Chapter 26: Love Defies It All

Everyone is upset and seems devastated. We are all dumbfounded when we read those words.

What my gut feeling says is true because the shadow I saw last time is indeed Samael. I am very nervous and scared. Why did he show up to me? Out of all the people in the world, why me?

And in my vision, it seems he always wanted to kill me. But then, whenever he tried it, I always woke up in a different time and place like my body is trying to protect itself from him.

"Ainsley, stop thinking about it", Azrael whispered to me and gave me a glass of orange juice which I drank.

I shook my head at him. "Samael wants to kill me. But why? I didn't do anything wrong to him and I am not that special to caught his attention."

Azrael seriously stared at me. "You are special. Don't you remember that you are the bridge?", Azrael reminded me.

Denzel stood up when he heard what Azrael said and looked at me. "You are the bridge ?!", he asked and I just nodded quickly. Does he really need to shout when we are just one and a half meter away from each other?

He approached me but I also backed away from him. "What are you doing?", I asked him.

Azrael pulled Denzel away from me. "You are so excited. Don't bother her", he said to Denzel.

Denzel just then smiled at me and went back to his seat.

The next day, Jayden and I went to the station. It was too quiet because they said the chief was very angry.

Maybe Azrael erased his memory and he was angry when he saw that the angel he chained was now gone.

We went straight to my office and get some of our important documents before leaving and went straight to the main branch.

"Are you sure they will let us in?", I asked Jayden but he just smiled at me.

"I have so many connections inside. We can pull some strings to finish it right away", he replied to me.

As we entered the fancy building, I noticed a woman who looked like she had just finished crying and was sitting in the waiting area.

Everyone passing by is looking at her. It maybe because of her bruises that wasn't healed nor covered up.

I let Jayden enter the office while I approached the woman.

"Hello?", I greeted her but she just looked at me lifelessly.

I leaned over her and looked at the place she was staring at. It was the room where Jayden just entered earlier. Why is she looking at it?

"Do you also have a case to file?", I asked her and she nodded.

"But they would not want to take it because of the background of the man I want to be imprisoned", she replied to me.

I looked at the file in her hands and noticed that it was a case for a police in our branch. "You want to file a case of k********g and the suspect is a police?", I asked her.

"Yes, how about you? I saw your boyfriend entered that room with a file", she asked me back.

Wait what? Jayden? As my boyfriend?

"No, no, he is not my boyfriend. We are just here to file a serial murder case", I replied.

She looked at me confused. "There is a serial killer lurking around?", she asked me and I nodded.

"Yes there is and we want him to be punished", I replied to her.

I noticed a cut in her right hand that was like made by a sharp blade. "What happened to that?", I asked while pointing at her hand.

"Oh this happened days ago when my boyfriend got kidn*pped", she answered.

I stared at it and it seems like it was trying to go deep and it still didn't healed eventhough days had passed.

"Can I see it?", I asked and she just gave me her hand willingly.

When I held his hand, a vision suddenly appeared.

"Natasha!", I shouted while looking everywhere with a flashlight in my hands. The whole place was very dark and all you could hear were the sounds of crickets and us shouting.

"Still nothing?", Jayden asked as he approached me.

I shook my head. "We need to find her before that necromancer does", I command Jayden but I know he knows that too.

I heard my phone rings. I look at the caller and it was Azrael.

"What is it? Have you seen her?", I asked Azrael after I answered the call.

"Ainsley, she is dead", he answered that made me stunned.

Suddenly, things started to change. The whole place seemed to be into a different part of the forest.

I am now running into the forest even if I don't know who is chasing me. What is going on again?

"You can't run from me, Natasha. I will get your soul in exchange for the demon I am trying to resurrect", I heard a familiar voice said. Mr. Gregorio? Wait, I was in Natasha's body?

I run and run until I reached a dead end.

"Now, you have no way out", the chief said before all went dark again.

"Hey miss? Are you okay?"

I looked at the woman in front of me and I noticed that I was still holding her hand.

"U-uhm, yes. I-I am okay", I replied nervously.

I put my hands back in my pocket and stayed silent.

What is that vision? And who the hell is Natasha? What is her connection to this woman? And why we all seemed to be bothered about it?

I then saw Jayden came out on the room. He look everywhere like he was finding someone until he saw me at the waiting area. He immediately run into me.

"Ainsley, they said they will capture the chief now. Want to come?", Jayden asked me excitedly. He really have this adrenaline rush whenever a bad guy will be catched.

"Chief? You mean the chief of Metropolitan 3 station?", the woman beside me asked.

Jayden look at me like he was asking if who is this person beside me but I just gave him my 'i-don't-know' look.

"O-oh, I am sorry I forgot to introduce myself. I am Natasha and I was also here to file a case for the chief of the metropolitan 3 station", the woman answered.

I felt my heart stopped for a moment. She is Natasha?!

Jayden seems to notice me being bothered about what Natasha said. He let Natasha join us to the station with a unit from the main branch to capture Mr. Gregorio.

We all stayed quiet on our way but Natasha seems tense and at the same time excited that the chief was now going to be captured.

"Why do you seem to be so bothered about her?", Jayden whispered to me.

