As if nothing ever happened to us. Now that I thought about it. "Mom, are we still going to open the shack?" Mom didn't take her eyes off the road but she still answered me. "Yes. We are still opening the shack. Dad can man the cash register while I cook and you wait, like always." I nodded and I continued my conversation with dad. Dad told me that he had already told one of his trusted friends to buy the things that we need for the mini-fireworks and that when we get back, he will help us set them up so we could light them at night. I was daydreaming about the fireworks when dad brought me out of my reverie. "Hey. Daydreaming again? You never change. Exactly why do we need to make the fireworks when we can buy ready-made ones?" I gave him my award-winning grin. Not the good kind of grin. "Because I want to spell something out of the fireworks. So, I need to be the one to make them. Will that be alright?" My dad pretended to think about my plan but smiled afterward. I know that he approved of my plan because he smiled and not frowned, which is a good sign for me. He nodded and he started a conversation with mom. It always ends up like this, them having a conversation and me daydreaming. About what, you ask? Nothing and everything all at once. But, I usually daydream about different guys with different features. Say like, someone with bright green eyes with an olive complexion with a small yet straight nose. Sometimes I even draw them. And every time I do that, they somehow come to life. Like they are normal people that actually exist in the world. But for all we know, they don't exist at all. They only exist in my imagination. I also took into consideration my hobbies when I was choosing my degree but my love for the seas and oceans won over my talent in drawing. So, in the end, I opted to take art classes instead so I could still get to do what I love, and that is drawing. I also paint sometimes but I mostly sketch. enough of that, we already arrived at the house. I can't wait to go to the shack and go back to normal. Mostly, I can't wait to meet Noah. My mom hinted to me that he was a looker but I need to make sure. It was already night by the time we arrived at our house so it's no wonder I was already sleepy. I said that I would sleep ahead of them but mom wouldn't hear of it. She said that I need to eat dinner before going to sleep. "So your body could heal faster, honey. Doctor's orders, remember?" I sighed in defeat and followed them into the kitchen. Dad was using a crutch so he doesn't need to use a wheelchair for locomotion. I helped him sit on a chair at the dining table while we waited for mom to finish cooking dinner. I asked dad if I could get my sketchpad and pencil, he said yes so I went up to my room to get what I needed and went back downstairs before mom noticed I was gone. When I came back downstairs, mom still hasn't finished cooking so I yelled that I will be outside, doing some sketches. Mom said okay, I kissed dad's cheek and went to my usual spot on the beach. Even though it is a bit dark, the moon is shining brightly tonight. It is a full moon after all. I can't wait when it becomes a new moon. I want to feel the waves on my tail again. I want to see the coral reefs come to life at night again. I want to play with the fishes again. I want to race with the fastest sharks on the reef. I was so excited for the new moon to arrive, I ended up drawing the reef the way I see it every new moon. To say I was surprised was an understatement. Hmm, maybe I should put some color on this. It's a good thing I also brought with me my colored pencils of every shade possible. I colored the picture so I could remember the very first night I was allowed to swim during new moons. That was one of my fondest memories of being a mermaid. My parents never made me feel like I am an abomination. They made me feel special because even though I was adopted, they treated me like their very own daughter. And I loved them for that. I was doing the finishing touches on the color of the reef when it was snatched by a stranger that came out of nowhere. I looked at who the stranger is and I was frozen in place.
