Child of the storm
On a stormy night, rain crashes down on the roof of a tiny worn out hut , surrounded by trees
" push!!!"
in there lies a woman names Luna in labor a midwife kneels beside her
"please my lady don't give up "
Suddenly a loud cry pierces through the storm , the cry of a new born baby
" my lady it's a girl , it's a girl" Tirel cried with tears in her eyes but sadly luna didn't react her arms cold and her eyes closed
"you did well my lady " Tirel whispered with tears in her eyes she looked up and realized that the storm has stopped, smiled and whispered
"the storm came with her...and left with her too this child is not ordinary "
she carried the child and walked into the moonlight
"welcome to this world, Maya child of the storm and daughter of the moon"
FORWARD TO THE FUTURE
" Maya will u be my girlfriend "
Outside the school gate stood a little boy with a flower confessing to a little girl with black hair , baby doll eyes and a glowing skin
"No" Maya blatantly refused "why " the boy pressed on
she turn her head in a huff " hmph you're too childish, I don't date boys I date men "
"okay I'll come back when I grow up to come get you " the boy said determined to win over Maya's heart
" okay , we can still be friends "
Under a tree , stood a man with a black suit and sunglasses, waiting for an opportunity to strike as he walked closer to the kids with a creepy smile
"hey kids , do you like ..... "
" Jason , Maya come over I got something for you both " before the man could complete his sentence he was interrupted by Jessica Jason's mom running towards the kids with a chocolate candy and soon as she got to the kids she realized that they were talking to a stranger and asked cautiously
" Maya do you know who this uncle is "
"No aunt Jessy , do you know him Jason " Maya asked in a childish way
Jason shaked his head in denial
" Hello sir I'm the mother of both kids how may I help you , I can see you're new here , Are you lost "
The man replied "yes " but something didn't feel right to Jessica so she grabbed this kids bid farewell to the man and hurriedly tried to escape but was knocked down b4 she could by the time she woke up Maya was gone only her son Jason was there she ran out into the neighborhood screaming help and successfully gained their attention but sadly after searching a whole day they didn't find Maya
MEANWHILE IN A DARK CAVE
Maya awoke to the sound of metal clanging. She was in a dimly lit room, the walls lined with cages. Other children huddled in the corners, their eyes wide with fear. A boy, slightly older than her, sat in the adjacent cage.
"Hey," he whispered, noticing her stirring. "I'm Arin ,What's your name?”"Maya," she replied, her voice trembling.
"Don't worry, Maya. I'll get us out of here."
---
Days turned into weeks. Maya and Arin grew close, sharing stories and dreams of freedom. Arin had been there longer and knew the guards' routines. He began devising a plan to escape, observing every detail, every weakness.
One night, he whispered to Maya ,"Tomorrow, when the guards change shifts, we'll make our move."
---
The next evening, as the guards swapped duties, Arin used a stolen key to unlock their cages. They slipped through the corridors, hearts pounding. Just as they reached the exit, an alarm blared. The chase began.
---
They ran through the forest, the moonlight guiding their path. The sound of footsteps grew louder behind them. Arin knew they wouldn't both make it.
He stopped, turning to Maya . "Keep running. Don't look back."
"But—"
"Go!"
Maya hesitated, tears streaming down her face, then turned and fled. Arin faced the pursuers, leading them away from her. Under the moon's watchful eye, he made his stand.
---
Maya was found by villagers and returned home. She never forgot Arin , the boy who gave everything for her freedom. Every full moon, she would look up, whispering a thank you to the sky, hoping he could hear her
Tirel Maya's nanny who came back from the city and heard all about what happened to Maya hugged and kissed her precious child after checking on Maya
she turned to the villagers with stern eyes
"how could you people be this careless , if Maya had died what would you all had done , she's just a kid how could a whole village not know how to protect a child"
she asked with rage
Everyone kept silent too guilty to say a word, Jessica the most guilty among all stepped out and bowed
" I'm sorry , she was kidnapped right in my presence I was powerless to stop it, please forgive me " she cried as the bowed
soon enough the whole village followed after
" we are very sorry this won't happen again " the whole village bowed their head in apology
seeing this Tirel heart soften ànd she hugged Jessica
" you know she's the only one I have left , I'm sorry "
" I know I know I'm sorry "
they both hugged and reconciled
_____
After that Tirel took Maya's hand and they walked home together
At night ***
The wind whispered gently through the trees as the village settled into sleep. Above, the moon floated full and low, casting silver light across the courtyard.
Tirel sat cross-legged with her Maya in between her knees. The night air was cool, and the silence was sweet. Tirel’s fingers moved slowly through maya’s hair, weaving new braids where old ones had loosened.
“Mom,” maya said softly, tilting her head back. “Tell me something beautiful.”
Tirel smiled, her eyes reflecting the moonlight. “Then let me tell you the story of Nelo and Amaya—the lovers the moon refused to forget.”
---
A long time ago, in a village where the river sang and the trees danced with the wind, lived a boy named Nelo. He was quiet, strong, and worked with his father as a fisherman.
In that same village lived Amaya, the chief’s daughter—curious, spirited, and known for laughing with her whole soul. They saw each other first during the New Year Festival, when the moon was high and round. Amaya danced barefoot under its light. Nelo watched from the shadows, heart beating like a drum. That night, the moon glowed brighter than anyone had ever seen.
Some say it was the moon's blessing.
---
Their love grew in quiet places—by the riverbank, beneath old trees, and always under the moon. Their families didn’t approve. A fisherman’s son and a chief’s daughter? Impossible. No one knew Nelo’s identity
But love does not care for rules.
So they met in secret, leaving each other tokens—beads, shells, whispered poems. And the moon watched it all.
One night, Nelo told her, “Even if the world separates us, the moon will always be our witness.”
---
When amaya’s father found out, he forbade her from seeing Nelo again. She was locked away, and Nelo was banished across the river.
The moon wept that night, hiding behind clouds as if it couldn’t bear to watch.
But love... love is stubborn.
On the night of the next full moon, Awele escaped. She crossed the river in a borrowed canoe. Nelo waited.
They ran.
But they were caught.
And as punishment, they were taken to the edge of the cliff and separated forever.
That night, the moon did not rise at all.
Tirel paused, tying the last braid. Maya turned to look at her, eyes wide.
“What happened to them?”
“They were never seen again,” Tirel said, softly. “But every full moon since, if you look carefully, you’ll see two shadows—one beside the other. They say Nelo and Amaya became part of the moon itself. Still meeting. Still loving. Still glowing.”
Maya leaned against Tirel and asked “Do you think that’s true?”
Tirel smiled. “I think love like that never really ends especially since Amaya was pregnant at that time they both chose love and they died for it but they're little angel lives well and is the fruit of their love.“
The moon shone softly on them.
And far above, two shadows crossed gently in the silver sky.
