CHAPTER FORTY-SIX The train pulled out of Undermere railway station, and Audrey sat back in the first class carriage. She had chosen a table seat as she didn’t want people to see her sitting with her legs not quite touching. Tender skin rubbing against tender skin was still painful, so keeping cool air circulating was essential. As the train headed south, the view through the window of the bleak and beautiful moorland countryside brought tears to her eyes, which surprised her. She leaned back against the seat, resting her head, and tried to clear her mind. Instinctively, she went to feel for her wedding ring and remembered it had come off and dropped between the floorboards in the boarding house – now gone for good.
