Realization
His small army was waiting for him when he emerged from the fortress and mounted his soosh. Osteng bowed his head and gestured at the men accompanying him.
“Thirty men are awaiting your orders,” the captain of the guards remarked.
Egan pulled on the reins. “I didn’t order thirty men.”
Osteng flashed a quick smile. “True, Costell. But when they heard we were going to retrieve the Charm, more volunteered.”
Egan gazed out at the serious expressions on the soldiers’ faces. “I thank you for your dedication. We’re heading to Bein. There will be no stopping until we reach their fortress, which means we’ll be travelling through the night. Costell Carq’s men already have a large lead, but I’m hoping their exhausted soosh will have slowed enough to enable us to catch up
