Tina blasted her horn to clear a way through onlookers who were blocking the end of the short drive. Through her windscreen she spotted Audrey’s frail figure hobbling towards her; bare skin showing through burnt clothes and black soot around her mouth and nose. Leaving her door open and her treasured car unlocked, Tina rushed to help Audrey and was astounded by the blast of heat from the roaring flames. ‘Audrey, it’s Tina.’ She placed her arm carefully around Audrey’s shoulder and guided her to the Golf. She opened the passenger door and eased Audrey in, not bothering with the seat belt, anxious not to inflict further pain.
