SELENA'S POV My face glowing with enthusiasm mirrored back at me as I sat in front of my dressing table. My rosy cheeks were covered in blush and my lips were red with lipstick with my blue eyes filled with excitement. I blew out my tightly coiled black hair once more, trying to keep back the flapping butterflies inside. It would be great tonight. It had to be. My name is Selena Ravenwood, I'm the youngest and the favorite daughter of my father, Joshua Ravenwood, who is the Beta of the Moonbound pack. When I turned 18 two years ago, I found out my mate was the Alpha king's eldest son, Caius Reynolds. He would be ascending the throne in the next full moon and I have been waiting for him to officially ask me to be his Luna. "Selene, you look so beautiful,," my mother smiled as she leaned against the doorway, her own bright brown eyes flashing with pride. "Thanks, Mom," I said, gathering up the clingy blue dress over my hips. "You think Caius will officially ask me today?” “He’ll be crazy not to.” My dad laughed. "He's very lucky to have you as his mate." Though Caius and I have been dating for two years, I still get paranoid, thinking he might not see me as Luna material. I love Caius and I knew very well that he felt the same way. But I just couldn’t shake off the nervousness in my heart since Caius' crowning announcement. No. I tried to not to listen to that little demeaning voice anymore and focus on the outcome of the evening. That evening, I stood outside the movie theater Caius and I agreed to meet for our date. I knew this date was not our usual one because he told me it was a special night for us. I checked my watch and saw Caius was running but I didn't mind. He must have been delayed by work, especially with his crowning ceremony coming up, so I decided to wait a bit longer. But minute by minute, it was growing impossible to wait. ‘I think we got stood up.’ my wolf Aya said but i ignored her I pulled out my phone and texted him: "Hey, I'm here. Are you okay?" No response. I walked back and forth in front of the entrance, thinking if something happened because I knew Caius would never stand me up and not even have the decency to call and inform me. No, something is wrong. I hailed down a cab and made my way to his house. The house was dark and vacant when I got there, which was usual. "Caius?" I called as I pushed the door open but silence greeted me. Aya began to feel restless, scratching to take over but I refused as I walked further into the house, going upstairs to Caius’s room. As I moved closer, a stench hit my nose buds, a strong metallic odor that had my stomach coiling; Blood. I froze in my steps as shivers ran through my entire body. Forcing myself to move, I ran to Caius' room and pushed the door open. My eyes widened at the horrifying scene in front of me. Caius was on the floor and his blond hair was drenched in his blood. He was still and his chest was not rising and falling to indicate that he was breathing. And beside him was his younger brother who was looking at me with wide eyes and his fist clamped tight around his blade. “No, no, no.” I shook my head and prayed that this was nothing but a terrible nightmare. "Selena," he whispered as he took a few steps closer to me. "No,” I put my hand out to stop him as I stepped back. “Don’t you dare take another step closer.” I should have seen this coming. I should have expected that Lucian would be jealous of Caius being the next Alpha king and try to stop him. I should have warned him. "Just hear me out.” He stretched his hand to touch me but I grabbed his hand and knocked him down, using the self defense skills that my father taught me. I ran away from the scene and made my way downstairs with my heart pounding in my chest. "Selene, wait," His voice roared behind me with pain evident in it. I did not wait, I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. He murdered Caius. He murdered my mate. I tripped over my legs at the bottom of the stairs and winced in pain as pain shot through my legs. I looked back with my teary eyes when I heard his footsteps approaching. Pushing through the pain, I stood up and walked towards the front door. The door was pushed open from outside and I stopped as a beautiful lady with golden blonde hair and deep green eyes walked with an evil smile on her face. "Hi, Selene," she said in an overly sweet voice. Too sweet. "What do you want?" I attempted to say in a quiet voice. But my wolf half growled at the perception of danger. "That is not important." she smiled. “All i need is for you to be quiet,” she stepped closer and whispered in my ear, “Forever.” Before I could process what was happening, I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. Aya howled in pain and tried to take over but it was as if something was blocking her. The lady pulled out the blade from my stomach and stepped back from her. The lady’s eyes glowed red and I felt my body growing weaker and weaker, and Aya’s voice became very distant. With blood oozing out of my stomach, I fell to the ground as the pain intensified. “Selena,” Lucian’s voice roared as I began to lose consciousness. Lucian had won. He had succeeded in getting rid of Caius and I, and no one was ever going to find out.
