Margaret thought that her husband, their alpha, would never die, but the mysterious death of the pack's main leader led to an upheaval in Margaret's life. Margaret does not believe that Bjorn killed himself as the pack thinks he did and she is determined to find out what happened. Navigating the dangerous landscape of pack politics, she must come to terms with her own turbulent emotions regarding her loyalty to her late husband and pack loyalty. At the same time, the beta of the pack, who could easily be her father, wants to take over as alpha and have Margaret as his mate. But then she employs the lone wolf Victor to help with her search but unknown to her, Victor is the descendant of a very powerful alpha from a pack allied to her's who was separated from his father as an infant when his mother fled and died in the woods. With him charming his way into her heart, it distracts Margaret from how different he is... Little does she know Victor is harbouring a secret agenda that can only be fulfilled by charming her, Margaret into giving him control over the wealth her late husband left her. She then begins to struggle with the idea of betraying her late husband and falling for Victor But can she trust him or will he be the one thing that tears her heart apart? Will she retain power over her pack? Can she find the truth and love again, or will a glimmer of freedom cause such trouble with her pack and Victor that everything is destroyed?

The funeral
It's always been difficult for a widow to live peacefully while being surrounded by people who do not really care but pretend to in the hope of getting favors. This has been the case of Margaret Saint James who at the young age of twenty four, lost her husband and mate Bjorn Saint James to a supposed suicide but despite her belief that her husband didn't commit suicide, his suicide note did not do anything to help her case. As she stared at her vanity mirror while a professional make up artist applied make up on her face, she couldn't help but miss her husband. "I'm done Luna, and you look absolutely beautiful." The artist who's name was Kate said with a smile. "How I look is not important, today is the burial of my husband. Looking beautiful is the last thing on my mind." Margaret replied sadly as tears streamed down her face. "I'm sorry Luna, I didn't mean to….." "It's alright," Margaret said cutting her off. "You didn't say anything wrong and I feel I've known you long enough for you to stil refer to me as Luna don't you think? What do you think Grace?" She asked as she turned to her personal maid who had been quiet. "My Luna, it will be silly and disrespectful of me to refer you by your name so you'll have to forgive me." Grace replied taking two steps forward. "What about my lady?" Kate quipped. It's classy enough right? "What do you think Grace?" Margaret asked. "I think that will be ok my lady" "Thank you." Margaret said with a grateful smile. "I'm here to serve you my lady." Grace responded with a bow. "Shouldn't we be on our way to the gathering?" Kate chimed in. We do have to get to there in time for the burial rites." "Without my lady, they wouldn't dare to conduct the burial rites." Grace said with a righteous expression on her face. Margaret giggled slightly with her hands covering her mouth. “The people in the pack would not like to hear that.” She said, Grace shrugged nonchalantly, “I am sorry my lady,” she replied. “But I can't stand the thought of all these people pretending to care about you when they are all here for our late master's will to be read so they can see what they get”. She added with rage colouring her features. Margaret shook her head with a tired smile on her lips before standing up, “it doesn't really matter,” she replied. “They are waiting for me and I have to be there.” She replied. Turning to Kate, she continued, “thank you for your services,” “You are welcome miss,” Kate replied. “And my condolences.” Margaret waved her left hand nonchalantly, “its fine,” she replied. “You can go now.” Turning around, Kate walked out of the room with grace in tow. Getting to the carriageway, she got into her car with Grace going in after her. “Are we off to the gathering ma'am?” her driver Samuel asked as he turned back to look at her through the partition in the limousine. “Yes please.” She replied. “And do not drive fast.” She added. “Why ma'am?” The driver asked with a raised eyebrow. “Just do it ok.” She said with a tired voice. “I want to have as much time to myself before I have to look at these people with their crocodile tears.” She added as she stretched on the sofa. “Of course ma'am.” The driver replied, turning to start the car's engine. “Also, can you raise the partition?” She asked. “I'll do that.” He replied. Once it was raised, Margaret turned to Grace with a serious expression. “Did you contact anyone?” She asked. “Of course I did my lady.”; Grace replied with a nod of her head. “But are you sure this is the right thing to do?” She asked. “I am one hundred percent certain my husband was murdered and I need to find out who it is.” Margaret replied. Grace sighed in exhaustion as she pulled out a tablet from a briefcase she kept beside her. “These are the people I contacted.” She said pointing to the pictures of nine different people arranged in a grid on the tablet's screen. “You said you wanted someone that will help you in investigating your husband's death while protecting you right?” She asked. Margaret nodded her head in affirmation, “I did say that.” She replied. “Are these the ones you found?” She asked, peering down at the tablet. “Yes,” Grace replied before clicking on the first picture of a stern faced woman with brown hair in her thirties. “This is Anna Markovic. She is Russian and served with the KGB until she ran away after leaking some state secrets to the U.S.” “So she's a snitch?” Margaret asked with a raised eyebrow. “Well…” Grace said scrunching up her face. “I won't exactly call her that since it was later discovered that she was working undercover for the U.S government.” “That's ridiculous.” Margaret said with a frown. “Why will a Russian work for a foreign country?” She asked with a frown. “I have no idea my lady.” Grace said with a shake of her head. “Well, we are not taking her.” She replied with a shake of her head. “She is shady as hell and might air our secrets in the open.” “But she has a reputation for getting the job done.” Grace added in an attempt to persuade Margaret. “I don't care.” Margaret replied. “Who's the next one?” She asked. Grace sighed before clicking on the next picture which showed a picture of a middle aged man with a scar running down the side of his face. “This guy looks like someone that will knife me in my sleep.” Margaret said, suppressing a shiver. “Why is he on your shortlist again?” She asked, raising her head to glance at Grace. “You wanted someone that will protect you while investigating so he fit the criteria.” Grace replied with a shrug. “That doesn't mean you'll look for people that look like they hate the world.” Margaret said in frustration. “In fact, give me that!” She said, snatching the tablet out of Grace's hands before going through the rest of the candidates herself. “All these people look dangerous so why pick them?” She asked as her eyes read through their profiles. “They are all either shady or are the type of people I wouldn't want near me. I mean, take a look at this last one, he's so…oh…” she paused as her eyes rested on the face of a man on the screen.
