CHAPTER 10
Damien's POV
My father and I had a little argument, like we always do but we were careful not to humiliate our selves at the charity event.
Some business partners cames towards me – us and the argument died. We were now talking business. We talked for awhile before They finally left. I was still seated on my phone, old Voss’s wife walked towards him, I looked behind her and I didn't see her. “Where is she” I asked.
“Ohh she should be around making friends” she said smiling joyfully to the silly jokes old Voss was telling her.
I scanned around the hall. Didn't see her. I stood up looked around still didn't see her “where the hell has she wandered off to” I thought to myself.
I walked around the hall searching for her, she was with a group of ladies — smiling. Just when I was about to walk towards her, jasmine a lady I had something with, few years back blocked my path, she insisted we talk “let's catch up” she said.
We started talking or rather she was talking, I was very much just listening, I took quick glances at the end where she was. She looked uncomfortable.
“Come lemme show you the painting I'm donating” jasmine said leading me to a corner where paintings were placed. It was a popular painting worth millions. The painting depicts harmony. “Why are you showing me this” I got straight to the point. “Let's patch things up” she held my arms.
“Too late, I'm getting married” she was surprised, she laughed thinking I was joking but I was not.
I proceeded back into the middle of the hall, she followed suit saying stuff I wasn't listening to. I looked at the direction I last saw her but she wasn't there. “Where the hell is she” I looked around and sighted her far end with a guy—no other than Roman my rival.
I was about to walk away but got hold back by jasmine “where are you off to, we haven't finished our conversation you—--” I cut her off before she could say “I'm going to get my wife” I walked away.
There she was laughing with all her being, first time seeing her laugh, she was beautiful and had a very beautiful smile. I was filled with anger my chest was tight.
I didn't know the reason for my anger maybe because she was talking and laughing with Roman or maybe I was just jealous. I refused to agree to the latter.
I walked towards her from behind, she was so engrossed in her conversation, Roman saw me, he smiled. I knew what that smile meant. He whispered something in her ear to make her laugh she whispered in his too. I hastened my steps I got to her, placed my hand around her waist and placed my lips on her shoulder. I wanted him to know she was mine. He couldn't steal her.
She flinch, turned around me her cheeks red. She didn't say a word rather the laughter left her face.
I noticed she had 6 to 8 glasses of emptied wine glasses close to the table they stood, before it was cleared by the waiters.
“Hey Voss” he greeted me like we had no beef between us. That's how he is—a snake, always pretending. I didn't answer him rather gave him a cold stare.
“I don't remember us being friends Roman”
He laughs “always so serious, if this is about your goods, you got them back didn't you” he said.
“If this was not an event I would have ripped you apart” I said to him. He smiled, a smile I hated, a smile I wanted to rip off his face.
“It was nice meeting you Zara” he smiled at her, took her hands and placed a kiss on it, she smiled back. The anger in me intensifies “we're going home” I tell her removing my hand from her waist.
“I should go say goodbye to—-” I couldn't let her finish. Something was boiling inside of me. I grabbed her wrist tightly and took her out. “My hand” she cries out.
I didn't listen, kept my grip strong. We got to the car I shoved her in—- roughly, loosened my tie. I entered through the other door.
She didn't say a word to me, neither did I.
We got home. She came out of the car angrily. You could tell she was. I was too. She took off her shoes, walks barefoot. “Will you stop behaving like your still in the gutters” she stops, looks at me
“Ohh tell me how I should behave then” she said facing me.
“No you do not raise your voice at me woman” I remove my tie and toss it to the floor.
“New rules, I don't want you with anybody, especially Roman you're supposed to be my wife, one that I bought not some w***e that leaches on to any rich guy she sees” my breathing was heavy now.
“Really that's what you thought, that's what you saw me doing, for christ sake you took me to a f*****g party a kind I've never been to before, I felt all alone, I was out of place and finally I saw someone with a nice sense of humour, someone I could talk to and you say what” she stops, like a question.
Now in a low commanding voice “I don't care what you think or feel I don't care. I just need you to know one thing– you're mine never forget that” I turned from her and walked towards the stairs.
“You bought my body not my life Damien” she said as if trying to prove a point. I stopped in my tracks having heard my name, it sounded sweet with her voice. I turned to her, blood. A nosebleed. Her face tilted up hands to her nose. She hurries to her room. I stood still on the staircase. She walks past me, I turned to her, she kept climbing up.
She got to the last step and she stood trying to catch her breath.”are you okay” I said climbing towards her. She suddenly falls but thankfully I was quick enough to catch her.
