The Secret She Never Knew

Liam's Hunt

I set in this SUV with these two idiots listening to them argue about what kind of music we should listen to.  Alex of course wants country like always and Aaron wants rap or some crap.  I let out a low growl telling them to shut up.  They both look at me and say sorry we just cannot take the quite like you can.  By the way how much longer until we switch drivers and get gas, we are hungry.   I look at both of them and say, “we have about another 30 miles before we stop.” 

Alex looked at me and said boss got a question for you, “what if we do not find you angel in Maine you cannot avoid going home forever.  What if she does not want to be found?  Your little angel is really causing the pack harm.  They are beginning to mistrust you; you cannot stay away forever.”

I give Alex a look of annoyance before I say I know friend, I am hoping I will find her, and this can be over quickly.  I want to go home I want to be in my bed next to my wife just like you.  I want to be thinking of a future of peace not one of violence I tire of killing old friend.  I never thought I would say those words to you, but I need to find an end to all this.

Alex and Aaron both look at me with bewilderment on their faces as Alex says, “Alpha what has made you this way are you sick.  Do we need to call someone to aid you?  In all my years of knowing you I have never heard you speak of family or a future.  You only ever talk of death and power growing you pack and your territory.  Has this woman really had this much effect on you?  You said you had only ever seen her, that you have never even touched her.  What is wrong are you sure that she did not put some spell on?”

I slam on the breaks and pull over.  I jump out of the SUV and run to the other side and pull Alex out holding him by his throat holding him in the air just because I do not want to kill does not mean that I cannot.  You may be my beta, but you have crossed a line that cannot be uncrossed.  You have spoken ill of someone you have never met not only that, but she is the woman I have spent my whole life waiting for.  I did not even know I was waiting for her; she is a light that I must find to help light my blacken soul.  I shake my head not knowing what has come over me I look at Alex and see the shock in his face. 

He says, “Alpha I meant you no disrespect.  I am just worried that you will lose yourself looking for someone who is hiding.”

“How can I call myself the best if I cannot even find my own Luna, after she has gone and run away.  That in and of itself will make a laughingstock in our world and you know it.”

Aaron says, “the sooner we get there the sooner we can all decide what we are going to do.  If I figured it right, we have about 15 miles then we switch drivers, and the others can rest and eat.  Let’s get this show on the road OK fellas.”

I climb back into the SUV and drive the last of the 15 miles in silence.  Once at the station I fill it up with gas while the boys go inside to pay and get whatever previsions they may need.  I am not hungry or thirsty I just want to get there to find my Luna.  We are driving in case she is there, so we can bring her home.  When the boys come out, they have sacks full of stuff and Alex climbs in the driver seat.  I am in the back while Aaron takes the front and says something that shocks me. “How about I tell you another story of my queen Black.”

I say, “yes, I would love to hear more about her.”

He begins, “ok I will pick one that is funny.  We were setting in her office one day and the sun was starting to set, and it started to rain one of those soft evening rains that come on quickly.  Well anyway, she sees the rain outside and starts giggling.   Sam and I look at her and ask what is so funny she says take me to the roof please.  Sam says why what is up there that you would need.  She looks at us with this little smirk and says take me if you want to find out.  By the way she is very cunning and likes to play pranks and games. So, you should be aware of the trickery that she will play if you ever get to see that part of her. Trust me, no one ever gets hurt but you will be wet or covered in whipped cream from time to time but that is a story for another day.  Anyways, we lead her to the roof just before we opened the door to go on, she stopped and handed us two blind folds.  We looked at her and said never we will never put these on and let you lead us onto a roof.  Her face turned sad she pouted her lips and got big sad puppy dog eyes, which melted Sam and I, so we gave in and put them on.  Once, they were on she lead up onto the roof.  In the middle of the roof she took our hands and placed them in hers.  With our hands all adjoined she started dancing to the Barbie Girl song by Aqua.  We needed the blindfolds because she made us our own personal club on the roof.  She had our wives, some nurses, and other staff members all up there.  It was the sweetest most generous thing anyone has ever done for us.  She new our story and tried to give us something with only love in her heart she is wonderful.  Your darkness Black it is no match for her light I am telling you she can and will bring hope and love to everyone you know.  Even though no one has ever showed her any.  You see that is what I do not understand Sam and I had it hard until it was clear we were going to make great warriors.  I am not dumb I know that is the reason we were plucked out of the orphanage.  Her on the other hand to look at her other than her beauty she has no talent that you can see.  What she lacks in size she makes up for in compassion and caring.  The love she has for everyone else is beyond measure, I am telling you I personal saw people miss treat her.  She still offered them whatever they needed no matter the cost to herself.  She is the most selfless person on earth just being near her makes you want to be a better person.

