Chapter 8: Pain

1000 Words
'Despair... Despair... Despair..." Kept running through my head until a big slam interrupted. I got shoved away from the fire and that's when my arm started to truly burn. I heard yelling and I opened my eyes to Alfie and my aunt in each other's faces.         "What the f**k is wrong with you?! What were you thinking?!" Alfie seems so irritated.         "I'm her guardian, I put food on the table, a roof over her head and clothes on her back, I can do whatever I want." My aunt argued.         "You're sick!"         I began to sob loudly and my tears burned my arm, I started to whimper. Alfie and my aunt looked at me with two very different emotions, disgust and sympathy, I'm sure you can tell who's who.   Alfie ran over and picked me up with both arms with my head resting in his left shoulder and my legs over his right arm.         "I'll be taking her now," he said. my aunt stared at him in silence. While looking into her eyes, all I could hear was 'despair' ringing again and again.          Alfie ran. He ran for a while. "I can walk..." I said, but he ignored me "Alfie?" Finally, he looked at me. There was so much anger in his eyes.          "Are you sure Bexley?" He seemed to relax. I could feel his arms get less tense.         "Really I'm... Fine." I said. He set me down slowly.          "That's good." He said and smiled. Then, stupidly, he patted my arm.         I squinted in pain as I let a small grunt escape my lips.          "Oh s**t! I'm sorry, I forgot."         "Already?" I whimpered softly         "Sorry." He said again.         "I'll live." I gave a small smile to reassure him.          We walked chatting about the weather. "How do you guys usually avoid the sunlight? Giant umbrellas'?"         "No that would be too obvious." He said seriously.         "I know... I was joking" I sighed at his stupidity.          "We just deal with the sun until night-time. Most of us usually just become nocturnal" Alfie looked at his feet. "We are being killed off by the government, They know about us and are afraid of us. My old friend Braydon got-"         I stopped walking and grabbed his shoulder and looked at him. "You don't have to tell me... I know it's hard to talk about stuff like that."         "No, you should know." He pushed my hand off his shoulder. "You are in more danger than the rest of us. Most vampires are trying to kill you too."         "Because I'm a girl, right?"         "Your kind is very rare and much stronger than the rest of us... I think you'll be fine because your eyes camouflage what you are but-" He pulls me into a hug and whispers in my ear. Because of the sun what he says is almost inaudible. "But if anyone finds out... I will protect you."         I felt my face heat up by his actions. "If I'm stronger than you then I could protect my self."          "You still need training." Alfie ruffled my hair.  His eyes opened wide when he realized what he did, then he smiled wide. "Your face is red. Are you blushing? I didn't even know you were capable of such an action."         I rolled my eyes. "Wait!  Do you know where my school bag is?"         "It's back at the safe-house," He replied. "Are you going to school today?"         "Yes."         "Okay, I'll walk you to our safe house."         The walk was mostly silent.         We walked into the shadows under the bridge and Alfie knock on the door.  Three fast pace ones and two slower.  I heard the door unlock and Alfie opened it.  Blood.  I smell blood, lots of it.  Alfie spun around and tried to block the entrance,  I just shoved him out of the way and he slid across the floor as Keith did.  Maybe a little farther.         I see Harley there with blood all over his face.  There was a pile of blood and guts in the center of the room.  "Hey, Bexley!  Want some?"  Harley said with a smirk, probably thinking this would bug me.  Alfie sits up off of the floor and looks at me.  Keith also staring from the couch I almost died on.         My facial expression at first wasn't fear, sadness, or hunger; it was nothing.  Until I began to laugh hysterically.  "No thanks Harley,  I already told pups I don't feel like eating bunnies yet."  Looking at the corpses they were bunnies, all of them.  The white and brown fur coats and cotton balls for tails.         "You learn fast," Harley said, "Why are you here?"         "Pups!"  I said looking at Keith, "Where is my school bag?"         "I'll get it." He smiled.  He was a blur, and then he was back.  "Here."  He handed me my bag with a smile and I nodded. "I talked to Harley about our next mission, I'll speak with Alfie and we'll probably get started without you."         "Okay.  Goodbye!"  I waved and I ran, at a normal human speed of course. . . .         I got to school a little late.  I headed to Mr. Newton's.  My life has changed.  I don't know why I'm still holding on to my old one.  I guess it's because I'll miss Farah.  She was a good friend.  I want to talk to her and at least finish high school.         I walked into class,  "I'm sorry I'm late Mr. Newton,"  I said.          My eyes met Farahs'.  She looked shocked.  Then I realized something.  Her eyes, they were the same type of blue Keiths were.  That's why Keith was interested in her.  Is she a vampire too?  Did she realize I was a vampire?  No.  Because my eyes were green.  Besides, I'm a girl so it would still be highly unlikely.         Farah started crying and she asked if she could be excused.  She ran out of the room nudging me on the way out. What just happened?         Nimah started chuckling.  "Please be seated"  Said Mr.Newton.