I sighed. "I saw her death", I answered silently to Jayden but was enough for him to hear and understand why I am quite tense eversince we entered the van.

The van stopped in front of the station. We all went out of the car.

I saw some of our co-workers who are confused what was happening while some are shocked when they found out. Well, who wouldn't be shocked when you found out that your boss is a serial killer?

The unit searched the entire area but they couldn't find any trace of the chief even at his secret hiding room in his office. Where does that murderer hide?

Natasha seemed be sad when the unit said that they didn't find anything into the secret room. Why is she looking for Denzel? Does she knew him?

Later on, I saw Azrael and the other walk towards us. He was with Denzel whose face was enlightened when he saw Natasha.

"Natasha?", Denzel said while looking at the woman beside me.

Natasha immediately look back and tears started to fell on her cheeks when she noticed the man who called her name. "D-Denzel."

The two hugged each other as they reunite.

I quickly went to Azrael. "Hey angel", I called him.

He raised his eyebrows to me. "What did you just called me? I know we are close but don't you know the word 'respect'?", he asked me sarcastically.

I chuckled. "Do you think you are a man that needs to be respected?", I asked him back that made him glare at me.

"I am an angel. Angel of Death to be specific", he insisted and pointed at his status.

"So, what do you want?", he asked me. "I know there is something going on and I know you need my help but the thing is, I couldn't read what is that thing. You seem to finally manipulate your thoughts."

I didn't answered him and just sighed and stared at Denzel and Natasha before answering his question. "I want to stop her death."

I look back at Azrael who is now staring at me as if I just said my first word. "Why? You only knew them for days and you are already attached to them?"

"Don't you also want that stupid rule of yours to abolished? I want to stop her death to give them a happy ending", I started to explained. He listened to me and I know he also want to demolish their own rules. Those stupid rules about forbidden love is so old.

Everyone is already civilized and have their own will to do anything they want, including loving the man or woman they truly love and wish for a happy ending.

"I know a human can't always escape her death but I know that even if Natasha will be reincarnated, Denzel will always find her."

"Then why can't she die if you already know that Denzel will always find Natasha?"

I sighed. "Because if she die in the hands of a necromancer, that necromancer will steal her soul and use it in exchange for someone who wants to be resurrected. Just like what happened to Samael. Both of my parents didn't live in peace nor reincarnated because they are trapped on Samael's soul", I irritatedly explained. He already knew about this but why he kept asking for more.

I heard Azrael chuckled. "Okay, okay. Fine, I'll try to stop her from her death but you owe me this one", he told me and offer his hands in front of me.

I wish he wouldn't think of any way to toruture me. "Fine but don't make me stand on the sun for a day or kneel on some legume for hours", I said before we shaked hands.

The search concluded that Mr. Gregorio became a wanted serial killer and there's a huge money that will be given to whoever could tell the polices his whereabouts.

We all go back to our meeting place. Natasha's possible death was only between me and Azrael. Since I couldn't say anything about it to anyone except the angel of death himself, I can only keep an eye to Natasha secretly.

"You look like a random stalker while looking at her."

I was startled when Azrael seated in front of me when I was busy staring at Natasha.

"What is it? I am monitoring, okay?"

Azrael chuckled. "Monitoring? You seemed like a crazy stalker or someone who wants her dead."

"You know I want the opposite", I told him.

"But stop staring at her", Azrael commanded me and I just rolled my eyes. As if he can stop me from doing so.

I was about to monitor them again when Denzel suddenly stood up, so is Natasha. "We will just unwind for a minute", Denzel said to us while holding Natasha's hand. Is this it? This is where the things go bad.

"Okay, take care. And don't go further, you know Mr. Gregorio was still lurking around somewhere", Elinora reminded them while she cooks our dinner.

"B-be careful", Elvis said to them and her mom just smiled and pinch her son's cheeks.

"We will, Elvis", Natasha answered before bidding goodbye.

Azrael and I look at each other. He nodded at me and I know that is my cue.

"Uhm, guys. I will buy some snacks later for our movie night, who wants to come?", I asked them.

Jayden and Azrael raised their hands. Jayden looked at Azrael. "Whoa, that's new."

Azrael stared at me. Okay, I already knew what that look means.

"Okay, okay. Azrael, come with me", I said that made Jayden seemed to be sad.

"Buy some oranges! Lots of oranges!", Madison shouted as we started to get our shoes.

"Okay!", I shouted back at her before I open the door and went outside.

Azrael walk beside me. "Where do you think are they?", he asked me. "Do you remember the place Natasha is running?"

I then recalled my vision earlier. "It was a forest. And a very dark one", I answered. "Oh god, I forgot to bring a flashlight", I said when I remember that I was holding a flashlight at that time because of the very eerie and dark place of it.

I was about to go back to the house when Azrael stopped me. "Don't. They might tell that something was up if you go back just to get a flashlight."

"So, what now?", I asked him.

"Just buy it on the store", he said and pulled me into the nearby store.

We all looked at all displayed flashlights of them but one kind caught my attention. It is so similar to the one I brought on my vision.

"Get that", he said and went directly to the counter to pay. I immediately catch up on him and let him pay the flashlight I grabbed.

We went straight at the forest but we only see Denzel on the front gate of a park, unconscious. Then a loud scream echoed.
