And they knew that he had been put on leave because of me.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were f*****g him?” Mel demanded.
“Because I wasn’t! Nothing ever happened, Mel!”
“Then why are the police involved and why did his wife leave?”
“Because…I don’t know! Everyone kept saying he was inappropriate and telling me I could be honest, but I was! He never touched me like that. He was the only teacher who thought I could be something.”
“Because he liked you. Teachers don’t take that kind of interest if they’re not…you know?”
I shook my head. “It’s not like that, it never was!”
“Well, everyone says something did happen. And you guys did spend a lot of time together.” Mel whispered. “I mean rumors were already floating around.”
