CHAPTER ONE
It was an irresistible physique. His body build was just perfect. Even while in the dark suit, his muscular physique would make any girl not want to take her eyes off it. His dark curly hair was admirable too. The expensive wristwatch he had worn showed off his affluence. Even if Maverick doesn't mention to anyone of his wealth, you would still find out by only looking at his outfit; from the crown of his head to the sole of his feet. “That is so beautiful, do you mind if I take a picture of it?” The deep breathtaking voice had said from behind. That was no other than the handsome billionaire; Maverick Nolan - a thirty nine year old digital tycoon who was handed over the sole responsibility of upholding his father's legacy. Even though it wasn't something he had accepted wholeheartedly, he wasn't left with any other option than to oblige, and peradventure there was another option for him, he wasn't at liberty of choosing it, because, as long as his mom is still alive, she would never let him! Maverick never missed visiting the gym on Saturdays, if at all there was anything that mattered most to him, that would be his biceps and triceps, so, he always made sure they were in good shape. Maverick's visit to the gym on Saturdays was almost a tense moment for almost every lady. He always wore his very tight black shorts and singlet which revealed his hot and sexy body. For Maverick; both the young and old were head over heels by just seeing him. He was admired by the ladies, but, was envied of by the guys. Being so inquisitive to know who it was, the beautiful young girl had turned. As their eyes had come in contact with each other, it had seemed they both lost control of the moment. At first glance, Valeria was already falling for him. No doubt, he has a nice physique - tall stature and very clear skin which was as a result of his affluence. Valeria admired his external looks and really hoped he would have a good character to complement his looks. She was already having some wild dreams as she imagined the opportunity of getting intimately close to him. Maverick fixed his eyes so intensely on her; there was everything to admire! Her blonde hair, her grey eyes, her pink and soft lips and her very nice dentition! As soon as she had seen Maverick, she gave a very cute smile that to some extent made her expose her dentition. He smiled across to her, feeling the bridge of his nose with his fingers. She seems to have already struck a chord in his heart. Valeria couldn't get control of her emotions, her purse had just fallen out of her hands. She quickly bent to pick it, as she was somewhat feeling like a nerd. Her eyes were shining with so much excitement. “I’m sorry” she finally said. She was so nervous and didn't know anything else to say to him. For the first time in six years, the twenty one year old artist had finally accepted that a man could be handsome. After she had broken up with her high school boyfriend, she had vowed never to do anything with any guy, but at the moment, it seems she may have to give it a second thought. Two years after Valeria had broken up with her ex, she met a random stranger on the road who proposed to her. “Would you be my fiancée?” the stranger pleaded as he knelt down. “Who on earth proposes to a stranger just by meeting her for the first time? You must really be insane” Valeria pushed him aside and walked past him. She felt so embarrassed. He wasn't even handsome, moreover, she had made a vow, so she was going to keep it! “Can I get a picture of that?” Maverick asked again to finally bring her back to reality. “Yes, sure you can.” She finally let out another word, with so much enthusiasm. She was so soft spoken and her smile was really infectious. “I'd made this mural” she said almost with a tone of fulfillment. “I'm a self-taught artist, I've been learning on my own consistently for years, but I'd also love to be taught by another professional.” “Everyone has that thing that makes them happy and if there is any for me, then, it's art.” Valeria paused for a while as she suddenly realized she had been talking too much for the past few minutes. Valeria is an idealistic stoic art student with a Bohemian sense of style. If there was any important thing in life, for her, it was her art. Having the passion of being a highly recognized muralist, Valeria never gave up on her dreams. She has faced so many challenges in life, but chooses to remain resilient; only the strong can win. She’d always had it in mind that someday her dreams would come true, it may just take time. “Okay,” Maverick said as he handed her over the piece of art he'd wanted to take a picture of. “Okay? Is that what any reasonable person should say after seeing such a beautiful piece as this? I think I made the mistake of smiling so much and revealing so much to him. He's such a spoiled brat” Valeria thought within her. “Anyway, he liked it, because if he didn't, he would not have asked to take a picture of it.” She finally reassured herself. Clearing his throat, Maverick said; “one of the reasons I had actually come for this art exhibition was to get to hire someone