Ami, a top medical PhD, is calm and rational, devoting herself wholeheartedly to medicine.

To resolve her family’s crisis, she agrees to a two-year contract marriage with Lorcan.

She thinks this marriage is merely a cold transaction — a marriage certificate, mutual non-interference, and an amicable separation when the term ends.

She never imagined the contract she signed would awaken a dormant beast.

Lorcan, the Third Young Master who wields power over both the legitimate and underworld spheres, is wild, ruthless and aloof. He harbors an almost morbid aversion to women and never allows anyone to get close to him.

Only when it comes to Ami does he close in step by step, determined to possess her.

In the heat of an argument, he holds her fast, his tone shameless and domineering:

“We are legally married. It is only right that I have you.”

Before the two-year contract expires, he has torn up every clause of their agreement.

His intense, obsessive love surges forth, threatening to engulf her completely.

Overwhelmed by suffocation, the brilliant doctor chooses to run away.

Thus begins the chase: she flees, and he pursues relentlessly.

Everyone knows Lorcan is untamable and cold. Few realize all his indulgence, extreme favor and wild devotion belong solely to Ami.

The world believes this is nothing more than a temporary deal. Only Lorcan understands — he has never wanted just two years.

He wants her, for the rest of his life.

Chapter 1:This was no ordinary little boy.
Sweltering summer heat blazed beneath a scorching sun. It was high noon inside the emergency staff lounge of S City s Hospital. Ami had grabbed a quick meal at the hospital cafeteria and just settled down to rest her eyes when her phone shrilled abruptly. The second she glanced at the caller ID, her delicate brows drew tight. She hesitated for a heartbeat, then slid to answer. She held the phone to her ear but said nothing. Silence lingered on the other end of the line as well. After nearly fifteen taut seconds of dead air, she parted her lips and spoke in a frigid tone. “What do you want?” Something was said on the other side. Her face paled instantly, and her voice turned icier still. “I understand. I’ll be there tomorrow.” She hung up sharply. The whole call wrapped within thirty seconds, more than half of that time consumed by oppressive silence. Her hand clutched the phone tight against her chest, trembling faintly. Her brows remained knotted, her gaze adrift. Anyone could see she was unraveling with nervous tension. Knock knock. Two soft raps echoed at the door. Ami snapped back to reality. She set the phone down on the table, drew a slow breath to steady herself, and smoothed away every trace of her agitation. “Come in,” she said coolly. The doorknob twisted gently, and Assistant Xiao Ling stumbled inside, breathless. “What is it?” Ami lifted her gaze. Noticing the flush on the girl’s cheeks and her obvious urgency, her brows creased again. “Xiao Ling, as a resident assistant, you still haven’t learned to rein in your emotions.” Xiaoling ducked her head sheepishly, undeterred by the sharp edge in her tone. Everyone in the department knew Dr. Ami possessed breathtaking beauty, yet carried an aloof, frigid temperament, distant toward every person she met. But those who worked beside her long enough learned the truth: beneath that icy shell beat a warm heart. “Is there an emergency in the ER?” Ami caught her trailing off into a daze and prompted. Xiaoling jolted back to focus and hurried forward two steps. “Dr.Ami , a tricky patient just arrived in Emergency. Dr. Tong, who was supposed to cover the shift, came down with sudden stomach trouble and ran to the restroom again…” Scenarios like this were far from unprecedented. Ignoring the rest of her assistant’s rambling, Ami quickly slipped on her white coat and headed for the doorway. Xiaoling hurried after her, quickly briefing her on the patient’s condition as they walked. When they reached the emergency room entrance, Ami spotted two men in tailored black suits and dark sunglasses standing guard outside. A cold, imposing aura rolled off them—private security detail for some wealthy family, she surmised. She frowned and spoke plainly. “Please step aside. You’re blocking the emergency room doorway.” She harbored no urge to prove she feared no power; she simply disliked the obstruction, nothing more. The two men exchanged a glance, then resumed staring straight ahead, plainly uninterested in acknowledging the young doctor. Just then, a frail childish voice drifted out from inside the ER. “Ao, Yi. Do as Dr. Ami says. Move out of the way. Don’t block the entrance.” The tone was soft and sugary, unmistakably belonging to a child no older than five. Yet it carried an unshakable authority that brooked no argument. Ao and Yi bowed respectfully. “Yes, young master.” They darted a nervous glance toward the room before stepping away from the doorway. Ami stood there, momentarily stunned. Though merely hired bodyguards, their genuine deference and concern toward the child inside was plain to see—nothing like the stiff, detached professionalism of ordinary security. To command such sincere respect from two grown men… this little boy was no ordinary child. She shook the thought away lightly. Whether he was extraordinary or not was none of her concern; she was only his temporary attending physician. She stepped into the room and began her routine introduction. “I am your attending doctor, Ami—” “Ami. Dr. Ami.” The honeyed young voice cut her off mid-sentence. Ami lifted her head toward the small figure on the hospital bed, thoroughly surprised. “Heard Assistant Zuo mention your last name Ami a little while ago. Then the second you stepped in front of me, I spotted your name printed on your ID badge.” He spoke at an unhurried cadence, his tone soft and sweet, wonderfully pleasant to listen to. In only a handful of words, he cleared up a small detail most adults would overlook entirely. The boy possessed an extraordinary memory. His power of observation, reasoning skills and perceptiveness outshone the average grown adult—not to mention other children his age; there was simply no comparison. Ami picked up the medical chart in her hands and glanced between the paperwork and the small figure resting on the hospital bed. He was indeed only five years old. His complexion was unnaturally pale, his lips drained of all color. White gauze was tucked inside one nostril, with fresh blood threatening to seep through the dressing. A laceration sliced across his forehead. Though it had already been bandaged, traces of blood still leaked out from beneath the wrap. He looked terribly frail, yet his eyes remained dark, bright and vividly alert. Even with the injuries marring his face, it was easy to tell he would grow into a strikingly handsome boy. From what the chart indicated, he might be suffering from a blood disorder. She would have to wait for the lab results to know for certain.
