Chapter 10

"Are you sure we have to come back inside──" Manny stopped talking when he heard Dain

in the kitchen, "──so I went looking for Rune!"

Manny walked the rest of the way into the house and stopped when he heard his birth father's

name.

Destrain yelled, "I don't believe what I'm hearing, Dain! Forced Sabbatical my a*s! You

damn well know I told you to take a vacation. That means rest and relaxation not jumping from

place to place looking for a man you continue to hold a grudge against."

"He f*****g helped Fallon take us prisoner! How can you not want vengeance as much as I

do?" Dain yelled back

"Rune did what he had to do to survive, Dain. There are things that you do not know with

regards to the man you hunt. I'm ordering you to back the hell off Rune!" Destrain yelled back.

The sound of a chair being thrown could be heard, then Dain snarling, "How can you defend

that man? He is the reason our father is dead! He is the reason Torin is dead!"

"Who's Torin?" Ollie asked.

"Shh, I don't know," Manny whispered.

"We need to get to your room, Manny," Avery whispered in his ear.

Nodding, Manny replied, "I know, but they're talking about my birth father."

"Torin is dead because he refused to listen when I told him that he needed to stay patient,"

Destrain snapped back.

Dain hissed, "How can you say that? Had we not been captives he would not have had to try

and get away."

"I say it because it's true, Dain. I told you I was working with someone to get us out of there.

I only needed more time. Now, enough about our past. You are not going to continue to try to

dissuade me, brother. I ordered you to take a vacation, not go off hunting a man you know nothing

about," Destrain argued.

"You take vacations your way, and I'll take mine my way," Dain argued back.

Destrain made a noise that Manny knew of as someone being agitated, he often heard his Dad

do that to his pops off when his dad wasn't getting his way. Then Destrain said, "Dain, you need to

rest."

"Yeah, so you keep telling me. Rest, come back nicer, and bring on some help for myself so I

don't work so hard."

"Actually, I've found two men that can fill that role," Destrain replied.

"What do you mean you found? I should get to pick who I trust to be my go between," Dain

snarled.

Destrain scoffed, "Like you would ever trust another's opinion. No, these young men will

help you by doing things you ask them to do. You know, the mundane things that annoy you? Their

names are Pascal and Oliver. They will be your personal assistants. This way you don't need to

bring in a second, and still don't have to do it all yourself. I will explain everything to you when

you come back from your vacation."

Manny moved back when Illan and Justice walked in. Illan saying, "We could hear you two

arguing all the way outside."

"Has anyone seen Manny and Frankie? I need to talk to them and apologize for my behavior,"

Angelo stated as he was coming down the stairs.

"They were in the back yard just a few minutes ago," Illan replied.

Hearing everyone going towards the back, Frankie whispered, "If we're going to do this we

need to go now."

Rushing up the stairs, Manny turned to Ollie. "Are you sure you know where to go?"

"We can follow his magic trail. Like we did to find you," Ollie replied.

Rushing into Manny's room, Avery sighed, "My mates are calling me, we need to go."

"Show us where he stood," Pas demanded.

Manny went to the spot, saying, "He was right here."

Ollie and Pas held hands and closed their eyes as the sound of feet coming up the stairs was

heard, and Angelo yelled out, "Manny? Frankie? Are you guys up here?"

"Hurry!" Manny urged nervously.

Illan growled right outside Manny's bedroom door. "Open the damn door, Angelo!"

"I'm not going to just barge into my son's room. What if he and Frankie are──you know?"

Angelo argued.

"Angelo, they are not having s*x with my mate on the other side of that door," Justice argued.

"Got it," Ollie whispered.

Avery stepped forward. "Ollie, Pas, picture the trail in your mind and I'll get us out of here."

"You don't know that any more than I do. I may be accepting of Manny and Frankie being

mates, but I damn sure don't want to walk in on my son in the act. That is a visual I can go the rest

of my life without seeing," Angelo said in his snarkiest tone.

Manny blushed as he looked at Frankie and was surprised to see a heated look.

"Oh, for the love of──Get out of my way," Illan snapped then began banging on the door.

Manny looked at Avery. "Can we go?"

Nodding, Avery whispered, "Everyone take hands."

Just as the door burst open, Manny had seconds to see everyone's shocked faces as they

blinked out of the room.

"Avery, baby, where the hell are you? What are you doing?" Illan asked anxiously through

their link.

