Someone’s shooting at us!” Jayson cupped his left shoulder with his right hand, struggling to turn his head toward the water. The trio hit the deck. The craft’s triple outboard engines twisted the bright yellow hull up onto the waves. It executed a tight turn and carved a white streak in the blue-green water toward the final moments of the setting sun. Jayson lowered his head to the deck with a thud. Lucy sat up in a crouched position, scanning Jayson with wide eyes. Blood seeped out from between his fingers. “Jayson! You’ve been shot.” “It’s just a scratch,” he said, rolling over onto his back. He screamed at the dimming sky. “Now I’m really pissed!”