Alex looked at me and said, “she sounds like a real angel is that why you call her that Alpha.”

I replied, “no, I call her angel because when I hear her speak, all I hear is angels singing to me.  She has the sweetest voice.  It is hard for me to listen to what she is saying because of her voice.”

Aaron said, “but angel is a good name for her Sam calls her little Dr.  She never seemed to mind though, she would just giggle at him and call both of us her superhero’s.”

Alex said, “why superhero’s?”

I reply, “we had to save her more than once from staff that was mean or would call her names because of what she wore or how she had to hide.  People can be very mean to people who are different you need to be ready for that to Alpha Black people are going to be cruel to her.  Do not think she will tell you about it either, that is a secret she will keep to protect the others from your wrath.  She will cry into her pillow at night when she thinks no one is around.  Trust me Sam and I watched it happen many times then we care to admit, it is hard to watch so you will try to stop it but that will only upset her more.  Caring and pleasing others is all she cares about that and healing she loves healing other people.  Watching her heal others puts the biggest smile you will ever see on her face.  Nothing is more satisfying then watching her heal someone, the pleasure she gets from it is compared to nothing I have ever seen before.”

“You really do admire her don’t you.  She is truly an angel like no other, I think she will be wonderful addition to our pack.  I think her medical skills alone will be greatly appreciated and the effect she will have on me will be like nothing anyone else ever has.  I cannot wait to have her in my arms holding her tightly, I will always keep her safe no one will ever get close enough to hurt her again.  I will protect her no matter what she is my angel.”

Alex askes again, “why does Aaron not just connect with his brother.  He should be able to at least feel Sam, the twin bond is supposed to be stronger than a mate bond.”

Aaron says, “it is usually I know everything wrong with him before he does.  He has never been able to shut me out.  I think the queen has accepted him as her guard and that bond is stronger than ours.”

We spent the next 1900 miles switching drivers, eating, and getting fuel when needed.  About a day and a half later we stop, and I say it is my time to drive again.  Sam agrees to stop at the next truck stop to let me take over.  At the next truck stop we fill up the boys take care of there business and I stay in the SUV I never go inside I just piss by the side of the car.  I really have not eaten or drank anything in two days, I just do not feel the need to.  When they get back to the SUV, I say ready to finish this trip boys home is calling us.  They both agree and we take off with our last 237 miles to go.  Clayton Lake, Maine that is the small town with the vet clinic in it. 

Aaron asks, “so how are we going to do this Alpha we cannot just barge in there demanding her to come with us it will never work.  Maybe we should scope out the area before we go in.  Just like you would if you were entering a territory you did not know you would send scouts first.  She has never met Alex he should be the one that goes in and comes back with a report.  We can then decide our plan of approach.”

I look at Aaron and say, “that is a splendid idea we can learn how we need to handle everything if she has any other protection other than you brother.  If she has wolves watching her place too, we should be able to sense them outside.  Now that we have our plan the rest of the ride is fairly quick and quite.  We arrive just outside of town and see that it is very peaceful little place with not much it in.  The time is about 3:30 pm, we pull up down the street from the little shop and Alex gets out to go in.  Sam hands him a burner phone and says my number is programed in call with any information you find.  Alex nods and gets out off the car before he closes the door, I tell him to be careful with the little Dr.  He nods again saying no harm will come to her Alpha I will swear my life on it.

Alex walks in the building and out of sight.  Setting outside Aaron and I are surveying the area and see there are no present or visible dangers.  Now it is a waiting game for Alex and his intel, and I hate waiting there is nothing worse.

Alex’s POV

Before I step foot into this little Vet Clinic, I decide I need pet as a cover.  I walk down the ally and find a lost starving kitten to take inside.  After gathering the kitten, I walk in to find a werewolf standing behind the desk.  I have of course hidden my scent I walk up to the counter and say this little kitten climbed on the underneath side of my car and I wanted to make sure it was ok.  She said oh you poor little thing come here let me have look at you.

This nurse takes the kitten and starts heading back to a patient room and askes if I would like to come.  I decide this is the best way to get the lay out of the building for the Alpha.  Walking down the halls I can see that this is nothing more then a small vet office with nothing all to special about it I can see out every window and down every hall.  There is no place to hide anything here.  Once setting in an exam room the Dr walks in not looking like what the guys have said she would look like.  So, I am not sure if this is who we want then she says, “hi, I am Dr. Casey Kar, but everyone around here calls me Dr C.  How can I help you today?”

