Chapter 30 Diagnosis Egan hoisted the large, sooshskin vest over his head and settled it across his shoulders. Pican began tying the straps, jerking them tight through the buckles. “Costell?” He glanced up to see another guard standing in the doorway. “Yes?” “The surymander is awake and asking for you.” Egan broke away from the armorer and rushed down the hallway toward his old friend’s chambers. A soldier standing guard at the door opened it for him, and Egan hurried inside. Vacot lay on his bed, his face as pale as the coverlet tucked around him.
