Chapter 5

Davina

I woke up to a strange voice.

Definitely not Enzo's voice.

"What do you mean they're here?" His voice is mixed with irritation and anger. "Tonight is about the pack, not one outsider is allowed to be on this estate. Go back and tell them they can't be here, Kora."

"But Beta Marco," Kora put up a protest. "Why don't we just let it slide. With Alpha Demetri dead, his son is likely to take over his place. He's the firstborn son and the chosen heir. We cannot deny his status anymore."

"I want them far away from Enzo during this ceremony. I understand Ethan is no longer an ordinary man, but the last thing this pack needs tonight is the enmity between those two. Enzo finally found his mate."

"It's fine Beta, I will handle the situation. You can leave everything to me," Kora insisted. "Alpha Enzo is with the elders now. Maybe you should call it a day and enjoy the rest of the party."

I let out a warning growl at the sound of Ethan's name.

But wait.

Is Demetri dead?!

Enzo hates Ethan.

I have to get away from all of this. Ethan can't find me here. Now everyone will know about my past and the whole drama of being the cursed Omega continues.

My heart skipped for a moment when Kora violently made her way in without any warning. Her face hardens as though she had ill plans for me. I know she doesn't like me, but what would it cost her to just leave me alone for tonight?

"Get up!" she ordered. "You are meeting the council to prove yourself to the entire pack."

"What?! I don't understand," my lips tremble as I try to speak.

"You heard me right, Davina. There's no way I am letting you have Enzo, not after everything this pack has sacrificed for his rulership. You are just a peasant who wants to drag him down."

"Why won't you believe me? I mean no harm," I screamed. "I don't want all these. I just want a place to call home. I just want a pack like everyone else."

"Then, reject him," she roared.

For a moment, I was startled at the fire in her eyes. Her claws burst out with no constraint and my body trembled on my bed. Her eyes went bloodshot and the room suddenly stiffened at the darkness surrounding her.

Not today.

I can't dare to stand up to this woman.

I swallowed.

And then, my head moved in acknowledgment.

Either way, Kylie might have me killed for snatching her dream man. I overheard her discussion with Alpha Enzo and I know well when a woman is madly in love with a man.

Everywhere I go attracts chaos.

Kora aggressively slammed the door, leaving me in a state of shock.

I slipped my hand between the cotton layers by the side of the room. I could already feel draught knitting through the attic boards. Everything is just against me.

I forced my feet to move forward, but my voice was completely mute. I swallowed in fear as the entire council surrounded me. My throat knots as I stare at those angry faces.

A few hours ago, they were all elated to hear their Alpha has a mate, but now, something seems off.

"You are wolf less," one of the elders roared.

"My…. My..." I lowered my gaze to avoid their blazing eyes. "Please forgive me. I didn't mean for all of this to happen."

"She cannot be our Luna," another declared. "She is nothing but an orphan whose mother was a slut in their pack. She's cursed, Alpha Enzo. We cannot accept her into this pack."

Tears streaked down my cheeks, my past finally caught up with me once more.

"Enzo, it's true. She befriended Alpha Ethan and made her way into his bed. She is just like her mother, and you can't possibly keep her as your Luna. You are the last of your bloodline, and you shouldn't trade it for a slut like her."

Kylie pulled closer to Enzo, her arms wrapped around his shoulders and her face gently brushing his chest. Her expression makes me wonder if she was trying to rage bait me.

I just met these people.

"She cannot be our Luna, Enzo. She will curse us all," Kora screamed.

I fell to the ground, eyes all flickering in fear of the unknown. I tried to run away, but the warriors were too hefty to take such a risk. They might tear me apart.

"I will go," I cried. "I won't cause any more trouble. Please…. Just spare me."

His steps were soundless as he pulled away from Kylie and made his way in my direction. He moved like the sun, the wind rather. His movement made the room feel small and none could withstand his wolf the moment he woke.

Then he said, softly. "What do you think will happen when our union is sealed, cursed Omega? Will you die first or does everything you touch shatter in the wind like chaff?"

The words slit like a thousand daggers.

I froze but managed to control my emotions, so I won't provoke the Alpha.

"If I die, then there will be war among the seven packs. A reckoning shall begin and the reign of darkness shall overthrow all that is left of the seven packs. I believe I can serve you. I believe I can be useful if you give me the chance."

"Treason!"

I was going to reject this man and run for my life, but seeing how the entire pack wants me dead, why would I turn down a man who publicly accepts an Omega like me? Whatever the outcome is tonight, I have made up my mind to put myself first.

Enough of being shoved aside to rot.

My eyes flickered in utter confusion. I have no idea what I just said and the look in their eyes screams ‘Kill her’.

He made a deliberate pause and something gleaned in his eyes.

Something way worse than the elders' reaction.

I hear a deep growl from his wolf and I fall to the ground, my body cannot handle the power he exudes.

Thunder struck right above us, causing the ground to tremble as the earth shook at Enzo's greatness.

"Kill her! Kill her! Kill her!"

I am done running, pleading to be seen as a helpless wolf.

Whatever happens tonight, I will not flinch.

"You're not an Omega, are you?" His eyes darken, yet I can see a mystery smirk on his lips. "Prepare her chambers, this meeting is over."

"But–" they tried to protest, but one look from Enzo, the room went still.

I raised my eyes to meet Enzo's, but before I could say a word, the door suddenly burst open and the man behind it drew his sword without hesitation and pointed it straight at me.

"Stay away from Alpha Enzo, or I will slit your throat!"
