Marrying a man she had known for less than a day had already pushed Ami past her breaking point.
Now Lorcan expected her to embrace cloying terms like husband and wife, something she simply could not bring herself to do.
When she knew she could not manage something, she never forced herself.
Ami stared fixedly at Lorcan. She could not help wondering. Had he not claimed he maintained rigid standards when it came to women? Yet only moments ago, he had held her hand and tapped her forehead…
Were those gestures not reserved exclusively for deeply intimate lovers? Still, he had carried them out with effortless naturalness.
She had no idea how to voice her confusion.
She lacked the boldness to outright question why a man with such strict boundaries toward women would hold her hand. Who could predict what shameless, heart-fluttering words he might fire back—this prideful man was fully capable of it.
Lorcan watched the young woman crease her brows, well aware she still guarded herself against him. He sighed softly, helpless. “Yien, we are already married.”
He paused and lifted the red marriage certificate in his hand. “Whether I call you Yien or wife, it is merely a title, is it not? We are legally married now. You need to grow accustomed to it. As for you…”
“I will not pressure you to call me husband for the time being. But I no longer wish to hear you address me as Third Young Master Lorcan, or simply Lorcan. I am giving you two choices: honey, or Lor.”
Ami pressed a hand to her forehead as she looked at the man whose beauty rivaled that of a devil. His star-bright eyes locked onto hers, dead-serious over nothing more than a matter of names.
Someone ought to remind him that this was hardly the fearsome Third Young Master Lorcan whose slightest shift sent tremors rippling through all of S City.
This could not be him.
They were hardly acquainted. Rumor painted him as aloof and unyielding, so why was he being so warm toward her? They had met barely half a day ago.
When she remained silent for far too long, Lorcan tightened his grip around her hand, his gaze deepening by the second.
“Mm…” The pressure stung, and Ami let out an involuntary small gasp. Thin mist instantly clouded her limpid eyes.
She lifted her gaze to glare furiously at him. Yet the sharp retort forming on her lips died the instant she met his imposing stare.
This man was terrifying. At first glance, he seemed like a harmless gentleman, yet the more time she spent with him, the clearer his danger became. This domineering side of him had revealed itself to her for the second time.
“Lor…”
Her voice was faint and delicate, yet Lorcan caught every syllable. He released her hand and tapped her forehead swiftly.
A gorgeous smile curved his thin lips, sparked by her reluctant compliance. “Get in the car. I’m taking you for dinner.”
Seated in the passenger seat, Ami stared blankly at the red marriage certificate clutched in her hands. Inside her mind, she silently berated Lorcan—a hypocrite, outwardly gentle and courteous yet cunning and overbearing beneath the surface.
He had resorted to force to pressure her, and she would not forget this slight.
The vehicle pulled up outside Scenic Splendor.
Scenic Splendor was a restaurant under the Scenic Group. Ami had heard of the brand before. It ranked among China’s most prominent hotel conglomerates, with businesses spanning catering, entertainment, tourism and more.
The moment Lorcan stepped into Scenic Splendor, hand in hand with Ami, every gaze in the room swiveled toward them.
Ami kept her head lowered, hoping to slip unnoticed past everyone. Unfortunately, her striking beauty made that impossible. Even without makeup, she outshone countless celebrities.
And the man beside her was incomparably outstanding.
He wore a tailored white suit over a black dress shirt. He had undone his bow tie amid the warmth, leaving the collar casually unbuttoned.
He moved like royalty, innate grace flowing through every gesture, impossible to look away from.
A server led them straight to a private booth. Clearly, Lorcan dined here often. For someone of his status, securing a private room at Scenic Splendor—where reservations were mandatory—was hardly surprising.
Wealth afforded him such privileges. As Ami scanned the menu, she quickly marked several of the priciest dishes, paying no mind to whether she would enjoy them. She fixed Lorcan with a stern glare. She needed an outlet for her irritation after his coercion earlier.
Lorcan watched her with an amused half-smile, as if saying, Money is no object to me.
Ami’s anger fizzled instantly. She turned her head away, refusing to meet his eyes. After a stiff moment, she abruptly stood up. “I’m heading to the restroom.”
“Shall I show you the way?” Lorcan arched an eyebrow, drinking in the sight of her tantrum, amusement glinting within his star-like eyes.
“No.” She gritted her teeth and stormed off without glancing back.
As she washed her hands at the restroom sink, Ami caught sight of a woman entering through the mirror.
