Meeting
They were halfway down the hallway when Genesee stopped and glanced over her shoulder at the guard. “When I first came here, I was brought in through a different way. Take me out that way.”
“It’s faster if we go through the dining hall,” Mur noted.
“That may be, but it’s also possible Carq may have placed another guard or two in there to prevent me from exiting.”
The soldier bobbed his head once and gestured for her to follow. “This way.”
They backtracked to her bedroom door, then continued going in the opposite direction, rounding several corners. At no time did they pass another person, leaving her to wonder how well-staffed the fortress was.