So, I tell her that I found this kitten under my car and I just wanted to make sure it was ok.  I know nothing about it and just could not leave an animal out alone with no help.  Not knowing if it was ok.  She looks over the little kitten and says that she does not see anything wrong other than a little malnourishment.  Then, asks what I would like to do with the little animal since I had just found it.  I ask if there was a shelter that I could leave the little one for safety. 

She says, “yes I have a small animal shelter in the back I can keep the little one at until someone wants to take her home.”

I reply, “thanks how much do I owe you, you truly are a good person.  Thank you again for all your help.”

She tells me, “that I do not have to pay for anything.  But thanks for at least bring the little one in.”

I tell her that I would feel bad not paying and offer her $175 for her time at least.”

She takes the money and says thanks again.

I walk out to the SUV and tell the guys we need to find a motel to talk about everything I found.  After driving around, we find a little mom and pop shop motel.  I go in ask for one room with 3 beds even if one of them is a fold out the old woman says ok.  She will have the fold out brought down soon and gives me the key to room 7.  I go back to the SUV and tell Alex our room is at the end of the building.  Liam drives the car down there parks out front and will all go in.  We all get out of the car and head into the room where I lay out what I say. 

I say, “well it is not a very big building there are only 4 exam rooms and one office in the back.  With a small lab up front just as you walk down the exam hall.  She has a nurseeceptionist that is a werewolf she does not look to be more then, a healer wolf but still a wolf.  I could not smell anything special about the doc though.  Her name was Casey Kar though and she went by Dr C too.  Just as I was about to go on there was a knock at the door.  Aaron opened to see a young man with a roll away bed I take the bed and tell the kids thanks, giving him a $20.  The kids took the money and before he left, I asked him about a place to get something to eat.  He tells me about Allies it is up the street and they have fairly decent food, I nod, and he walks away.  I turn in time to see the Alpha wondering what I am up to I tell him that he needs to eat and get cleaned up before he goes to see her.  He needs to look his best and have a full stomach to help me have a better mood.  He goes to disagree until to be stopped by Aaron who agrees saying dude you look rough clean up and get a hot meal.  We will pick up food and get more information for you the clinic does not close for another 2 hours so; we need to find something to keep busy until then.  Liam agrees that would be best we do not want to ruin her business or her reputation.  Since those things are so important to his angel, he does not want to hurt her at any cost.

Lima’s POV

The guys tell me I stink and need to clean myself up I head the bathroom to take a quick shower and eat when they get back.  I jump in the shower stand under the hot water just letting it run down my back drifting away in my own thoughts.  About how in a few short hours I could be with my angel.  Now comes the hard part I am going to have to decide how I am going to get her to love me and come back to Montana with me.  I worry about how I am going to get her to find me interesting.  Am I going to have to force her to come if I do that what will it cost me?  I know forcing her will only make her hate me, but I can not live without her my anger is already getting worse I could have ripped out Alex’s throat the other day.  How do I not let her change me into someone that she will want or need me to be?  No paying attention to what is going on around me I did not hear the guys come back in or the arguing they were doing until I stepped into the room.  I enter the bedroom to see them almost going at one another throats I let out a growl saying what in the hell is going on here.  Both men jump and turn to see me standing there pissed off at that actions.  They both bow their heads to show submission to me I growl again in annoyance tell them to give me my food and to shut up and eat.  They do as they are told and set quickly until it is time to head to the clinic.  It is 4:50 I am starting to get nervous why do I feel like this, what is wrong with me?  I have never been nervous for anything in my life what is this woman doing to me?  Aaron looks at me and says Alpha, “you are sweating are you alright.  Do you need a glass of water or something? You look like you are shiting razor blades.”

I look at Aaron and say I am fine I just need to go get this over with.  I need to see my angel is it time to go.

They look at me and say yes lets head out we think we should walk so we will not look like a group of kidnappers.

I nod in agreement, we cannot scare her, if they think this will make us seem less threating then that is what we will do anything for my angel.  We had out the door down the street to the clinic we all walk in together just as she is about to lock up.  She looks at us with little shock and says she is not here anymore and has not been here in years.  Can we please go upstairs to the apartment and I will tell you what you want to know?  Just do not tear anything up please it upsets her.  We all look at her with a question all over our faces she says come upstairs I will tell you everything.  We slowly follow her upstairs to a very small apartment that is full of things that are clearly not my mates I can feel it.  She said you feel her the strongest out of anyone I have every met.  She is your mate, isn’t she?  I look at her and nod well I have something for you then until you find her again.  She walks to the back of the apartment through a door when she opens the door, I smell my angel.  The next thing I know I am on my knees to weak to stand both of the men with me come to my side asking there what’s and why’s this is happening.  I look at them to weak to lift my head only to have this wolf close the door making the scent fad.  She walks over to me and places a small blanket over my shoulders when I smell the blanket, I smell my angel was this hers did this wolf just give me the gift of my angel.

