CHAPTER 9
Zara's POV
We haven't seen each other in week, not until he bashed into my room the other night.
I've actually been avoiding him. I don't come out till he leaves in the mornings and go up my room before he comes in the night. The reason for this. I don't know. It was the way his presence made me feel uneasy.
I'm to meet his father today at a huge party. I've never been to a party before. I could already picture how awkward and out of place I would be. I sat in front of the mirror brushing my hair.
My hand came to my collarbone caressing the bruise there. I could still feel his hand there, he has a kinda effect on me. I covered the bruise with makeup.
I wore a long black dress,my shoulders were open, silver heels and earrings. I carried a channel bag that matches with the outfit. I let my hair down to one side.
I came out the room and met him downstairs looking dashing as always. His back to me, a phone to his ear. My heart beating fast. He had this cold air around him, Which makes me flinch when ever he's close.
He turns around. Eyes on me, not moving. We stood still, gaze on each other not saying anything. We were interrupted by Enzo who told us the car was ready.
He clears his throat and walked away, going outside towards the car, I followed him, walked behind him slowly.
The ride to the party was quiet. I silently took glances at him, caught him staring once, our eyes met and I shyly looked away, kept my gaze towards the window but he didn't I could still feel his eyes on me.
The car came to a halt. “We're here” I said to no one in particular. I took a deep breath got out the car, he suddenly appeared by my side, extending his arm, I looked at him “nothing can go wrong” he said to me leading me in.
All eyes were on him, us immediately we got in. The lights were bright. The hall was decorated elegantly, ladies in dresses, men in suits.
You could tell it was a party for the rich. A man approached us “Mr.Voss, it's nice to see you, who's the fine damsel you have there” he asked.
“My fiancee” he answered. They both exchanged a few words, just before others came and surrounded us. They were talking, saying things I didn't understand or maybe I didn't just want to.
My hand still round his arm. I've been standing for quite a while and my feet hurts already. I've never been on heels for this long. I didn't even have heel back home or the time or place to wear them.I hope the conversations ends so we go sit but it doesn't just when I think it would others keep coming and coming “Mr. Voss” “Mr. Voss” here and there was the only thing I kept hearing. How he was speaking to all of them at once I didn't know.
I could feel my legs trembling, and I had to keep smiling and saying “Hi, nice to meet you too” to people who noticed me enough to talk to me.
The pain was getting too much. I leaned towards him now with both hands round his arm. I tighted my grip, and he seemed to noticed.
He ended the conversations and led me to a round table at the front where we met a man and a woman who looked a bit older than me.
“Dad” he called the man to get his attention, the man turns his head to him. “You're here, for a second there I thought you weren't coming” he looks at me silently asking who I was. “She's my fiancee” he pulled out a sit urging me to sit and took his sit next to me.
He continued “it's going to be a small wedding, pretty quick so I want you ass off my shipping routes” he said to the man he called his father.
“I thought you didn't want to get married guess the shipping routes did the trick” he said laughing. He turns to me “hey beautiful” now his voice sounds sweeter and softer than his voice talking to his son. I smiled at him, he stretched his hand for my hand, I gave him and he placed a kiss on it. I flinched, he laughed saying “ an innocent one you got here boy” he went on to ask about my surname and family but was rudely cut off by his son “who she is and where she comes from is none of your business, your only business is me getting married” things became heated between the father and son tho they kept their voices low.
The lady by the side—-- the step mom I guess came towards me “let's excuse this gentlemen” she said smiling. She looked kind, very pretty. A part of me was relieved cause I was so uncomfortable at the table. We got drinks from the waiters serving then went to an end where other ladies were she introduced me to the other ladies and we got talking. They were mostly talking about places they've travelled to, event and social gatherings they attended, limited luxury goods they acquired, lots and lots of stuff, I just stood there laughing and pretending to belong even tho I felt really out of place and wished the day would come to an end quickly. Step– mom was called by another lady and she left me there. All alone.
I was suddenly put on the spot when the ladies asked me about my marriage to Damien, how we met and what family I was from. I didn't know what to say but I certainly couldn't say our marriage is contractual or I was bought. I froze.
I was saved my a handsome young man who came forward “Hey ladies” he said and got all the ladies attention, I let out a breath. The ladies were now focused on him. The discussions went on for awhile when he said “Hey your glass is emptied let's go over there and get a refill” he led me away from the ladies.
I got another glass of wine. “I'm Roman” he introduced himself. “I'm Zara, Zara Vale” I said.
“You have a beautiful name, just like you”. I smiled. “I saw you completely froze back there” he took another glass of wine, “you saw that” I said laughing “yea I did” we both laughed. We continued talking and laughing this man in front of me was nothing like Damien. He was cool, easy to talk with, he had a friendly air around him that calms you down and I was completely calm.