who would paint a mural in my penthouse.” He'd paused for a few seconds and finally continued. “I love aesthetics so much and I would like some aesthetic mural paintings by a professional.” “I really don't know how long you've been doing this, but, seeing your piece of art, I think you're able to give me what I'd want.” “Do you think it's something you're willing to do?” Maverick asked Valeria as he held her shoulders and passionately stared into her grey eyes.” Feeling somewhat uncomfortable or better still; nervous, Valeria tried moving his hands off her shoulder, but, it'd seemed he glued them with some adhesive gum. Trying not to continue staring into his big brown eyes, Valeria fixed her gaze on his brown shoes. At least, it was better than fixing them on his eyes. “I think it's a good idea Sir, I'd love to work with you.” She stuttered. Her voice turned husky and faint. “Sir?” Maverick said in a bid to tease her. He laughed out so loud that one could have thought he was seeing a comedy. Cut me off that crap, beautiful girl, it's ’MAVERICK’ not Sir. “Come on, I'm not as old as you think I am, he whispered into her ears. Maverick had made emphasis on his name, so she wouldn't get to make the mistake of addressing him by ’Sir’ ever again. I'm so sorry Sir Mav…. Maverick I meant, she said, turning her face towards the wall as she gave a cute smile. Valeria was blushing already. Lost in thoughts again, Valeria admired everything about Maverick. The glitter from his gold watch was bright enough to be seen by the blind. “You seem shy, pretty, am I that intimidating with my looks?” “I'm not shy Sir, sorry, Maverick.” “Well, if you're not, then look into my eyes and let's have a good conversation. Or am I not handsome enough?” “No, not at all, you're really handsome and every girl would look at you, I just don't feel comfortable staring at people.” “Oh wow, so I'm handsome?” Maverick asked biting his lower lips.” “I think so. Well, you are, she grinned. She covered her face with her hands, she was feeling shy, she couldn't hide it. “I think my day is already made, Maverick grinned. “Why? Have you been having a bad day before now?” “Well, not really, but, I've had someone compliment me and I think that's enough to make my day.” “Oh, stop it, please. Any lady would also say that if they have the opportunity to.” “Mmmmmm, it's fine, if you insist, pretty.” He patted her on her shoulder. “Okay, let's not spend so much time discussing my looks; let's get straight to business; when would you love to start?” Maverick asked her. Seeming to be confused, Valeria asked “start what please?’’ “The painting of course, what other thing?” Maverick replied, laughing so hard. “Oh, I was lost in thoughts.” Valeria said. “Thinking about me, right?” He winked. “Hell no! Well, not to be rude actually, I wasn't thinking about you.” “Can you swear you weren't?” “I can't, but you just have to believe me.” She smiled as she tried adjusting her hair clip. “Well, uhmmm, anytime, anytime at all would be fine by me.” “Anytime at all? How about at night, you'd be able to come right?” Maverick asked her as he tried leaning her to the wall. “Why would I do that? That's not what I meant. Of course, not at night!” She replied in an almost fierce tone. “I'm sorry if I said something bad. I forgot you're still a kid, so obviously your parents won't let you out.” Maverick said in a bid to defend himself. Well, it would have been a defence if he hadn't sounded sarcastic. Pushing him aside, Valeria said; “firstly - I'm not a kid and lastly, I don't stay with my parents. So, if you don't mind, can we just stick to business! “Ouchh, okay, pretty, I'm sorry if I didn't say something nice, okay? I hope I'm forgiven, right? You've got a really beautiful smile and I wouldn't want anything or anyone to stop you from smiling” He romantically dragged her cheek and she gave her usual beautiful and heart warming smile. “Not like it was a big deal anyway,” Valeria responded. “Alright, if you say so. Meanwhile, I would give you my card, I'd also get your contact so I can reach you when I'm ready, okay?’’ I'd just get my card from the car. Just put your number here, he slid the phone in her hands. Valeria was almost shocked at seeing Maverick's phone. She had never seen anything like that in her entire life and even if she were to have something like that, it'd take her so many years to save up for it. “Here,” she said, handing the phone over to him. Alright, just hold on a bit, let me get my card. He walked a few steps and came back, seeming to have forgotten something. “How about I give you a ride, or do you have some other things you want to do here?” Valeria wasn't expecting Maverick to drive her home. Moreover, they had just met for the first time and he was so nice to her. She thought to say no to him, but reconsidered since she didn't have enough money to go back home. “It's not a bad idea. Thank you.” “You're welcome, pretty. Ladies first, he bowed as he made way for her to move before him. Maverick drove Valeria back home. They didn't engage in much conversation; there was really nothing to talk about at the moment.