Avery ignored his mate as he looked around and found they were near a rundown cabin.

"Where the hell are we?" Frankie asked in confusion.

"I have no idea. It's where Ollie and Pascal directed us," Avery answered.

"Avery, you didn't use a portal, how the hell did we get here? I didn't know that a pixie could

teleport," Manny stated in awe.

"They can't, but my phoenix power can," Avery said with a laugh.

"You got teleportation as a gift? That is so f*****g cool. I can't wait to find out what my gift

will be," Manny said, sounding excited.

Avery looked at Frankie as he walked closer towards the cabin. "Seems to me, you're going

to find out sooner rather than later."

Manny's cheeks pinkened, and Avery laughed, only stopping when Justice's voice link came

to him, "Avery, please, we're really worried. Angelo is crying hysterically thinking his son has

been taken again."

Looking at Manny, Avery said, "I need to talk to my mates, Manny. I swear I won't tell them

where we are, but I need to let them know everyone is fine. Angelo is crying, scared that you've

been taken once more."

"Damn, I never considered that. Please, let them know we're fine, but Avery, they can't know

where we are. You know they'll make us go back to the house."

"I swear I won't tell them where, but I need to answer them," Avery replied, walking away.

Once Avery was far enough away, he took a deep breath and let it out slowly."Illan─Justice,

are you there?"

"Baby! Are you alright? What happened? Did Rune take you all as his prisoner? You tell

me where you are and I swear, Justice and I will find you," Illan insisted.

"Rune didn't take us, Illan. We are actually doing what we can to find Rune," Avery

replied with a calm he was not feeling. He wasn't afraid that they would hurt him when he

returned, he was afraid he had hurt them by leaving and not talking to them first. However, Manny

was right. They would never have allowed them to go had they known what the plan was.

"What the hell? Avery, get your asses back here this minute! I will not have my mate

running from place to place searching for a man that tried to kill you once already," Illan

snapped.

Avery sighed. "Illan, I am the one that attacked Rune. All he did was defend himself and

he could have killed me had he truly wanted to. Instead he left."

Illan growled, but Justice quickly jumped in. "Lover, come back to us and we will do

everything we can to find Rune. It isn't safe out there. You said yourself that Rune said Manny

was in danger. How smart is it for him to be out there unprotected?"

"Manny is not unprotected! He has me and Frankie watching over him, as well as Pascal

and Ollie," Avery said angrily. How dare his mates not think he couldn't take care of Manny after

what he did to Levi all those months ago. Had he not proven himself to them? Did they still think

of him as a child?

Illan quickly said, "Baby, we know you think you can handle anything, but the fairies and

elves are not the type you want to practice your magic on."

"Practice my magic? Practice my magic!"

"Now, Avery, calm down, I didn't mean it like that," Illan rapidly replied.

Grinding his teeth, Avery said, "We can talk about that remark when I return. For now, I

am helping my best friend find answers that can help him. There is nothing you or Justice can

say to change my mind. We are doing this. Don't even think you can follow us, Illan. I am not

using portals to jump through. And even if I was, I am using that magic you say I practice to

cover any energy Destrain or Dain might have used to follow me."

"Avery!" Both Illan and Justice yelled out at once.

"Oh, and thank you for teaching me how to block our link when I need to. I will be using

that now. What did you tell me to do Illan? Oh, yes, think of it like hanging up a phone

Consider mine hung up," Avery snapped as he blocked out his mates yelling his name and went

towards the others, asking, "Anything?"

Shaking his head, Ollie replied, "No, he's already gone, but I caught another energy marker."

Looking around, Avery saw Pas standing in front of the cabin, looking towards the run-down

structure. "Pas, are you alright?"

Pas stepped back and looked at the others. "I think we need to get out of here. I caught

another energy signature and it's even stronger than Rune's."

"What is it? Fairy? Elven?" Frankie asked pulling Manny close to his side protectively.

Shaking his head, Pas replied, "I don't think so. It's odd. Different. But it is not like any I

have felt before."

"Well then, let's get our asses out of here before whatever it is comes back," Avery replied

quickly.

Everyone grasped hands, Avery saying, "Think about Rune’s energy path, Ollie."

"I am," Ollie replied closing his eyes.

Avery blinked them out of there, and none of the men noticed the crimson eyes looking in

their direction from inside the cabin
