BLURB: The last thing Adrian Cole expected was to run into her like this. Talia Gittel never expected to see him again, and never thought that one reckless and passionate night would come back to haunt her like this — until it did.

The stranger who turned one night into a whirlwind of passion, only to disappear without a trace. But fate has a cruel sense of humor and the universe sometimes delights in unexpected twists. Now the man who left a fat wad of cash and a cryptic note underneath her pillow is sitting across from her in the boardroom. His commanding presence is impossible to ignore.

His name? ADRIAN COLE! His game? ABSOLUTE POWER.

Adrian Cole is the definition of power:

ruthless, calculating, and untouchable. He’s built an empire on control, and trust is a luxury he can’t afford— after years of betrayal and manipulations, especially after being burned emotionally by Ophelia Vasiliki, his ambitious ex-lover turned corporate rival. He’s locked his heart behind a fortress of steel, leaving no room for love, emotions or mistakes in his business and life.

But then there’s Talia—fiery, independent, and maddeningly immune to his charm, she isn't just another pawn in his ruthless game and world, She challenges him at every turn making it impossible to maintain the careful distance he’s used to.

Adrian is everything Talia despises—arrogant, domineering, controlling, and dangerously captivating. Although their chemistry is undeniable and their tempers combustible. But when Adrian proposes a contract marriage —one that could solve both their problems, Talia is faced with a choice: walk away or take the deal of a lifetime that can save her family from financial ruin. For Adrian, the arrangement is a perfectly calculated move to maintain control and silence the rumors swirling around his personal life.

What starts as a cold, calculated and scripted partnership soon becomes a seductive game neither can resist. Neither of them expects the line between business and desire to blur so dangerously. And as their worlds intertwine irrevocably, so do their secrets.

With Ophelia lurking in the shadows, determined to destroy everything Adrian has built and reclaim what she lost, Talia and Adrian must navigate a world of corporate sabotage, buried truths, and an undeniable connection they can’t escape.

In a world where trust is an absolute luxury and love is a very dangerous gamble, Adrian and Talia must decide: are they playing the game to win, or have they already lost themselves to it?

CHAPTER ONE: THE NIGHT IT ALL BEGAN.
Talia Gittel stood outside the grandiose entrance of the Blackwood Hotel’s ballroom, her nerves prickling under the glow of golden lights spilling from the massive glass doors. She clutched the satin clutch in her hand, silently cursing Vanessa for convincing her to come. “You work too hard, Talia,” Vanessa had said just hours ago, standing in Talia’s apartment doorway with a garment bag slung over her shoulder. “You need a night to breathe. Just one. Besides,” Vanessa had added with a mischievous grin, “this dress will turn heads of both genders without even trying.” Talia had rolled her eyes, but Vanessa’s persistence, paired with her own exhaustion, had broken her resistance. Now, she stood here, a reluctant participant in a world she didn’t belong to. The dress, a black body-hugging, backless gown, clung to her curves with an elegance that bordered on sinful. The satin gleamed in the light, and its low cut accentuated her toned shoulders and neck. Vanessa’s words echoed again as Talia tugged at the hem nervously, her heels clicking softly on the marble. Heads will turn. That wasn’t her goal, but it seemed inevitable tonight. Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside. --- The ballroom was an orchestra of sensory overload. The hum of sophisticated chatter blended with the tinkling of champagne glasses and the soft notes of a live jazz band. Crystal chandeliers sparkled overhead like constellations, illuminating the extravagance below. Talia immediately felt the weight of the crowd’s collective presence, a sea of poised, glamorous faces who seemed to belong in this world far more than she did. “An hour. Just an hour,” she whispered to herself, repeating her earlier promise. She would mingle briefly, have a couple of drinks, maybe even exchange a few pleasantries with familiar faces from work, and then quietly disappear. That was the plan. She made her way to the bar, the air brushing against her bare back like a whispered reminder of how exposed she felt. Her reflection in the mirror behind the bartender caught her off guard. For a moment, she almost didn’t recognize herself—her usual ponytail replaced with soft curls that framed her face, her minimal makeup accentuating her sharp cheekbones and full lips. Vanessa had worked magic, but it wasn’t enough to banish the unease swirling in her chest. As she waited for her drink, her eyes scanned the room—and stopped. --- Across the ballroom, he stood. The man wasn’t just attractive; he was arresting. Tall and broad-shouldered, his tailored navy suit clung to him as if it had been stitched directly onto his frame. His sharp jawline could have been carved from stone, and his dark hair was styled with effortless precision. But it wasn’t just his looks. It was his presence. Commanding. Self-assured. He radiated an air of quiet authority that seemed to part the crowd around him like an invisible force. His intense blue eyes were locked in her direction, and the way his lips curled into a small, knowing smile sent a shiver racing down her spine. Talia’s breath hitched. She wasn’t just looking at him; she felt him, like an unspoken pull tethering her to him across the room. It was absurd because no one had stirred this kind of feeling within her for quite a moment. Besides, Men like him didn’t notice women like her. And yet... he was watching her. She quickly looked away, her cheeks heating. But the bartender’s gentle tap on her arm startled her, and her gaze flicked back to him—only to find him raising his glass in her direction, that same enigmatic smile playing on his lips. The moment stretched, the noise around her dimming. Her heart pounded as she broke eye contact. Stay away, she told herself firmly. Men like him were dangerous. The kind who took without asking, leaving destruction in their wake. She didn’t belong in his orbit, and she’d make sure she stayed far away. That was the plan. --- Adrian Cole hadn’t planned on attending tonight’s gala. Events like this were tedious—endless handshakes, hollow conversations, and thinly veiled attempts to curry his favor. But as CEO of Cole Conglomerate, his presence was expected, if not required. He’d spent the evening on autopilot, offering clipped smiles and curt nods, his focus never straying far from the business ventures on his mind. Women often threw lingering glances his way, their interest blatant, but he rarely paid attention. Until now. The moment she walked into the ballroom, his eyes had been drawn to her. The way she tugged nervously at the hem of her dress, the slight bite of her lower lip—it was refreshing. Unpolished. Real. She didn’t fawn over anyone, didn’t try to assert herself in the room. She seemed to shrink into herself, but that only made her stand out. Adrian’s gaze sharpened as he observed her from a distance. Her vulnerability intrigued him, but it was the defiant tilt of her chin that hooked him. She wasn’t here to impress anyone. That was rare. And he wanted to know why. ~~~ Talia felt herself relaxing as the minutes passed. A few compliments on her dress from passing strangers helped ease her nerves, but she remained cautious, sticking to the edges of the room. She hadn’t seen the mystery man again, much to her relief. But just as she began to feel comfortable, her heart sank. Across the room, a familiar face appeared—Nathan. Her ex. His cocky smirk was unchanged, his arrogant swagger cutting through the crowd as he made his way toward her. Panic flared. She could already imagine his condescending remarks about her still being single, about how she’d never moved on. She couldn’t endure that—not tonight. Without thinking, she turned and grabbed the nearest arm, her heart racing as she stammered, “Just... play along.” Her breath caught as she looked up—and froze. It was him. The Mystery Man. Adrian’s piercing blue eyes locked onto hers, and his brow arched slightly in surprise. Then, slowly, his lips curved into a faint, amused smile. Talia’s pulse thundered in her ears. She’d been trying to avoid him all night—and now, here she was, clinging to his arm like her life depended on it. His voice was smooth, low, and dangerously calm as he leaned closer. “I’ll bite. What are we playing, exactly?”