She looks at me and says this is the only things she left I have kept it safe and close.  In times of need it keeps me safe.  She has always brought me comfort in times of need I think that is why she left it.  I am not the only one you will find with one of those blankets either.  Anyone she has every helped she leaves a blanket so they will always have her embrace.  This will hold you over until you find her, I will tell you the first time you touch her, she will either end you or save you that is something I know for a fact. 

Now on to the tale you have come here for.  I was 13 when she found me in a human orphanage, she knew I was different I was her first scholarship she ever gave,[kb1]  she got me out of the of the hell I called home.  I am guess you can tell I am not human, but she is, and a little more.  I just do not know what that little more is.  She has the ability to heal anyone or anything I mean that she is more then just a regular Dr.  Yes, she practices medicine like others but no one in the world can cure what she can.  She does not live here nor has she ever I have no idea where her home.  I have already contacted her and told her you were here.  She has not nor will her reply to what I have said.  She never answers anything I sent her.  You are not the first ones to come looking nor will you be the last.  She has a lot of people after her all the time and some are scary like yourself, some are just needing help, and others want to cause her harm.  Have I answered all you questions or are their others that you need answered?

I live her in this home in her name and use her name as a cover for people like you.  I am the communicator; I rely all the messages to her and she decides to answer or not. She says, “I can give you the email I have but it will lead to proxy all over the world.  She has made it so you cannot find her electronically I think she wanted to keep it that way.  I know she lives off the gride her home has no power, internet, or running water.  She lives in a place where can live without leaving a trace.  The one and only time I did talk to her, she said her home was a place she could vanish into the earth without being see.  If you are her mate, I hope you find her she deserves to be happy more then anyone I know no one deserves a happy ever after more than her.

We all look at her for a minute and decide to ask a few more questions.  I ask, “first I ask what is your name?  Why are you using my mates name?  How everything gets paid for where does the money come from for everything?”

She replies, “I use the name she told me to use.  You coming here puts you way off her trail, and the only information I give you will lead to a dead end.  Again, this is all her plan, she takes care of everything I pay for nothing.  She takes care of the bill will offshore accounts.  I know everything I am tell you is just making you angry because none of the information I am giving you will help with anything.”

Alex says, “on the contrary you are helping a lot, we now know the lengths she will go to, to keep her secret.  I have a question for you.  What are you plans do you want to do this for the rest of your life?  To leave as someone else or do you have your own dreams?”

She replies, what you do not understand is that this is my dream.  Not living as someone else but being a vet and having my own clinic.  All the money that is paid to the clinic is deposited into a local account then transferred to the overseas accounts, everything is paid, and wages are directly deposited into our accounts.  She told me a long time ago when she set this up to save all the money I earned so when this end, I will have something to start with.  You see I have my own licenses and diploma’s with my real name.  You see she always knew it would end one day she just did not know when or how.”

Aaron says, “what does that mean how could this end badly?”

She always use to worry that one of these visits would end badly for me.  Or she would not be able to save someone from death, which would cause her to meet her end.  I do not think a mate was ever part of that plan I will have to honestly say.  I have learned about my wolf from the teacher at the boarding school.  The minute he found out I was a wolf he started showing me how to live in the human world.  I have no pack if I was to go back, I would be rogue and live a life I do not want to.  Or I can stay where I am be a part of her pack of orphans and be a productive member of society.  I pick the way I am I do not want to live as a rogue ever again.  The fact that there is no way for me to find my way back to my origins upsets me, but I am not crazy or losing my mind.  I have a job, a profession, and a home that is all I need right now.

We all look at her accepting her answers, not happy with them but accepting them.  I looked at her saying thank you right now our rules will not let you come back, but maybe someday that could change.  Thank you for the help that you have given it was not much, but we will accept and go.  We stand to leave, and she says do you have a number that I could give her in case she wants it I do not know what happened to make to leave you.  She might have a change of heart though, so leave me a number for her to use to contact you ok.  I walk to her hand her my number and she jumps up and hugs me saying whatever you do, do not hurt the best mother I never got to have please.  Care for her, let her know I love her and will always be her to support her.

We head out of the clinic back to the motel in silence all pondering what we are going to do next.   When we get back, I look at both of them and say I just want to lay down we will talk in the morning.  They both nod their heads, and we go to bed to let the day’s events soak in.  As I lay there in the bed with a little blanket wrapped next to my head, I decide that I need to find her but, I also need to give her a little time.  I am going to go home and bring Aaron with me we will work from my pack territories to find her and bring her home.
