Chapter one The stranger
The sunlight broke through the tall windows of the palace, casting a golden glow across the marble floors. Alex Kensington, heir to the silver fang pack and future alpha king, lounged on a velvet couch in his private study. Life at the palace was a series of rituals, from training sessions to meeting with pack elders and formal dinners. But today was different. Today there were no council meetings, no ceremonies, or tedious diplomacy as their rival blood moon pack attacks had dwindled. It was a rare moment of peace and Alex intended to savor every second of it.
He tipped his head back and closed his eyes, listening to the soft hum of the wind outside. Just as he was sinking into the Rae luxury of boredom, the door burst open.
“Alex!” Rollo's voice boomed, full of the familiar mischievous energy that always accompanied him.
“You can't possibly be enjoying yourself stuck up in this place”
“ I was, until you barged in” Alex replied not opening his eyes.
Rollo Walked into the room, as comfortable in the palace as if it were his own. His dark hair was a bit disheveled, and his leather jacket looked like it had seen better days. He was the complete opposite of Alex, while Alex was regal and composed, Rollo was wild and unpredictable. It was one of the reasons they had become inseparable right from childhood.
“You've been stuck in this palace too long,” he said dropping onto a chair and placing his boots-cloaked legs on the table. “You need air and fun, which is why I'm here, I mean you get to have time for yourself for the first time in months and the best thing you could think of was being stuck in your study? Come-on…”
“Let me guess,” Alex said opening his eyes. “you've got a plan”
“Obviously,” Rollo said with a grin. “There's a bar off in town. Word on the street says it's where all the interesting people go. Are you up for a little adventure?”
Alex thought for a moment, but the promise of something new, something outside the polished halls of the palace was too tempting. “Fine,” he said, standing and stretching. “But if this is another one of your schemes…”
“It's not a scheme” Rollo cut in, holding up his hand, as if in surrender running off halfway out the door. “ It's an experience”

Alex and Rollo reached the city, and by the time they had gotten there, the sun had set. They walked down, taking the city in one glance as they searched for the bar. When they found it, it was a small, dimly lit place.
Inside, the bar was a blend of rustic charm and modern decadence. The walls were lined with old records and mismatched furniture, and soft jazz filled the air. Alex noticed right away that this wasn't the kind of place frequented by his family or the palace royals. It was rather relaxed, unpretentious, and exactly what he needed.
Rollo led them to a table near the back, far from the crowd but close enough to observe the room. They ordered whiskey, Alex's usual drink, and settled in. For a while, they chatted about everything and nothing. Rollo told a half-truth about nearly getting into a fight the previous night, and Alex teased him about how he always seemed to attract trouble.
Rollo's attention suddenly drifted towards the bar. His gaze locked onto a woman sitting alone, holding a drink she barely sipped from. Her presence, beauty, and features were striking, she had silvery blonde hair that fell in soft waves over her shoulders, and she wore a sleek gold dress that clung to her. She sat with confidence unaware or entirely aware of the stares she was attracting.
“See here?” Rollo murmured, his voice low so only Alex could hear her.
“The woman at the bar?” He said following his friend's gaze.
“She's different,” he said his voice low and shaky.
“Different how?”
“I don't know, there's just something about her,” he said struggling with his words. “Since when do you overthink talking to women?” Alex teased.
You won't understand, Alex” Rollo said. “It's not something I can explain”.
“You're always getting that weird feeling” Alex sighed stealing a glance at the woman again, and she stirred up this curiosity within him.
“I think I'll introduce myself,” Alex said, setting down his glass.
Rollo gave him a look, somewhere between amused and exasperated. “Of course you will”
Alex smirked, getting up he made his way toward the bar, and as he approached, the woman looked up, her eyes were sharp and confident. Closer she was even more attractive, her features were elegant.
“Mind if I join you?” Alex asked, his tone light and easy.
“That depends, do you usually talk to strangers in bars?” She said tilting her head slightly, her face expressionless.
Alex chuckled, leaning against the bar. “Only the interesting ones”
She raised a brow, clearly unimpressed. “And how do you know I'm interesting?”
Alex gave her a slow, deliberate smile, the kind that usually made people lower their guard. “Well, shall I find out?”
She said nothing, just swirling her glass, her face expressionless. Then she pointed to the vacant seat beside her. “Be my guest”
Alex sat signaling the bartender for another drink. “My name's Alex, Alex… Kensington”
She froze for a minute as if contemplating whether or not she should give him her name. She suddenly turned and smiled, then said. “Diana”
“Pleasure to meet you, Diana,” Alex said smoothly.
Her lips curved into the faintest hint of a smile, but there was a guardedness about her that intrigued Alex even more. She wasn't like the women he usually encountered, those who knew exactly who he was and what his title meant. Diana didn't seem impressed by his charm or his name. If anything, she seemed mildly amused.
“ So what brings you to a place like this?” Alex asked, sipping his drink.
“I could ask you the same thing” Diana countered.
“Fair enough” Alex said with a grin. “ Alright, let's say I just needed a change of environment”
Diana held her gaze for a moment as if she were reading his mind. “I'm happy to announce that… you found the right place,” she said abruptly.
They fell into an easy rhythm of conversation, the light banter with moments of genuine curiosity. Alex found himself wanting to know more about her but she remained elusive revealing little about herself.
Meanwhile, Rollo watched from the table, a strange knot forming in his chest. He didn't know why but something about Diana unsettled him. She was extremely beautiful, no doubt about that but there was something more, something he just couldn't place. Moreover, he noticed some men kept looking at both her and Alex, but he dismissed it as them being inquisitive.
Alex however, seemed oblivious to any potential danger. He was too caught up in the thrill of the moment, the spark of something new.
As the night wore on, it became clear that whatever lay ahead, whether adventure or trouble, had already begun.
