Don't Ask Me

Chapter 5: Bloodless

        There is darkness, silence.  This is the place I want to stay for eternity.  I open my eyes and see a bright light above me.  I just laid there and squinted.  I tilt my head down to see...  NEEDLES?  Needles were sticking out of my body everywhere, thousands.  I began to feel them more and more the longer I stared at them.  I just closed my eyes again and excepted the pain.  I began to hear footsteps behind me.  I tilted my head up, I wanted to see the face of who did this to me.  Pain shot through my body as I moved and I groaned.

        "Are you awake?"  The darkness asked.  I saw no one but I could still hear footsteps all around me.  Then there was a long silence.  I closed my eyes and waited to die...  Little did I know I was already dead.  There was a sudden breath on my ear.  I gasped.  

        "Don't worry."  It said.  It was a girl's voice.   "This was just a test."

        "Just give it up!  There is no point in keeping her here!"  I had been woken up by a furious voice.  It reminded me of my aunt in some ways.  I kept my eyes close, afraid of what they would do if they knew I had woken up.  "She.  Is.  Dead!  Very few women have survived the change, it's extremely rare!  I never thought this little girl would survive...! no girl ever has!"  I was guessing this voice belonged to Mr. Contacts.

        "So what?!  We are just going to throw her out like garbage?!"  And I do believe that is child-man.

        "We could bury her."  Keith?  I opened my eyes to make sure what I think I heard was right.  And to my surprise, I was.  There were the three guys I met in the ally talking to each other, facing the other direction.

        "You guys are just sick!"  The kid turned around and walked towards me looking down.  I looked at his hands, they were forced into fists.  I realized he stopped walking.  I looked up at his face and he was looking straight at me with his brown eyes which dimly glow.  His eyes were full of surprise.

        "Wow, Harley!"  He said.  "Your voice was loud enough to wake the dead."  The two other boys turned around in unison and immediately their eyes widened. Keith eyes were now green.

        "No...  Way..."  Harley said shocked.  Keith ran up to me and went on his knees.

        "Bexley!"  He said.  "How do you feel?"

        I went to say something but then realized there was no air in my lungs.  I wasn't breathing this whole time...  But I don't feel like I have to gasp for air.  I don't need to breathe.

        Kid man rubbed his forehead and smiled brightly.  "That was my reaction too.  You don't need to breathe anymore, unless you want to speak of course."  He didn't seem as shocked as everyone else, but that changed when Keith whispers in his ear.  Then he became silent.

        "Your eyes are...  Green."  Keith said.  "Are you wearing contacts?"

        I gasped for air before speaking.  "No...  My eyes were always green"  I took another breath of air.  "But I Can't say the same for you."

        "Yeah, we are all wearing contacts."  He stated.  "Mine, Harley's and Alfie's eyes are actually blue, and... yours are supposed to be too."

        I was frightened but didn't want to show it, so I acted like this was as normal as possible.  "So this is the miraculous Alfie!"  I said to Keith smiling.  

        "So he talks about me?"  Alfie asked.  OK. so kid man's Alfie and Mr. Contacts is Harley.  "Did he really say I'm miraculous?" He asked.

        "No, I chose those words myself!"  I said attempting to make my smile bigger.  "You seem to be the only normal person here, and you haven't gone insane surrounded by these idiots!"

        "I like her!"  Alfie smiles at Harley and Harley finally walks over to me, angrily.

        "But I'm the one who saved you life."  Keith pouted.

        "Don't take the credit!  I would have saved her if you weren't already on it."  Alfie argues.  "Plus you just wanted to throw her in a deep hole in the ground."

        "I thought she was dead!"

        "Well, technically she still is!" 

        I tried to sit up and felt my muscles rub against my skin and bones.  I widened my eyes at this strange sensation.

          "It's a weird feeling, isn't it?"  Harley laughed and gave me an evil grin.  "You blood has stopped running through your veins and they withered dry, you'll get used to it."

        "You're bloodless!" Alfie tilts his head and pats my shoulder

        "Explain everything to me!"  I Command.
